Greetings and blessings, beloved family.

Alleluia! God so loved the world! Today is Wednesday of the Second Week of Easter, a day that brings us to the very heart of the Good News. In the Gospel, we encounter the most famous summary of God’s plan for us: “God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son.” Jesus reveals that the mission of the Son is not one of condemnation, but of radical, life-giving salvation. We are invited to step out of the shadows of fear and into the Light of His truth. The First Reading shows us that no human prison can contain the Word of God. Even as the Sadducees, filled with jealousy, lock the Apostles away, an Angel of the Lord opens the doors at night, commanding them to tell the people everything about this life. We witness the Lord hearing the cry of the poor as the Apostles return to the temple area with boldness. We are joined today by Saint Paternus (Padarn), the missionary bishop; Saints Basilissa and Anastasia, the brave matrons of Rome; and Saint Hunna, the Holy Washerwoman who served the light through humble labor. Like the Apostles, let us bless the Lord at all times and taste and see how good He is. Amen. 🙏🏽

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Second Week of Easter | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Wednesday of the Second Week of Easter | April 15, 2026
Reading I: Acts 5:17–26
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 34:2–3, 4–5, 6–7, 8–9
Gospel: John 3:16–21

Gospel Reading ~ John 3:16–21

“God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.”

God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In the Gospel, we reach the pinnacle of Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus. Jesus defines the motivation for the entire Incarnation: Love. It is a love that gives everything—the Father giving the Son—so that we might have eternal life. This passage corrects the common misconception of a God who is waiting to strike us down. Instead, we see that the mission of Jesus is to save. Condemnation is not something God imposes on us; rather, it is something we choose when we prefer the darkness of our own ways over the radiant Light of His presence. This reflection calls us to examine our hearts: are we hiding in the night of our sins, or are we stepping into the light where our works can be seen as done in God?

Living the truth means being people of the light. Jesus explains that those who do wicked things avoid the light because they fear exposure. However, the Easter season is a call to total transparency before the Lord. When we come toward the light, we are not being exposed for shame, but for healing. The light of Christ does not just show us what is wrong; it transforms it. By believing in the name of the only-begotten Son, we move from the fear of perishing to the certainty of eternal life, allowing the light of the world to direct every thought and action.

The First Reading provides a dramatic demonstration of how the light cannot be contained. The Sadducees, driven by jealousy, try to shut the light away in a public jail. But the power of the Resurrection is greater than any lock or guard. The Angel of the Lord releases the Apostles with a simple yet profound instruction: “Tell the people everything about this life.” This life is the new existence in the Risen Christ. The fact that the Apostles returned to the temple to teach, even after being imprisoned, shows that they were no longer afraid of being exposed. They were living the truth, and their boldness left the high priests and court officers at a loss.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 34) serves as the anthem for the delivered Apostles: “The Lord hears the cry of the poor.” It reminds us that the Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him. When the poor one calls out in distress, God does not just listen, He delivers. The Psalm invites us to look to him that you may be radiant with joy. This radiance is the outward sign of someone who has chosen the light of Christ over the darkness of fear.

As we continue through this Wednesday, let us reflect on the prisons in our own lives, the habits, fears, or jealousies that keep us from the temple area of God’s will. Reflect today: Are you holding onto a darkness because you are afraid of what the light will reveal? This is the day to taste and see how good the Lord is. Trust that God did not send His Son to condemn your past, but to save your future and bring you into the fullness of His Light.

Let us pray: O God, who for the salvation of the world brought about the paschal sacrifice, be favorable to the supplications of Your people, so that Christ our High Priest, interceding on our behalf, may by His likeness to us bring us reconciliation, and by His equality with You free us from our sins. Grant us the boldness of the Apostles to speak of “this life,” and the courage of Nicodemus to step fully into the light. May we always believe in Your only-begotten Son and find our joy in the eternal life He offers. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT PATERNUS (PADARN), BISHOP OF AVRANCHES: Saint Paternus (d. 565) was a son of encouragement and an exemplar of divine love who carried the light of the Gospel across Wales and Brittany. Like the Apostles who went to the temple area to teach, Paternus was unyielding in his mission, tearing down pagan temples to build the Kingdom of God. He reminds us that “the wind of the Spirit” blows where it wills, often calling us to remote places, just as it called Paternus to a life of austerity and prayer to become a radiant joy for those still living in darkness.

