Greetings and blessings, beloved family.

Alleluia! My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord; I know them, and they follow me. With hearts full of gratitude, we enter this seventh day of May, welcoming the light of a new day and committing our work, studies, and prayers to the Lord. Today, the Church celebrates two remarkable women who prove that remaining in Christ bears fruit that changes nations: Saint Rosa Venerini, the courageous educator who sought to educate to save, and Blessed Gisele, the first Queen of Hungary, whose quiet devotion helped convert an entire kingdom. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of the profound mystery of His love. He invites us to move beyond simply being branches to being intimate friends who abide in His love by keeping His commandments. He reveals His ultimate desire for us: that His joy might be in us and that our joy might be complete. This joy is what fueled the early Church in our First Reading, as the Council of Jerusalem chose the path of grace over the yoke of the law, opening the doors of faith even wider to all nations. As we journey through this reflection, let us ask for the grace to hear the Master’s voice and follow Him with the same dedication shown by Saint Rosa and Blessed Gisele. May their intercession help us to proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all we meet. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching and joy-filled day. Amen. 🙏🏽

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Fifth Week of Easter | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Thursday of the Fifth Week of Easter | May 7, 2026
Reading I: Acts 15:7–21
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 96:1–2a, 2b–3, 10
Gospel: John 15:9–11

Gospel Reading ~ John 15:9–11

“As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love.”

Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. “I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In the Gospel, Jesus deepens the imagery of the Vine by revealing the sap that flows through the branches: it is the very Love of the Father. He invites us into the same intimate relationship He shares with the Father, commanding us to “remain in my love.” This remaining is not a passive sentiment but an active obedience. By keeping His commandments, we do not earn His love, but we abide in it, just as Jesus’ perfect obedience to the Father keeps Him centered in the Father’s love. This reflection focuses on the ultimate purpose of this union: Complete Joy. Jesus clarifies that His instructions are not meant to burden us, but to fill us with a joy that the world cannot give a joy that remains steady even in the midst of trials.

This passage reminds us that the Christian life is a participation in the Trinitarian life. The love that exists between the Father and the Son is the same love extended to us. When we observe the commandments, we are essentially imitating Christ’s own life of surrender and devotion. This complete joy Jesus promises is the fruit of a life lived in harmony with God’s will. It is a reminder that holiness and happiness are not at odds; rather, our hearts find their greatest fulfillment when they are fully submerged in the love of Christ, allowing His joy to become our own.

The First Reading brings this theology into the practical life of the Church at the Council of Jerusalem. Peter stands up to remind the assembly that God bore witness to the Gentiles by granting them the Holy Spirit, making no distinction between us and them. He warns against placing a yoke on the new disciples that no one could bear, asserting that salvation comes through the grace of the Lord Jesus. James concludes the debate by seeking a path of unity that respects God’s new song while maintaining communal holiness. This teaches us that remaining in God’s love requires the Church to be a place of welcome, where the focus is on a heart purified by faith rather than external rituals.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 96) invites us to “Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations.” It is a call to sing a new song because the Lord is King and governs with equity. This mirrors the excitement of the early Church as they realized that the “fallen hut of David” was being rebuilt to include all of humanity. When we announce His salvation day after day, we are sharing the complete joy that Jesus promises in the Gospel, making known to all peoples that the world is firm and secure under His reign.

As we go through this Thursday, let us examine the yokes we carry. Reflect today: Are you trying to live your faith as a set of heavy rules, or as a response to being loved by the Father? Is your joy complete, or is it leaking away because you have wandered from the Vine? How can you participate in “rebuilding the hut of David” by welcoming others into the love of Christ? Trust that the commandments of Jesus are the guardrails that keep you safe in the ocean of His mercy.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, we thank You for loving us with the same love the Father has for You. Forgive us for the times we have sought joy in the things of this world instead of remaining in Your love. Help us to keep Your commandments with a cheerful heart, knowing they are the path to our fulfillment. Grant Your Church the wisdom to remove unnecessary burdens from those seeking You, so that all nations may sing a new song to Your name. May Your joy be in us, and may it be complete. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

Direct link to the detailed history of Saint Rosa Venerini, and Blessed Gisele | https://dailyreflectionswithphilomena.com/saints-of-the-day-feast-day-may-7th/

SAINT ROSA VENERINI, RELIGIOUS: Saint Rosa (1656–1728) was a pioneering Italian educator who consumed her life with two passions: a love for God and the salvation of souls. After navigating the personal loss of her parents and brother, she began gathering local women to pray the Rosary, only to discover a profound need for their spiritual and intellectual formation. In 1685, she opened Italy’s first public school for girls, an unconventional model that eventually won the praise of Pope Clement XI, who remarked, “With these schools you will sanctify Rome.” A woman of both contemplative prayer and tireless action, she founded over forty schools dedicated to the authentic emancipation of young women, proving that education is a vital path to salvation.