PRAYER: God, You made Saint Paternus an outstanding exemplar of Divine love and the Faith that conquers the world. Grant by his intercession that we may persevere in Faith and love, and like him, become sharers of Your glory. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINTS BASILISSA AND ANASTASIA, MARTYRS: These noble Roman matrons (d. 68 AD) were early disciples of Saints Peter and Paul. When the nations raged under Nero, they did not prefer darkness; instead, they risked their lives to give honorable burials to the martyred Apostles and other Christians. Their works were clearly seen as done in God, leading to their own arrest and brutal martyrdom. They remind us that the Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and though their bodies were broken, they attained the eternal life promised to all who believe.

PRAYER: Lord, hear our prayers on the commemoration of Saints Basilissa and Anastasia. May we be inspired by their humility and sacrifices, and through their intercession, may we faithfully serve You in the light of Truth all the days of our lives. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT HUNNA, THE HOLY WASHERWOMAN: Saint Hunna (d. 679) was a noblewoman who understood that God so loved the world by serving its lowliest members. Known as the Holy Washerwoman, she stepped into the light by performing menial tasks for the poor, washing their clothes and mending their rags to the point of exhaustion. She shows us that living the truth means serving with an exultation and sincerity of heart. Her life proves that no task is too small when done in the name of the Son of Man who was lifted up for us all.

PRAYER: Lord God, You showered heavenly gifts and humility on Saint Hunna. Help us to imitate her virtues during our earthly life, serving the poor with joy, so that we may one day enjoy eternal happiness with her in heaven. Amen. 🙏🏽

Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Paternus, Saints Basilissa and Anastasia, and Saint Hunna — pray for us. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS AND THE HUMBLE

As we celebrate the Love that saves the world, let us bring our cries to the Lord who hears the poor. Lord, we pray for pastors, missionaries, and those seeking religious perfection; through the intercession of Saint Paternus (Founding Saint of Brittany), grant them the faith that conquers the world and the grace to persevere in love. We pray for persecuted Christians and those who care for the relics of the martyrs; through the prayers of Saints Basilissa and Anastasia (Patron Saints of tailors), give them the courage to confess Your name even in the face of death. Finally, we pray for laundresses, those who perform menial labor, and the poor; through the merits of Saint Hunna (Patron Saint of laundresses), may their work be seen as done in God and may they always taste and see how good You are. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF APRIL | MONTH OF HOLY EUCHARIST: April is dedicated to the Holy Eucharist, the greatest gift of Christ to His Church. In the Eucharist, Jesus is truly present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity offering Himself as the Bread of Life. This month invites us to deepen our love and reverence for the Eucharist, especially during Holy Week and Easter, celebrating the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord. The Eucharist was instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper when He said, “Take and eat; this is My Body… Drink from it, all of you, for this is My Blood of the Covenant” (Matthew 26:26-28). In receiving the Eucharist, we are united with Christ and His Church. It is the source of our strength and the culmination of our salvation, as Christ Himself said in John 6:51, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever.” As we journey through Lent, we are called to renew our reverence for the Eucharist. During Holy Week, we remember that Christ instituted this sacrament on Holy Thursday, offering us a way to remain in union with Him. Let us take this opportunity to attend Mass regularly, spend time in Eucharistic adoration, and reflect on the mystery of Christ’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament.

In this season of penance and reflection, may our devotion to the Eucharist strengthen our commitment to living as true disciples of Christ, leading us to the joy of Easter and the Resurrection.

O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine! Lord Jesus, You have given Yourself to us in the Eucharist. May we receive You with reverence and love, and let Your grace transform us always. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust the remainder of April to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽

Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Paternus, Saints Basilissa and Anastasia, and Saint Hunna ~ Pray for us 🙏🏾

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you! Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us. Amen 🙏🏽