PRAYER: O God, who raised up Saint Rosa Venerini in Your Church to show others the way of salvation, grant us, by her example, so to follow Christ the Master, that we may come with our neighbor into Your presence. Amen. 🙏🏽

BLESSED GISELE, WIDOW: Blessed Gisele (c. 985–1065), the sister of Holy Roman Emperor Henry II, was the first Queen Consort of Hungary and the wife of Saint Stephen of Hungary. She was a cornerstone of the faith in her nation, raising her son, Saint Emeric, in holiness and providing indispensable support to her husband’s mission to evangelize the Hungarian people. Following the death of her husband and the political upheaval that followed, she retired to the Benedictine Abbey of Niederburg, where she served as Abbess and spent her final years in prayer and self-denial. Her life is a testament to the power of a woman’s influence in the conversion of nations and the stability of the domestic church.

PRAYER: God, You inspired Blessed Gisele to strive for perfect charity and so attain Your Kingdom at the end of her pilgrimage on earth. Strengthen us through her intercession that we may advance rejoicing in the way of love. Amen. 🙏🏽

Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Rosa Venerini, and Blessed Gisele — pray for us. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR TEACHERS, MOTHERS, WIDOWS AND THE COMPLETION OF JOY

On this day, as we meditate on the call to remain in Christ’s love so that our joy may be complete, we offer our petitions through the intercession of the holy women who educated and converted hearts. Lord, we pray for all teachers, catechists, and those dedicated to the formation of the young; through the intercession of Saint Rosa Venerini (Foundress of the Venerini Sisters and Patroness of educators), grant them the grace to be good examples to their students. We pray for all youths, that they may find in their education the path to spiritual elevation and true freedom in You. We pray for all mothers, widows, and women throughout the world; through the intercession of Blessed Gisele (First Queen of Hungary and Patroness of mothers and widows), grant them health, safety, and well-being. May those who have lost spouses or children find comfort in Your love, and may those who labor for the conversion of their families be strengthened by Your Spirit. Finally, we pray for the poor, the needy, and the dying; through the intercession of these holy women, grant divine healing to those suffering from cancer and terminal diseases. We pray for our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, for the conversion of sinners, and for the repose of the souls of our beloved family members who have recently passed away. May Your joy be in us, and may it be complete. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR PEACE | https://dailyreflectionswithphilomena.com/a-prayer-for-peace/

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF MAY: That Everyone Might Have Food. Pope Leo invites us to pray that no one might lack the food they need and that we might learn to live more responsibly, recognizing that the earth’s resources are a gift for everyone.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF MAY | MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our spiritual Mother. This month invites the faithful to draw closer to Mary through prayer, reflection, and imitation of her virtues especially her humility, obedience, purity, and unwavering faith. As the first and most perfect disciple of Christ, Mary leads us gently but firmly to her Son. Throughout Church history, May has been a time to honor Mary with special devotions such as the Rosary, May Crownings, Marian processions, and prayers like the Litany of Loreto. The Church teaches that Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, intercedes for us as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church. During this month, we are called to renew our relationship with her and seek her maternal care in our joys, sorrows, and needs. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan with total trust: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her faithful surrender encourages us to say “yes” to God’s will in our own lives. As we meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and contemplate her role in salvation history, we grow in our love for her and our desire to follow Christ more closely.

In this beautiful month of blooming flowers, may our hearts also blossom with deeper devotion to the Mother of our Savior. Let us bring her our prayers, our homes, and our lives, asking her to accompany us with her love and protection.

“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

Hail Mary, full of grace! Teach us to love Jesus as you loved Him. Cover us with your mantle of mercy, and help us to walk always in the light of your Son. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this month of May to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this new month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽

Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Rosa Venerini, and Blessed Gisele ~ Pray for us 🙏🏾

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you! Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us. Amen 🙏🏽
