Greetings and blessings, beloved family.
Alleluia! If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, says the Lord. Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this second day of May to His loving providence. Today, we celebrate the Memorial of Saint Athanasius of Alexandria, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, and Saint Antoninus, Bishop. Known as the Father of Orthodoxy, Saint Athanasius is a premier champion of the Faith and the Patron Saint of Theologians and a powerful intercessor against heresy. He spent his life defending the divinity of Christ, teaching us that to truly know the Son is to know the Father. Today also marks the First Saturday of the month, a day traditionally dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, inviting us to offer prayers of reparation and to seek her motherly intercession for the world. In today’s Gospel, Jesus reveals the heart of our faith to Philip, declaring, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father”. He invites us into a life of profound confidence, promising that whatever we ask in His name, He will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. In the First Reading, we witness the “greater works” Jesus promised as Paul and Barnabas boldly turn to the Gentiles, becoming a light and an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth. As we journey onward, we also honor Saint Antoninus, the Archbishop of Charity, who sold his own possessions to help the hungry and destitute during times of plague and famine. May the intercession of these holy bishops help us to seek God in every moment, seeking the truth and serving the poor with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching and grace-filled day in the light of the Risen Christ. Amen. 🙏🏽
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Fourth Week of Easter | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Saturday of the Fourth Week of Easter | May 2, 2026
Reading I: Acts 13:44–52
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 98:1, 2–3ab, 3cd–4
Gospel: John 14:7–14
Gospel Reading ~ John 14:7–14
“Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”
Jesus said to his disciples: “If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to Jesus, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Jesus invites us into the heart of the mystery of the Trinity. Philip’s plea, “Show us the Father,” represents the deepest longing of every human soul to see God face-to-face. Jesus’ response is both a gentle correction and a stunning revelation: to know Jesus is to know the Father. This reflection centers on the unity of the Son and the Father. Jesus does not just talk about God; His very life, His words, and His works are the visible presence of the invisible Father. When we look at the mercy, healing, and truth of Jesus, we are looking directly into the Father’s heart. He assures us that He is “in the Father and the Father is in me.”
Furthermore, Jesus gives us an incredible promise: those who believe in Him will do the works He does, and even greater ones. This is possible because He goes to the Father and sends the Holy Spirit, empowering us to be His hands and feet in the world. He grants us the authority to “ask in my name,” promising that He will act so that the Father may be glorified. This is a call to unshakeable confidence in prayer. We are not begging a distant deity; we are speaking to a Father who is perfectly revealed in the Son.
The First Reading illustrates this greater work in action through Paul and Barnabas. In Antioch, almost the whole city gathered to hear the Word of God. However, this success sparked jealousy and persecution. This passage highlights the universality of the Gospel. When some rejected the Word, the Apostles turned to the Gentiles, fulfilling the prophecy: “I have made you a light to the Gentiles.” Despite being expelled from the territory, the disciples were not defeated. They “shook the dust from their feet” and remained “filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.” It teaches us that the spread of the Truth cannot be stopped by human opposition rather, the Word continues to spread to the ends of the earth.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 98) breaks into a new song of victory: “All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.” It celebrates God’s holy arm and right hand which have won the victory. Just as the Gentiles in Acts delighted in the Word, the Psalm calls all lands to break into song and sing praise. It reminds us that God has remembered His kindness and faithfulness, making His salvation known in the sight of every nation.
As we go through this Saturday, let us reflect on our vision of God. Reflect today: Are you still searching for a distant God, or have you recognized the Father’s face in Jesus? Are you discouraged by opposition in your mission, or are you shaking off the dust and remaining filled with the joy of the Spirit? This is the day to ask in His name for the needs of the world. Trust that the Father who dwells in Jesus is doing His works through you.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, we thank You for revealing the Father to us and for inviting us into Your divine life. Forgive us for our spiritual blindness and for the times we have doubted Your presence in our lives. Grant us the boldness of Paul and Barnabas to proclaim Your Word even in the face of rejection. Help us to believe in Your promise that whatever we ask in Your name, You will do. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit today, that we may be instruments of Your salvation and joy to everyone we meet. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT ATHANASIUS OF ALEXANDRIA, BISHOP AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH: Saint Athanasius (296–373 AD), often called the “Father of Orthodoxy,” was the towering champion of the Faith against the Arian heresy. As a young deacon, he assisted at the Council of Nicaea, helping to formulate the Nicene Creed that we still profess today. During his forty-six years as Bishop of Alexandria, he stood almost single-handedly against those who denied the divinity of Christ, enduring seventeen years of exile for his refusal to compromise the Truth. He teaches us that progress in the spiritual life is fueled by spiritual reading and an unshakeable dedication to the identity of Jesus as the true Son of God.
PRAYER: Almighty ever-living God, who raised up the Bishop Saint Athanasius as an outstanding champion of your Son’s divinity, mercifully grant, that rejoicing in his teaching and his protection, we may never cease to grow in knowledge and love of you. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT ANTONINUS OF FLORENCE, BISHOP: Saint Antoninus (1389–1459) was a Dominican friar whose small stature belied a veritable dynamo of spiritual and intellectual energy. Known for his incredible memory, having memorized the entire book of Church law as a teenager, he rose to become the Archbishop of Florence while continuing to live as a simple, humble friar. During times of plague, famine, and earthquake, he sold everything he owned to feed the destitute and house the victims, earning the profound love of his people. A pioneer in moral theology, he proves that the greater works Jesus promised are accomplished through a heart that is entirely devoted to the common good.
PRAYER: Lord, through the intercession of Saint Antoninus, grant us the grace to serve You with a gentle spirit and a tireless heart. May we, like him, be reformers of our own lives and instruments of Your peace and provision for those in need. Amen. 🙏🏽
Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Athanasius, and Saint Antoninus — pray for us. 🙏🏽
PRAYER INTENTION: FOR THE DEFENSE OF TRUTH, THE SICK, AND THE POOR
As we continue our Easter journey, let us offer our petitions through the intercession of the great bishops who stood as pillars of the Faith and charity. Lord, we pray for the Church and for all who defend the Truth; through the intercession of Saint Athanasius (Patron Saint of Theologians and against heretics), grant our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, the Bishops, and the Clergy the courage to remain unshakeable in the divinity of Christ. We pray for persecuted Christians and for the conversion of sinners, that like the Gentiles of Antioch, all nations may glorify the Word of the Lord. We pray for the sick and those suffering in body or mind; through the intercession of Saint Antoninus (Patron Saint of those with a fever), grant divine healing to those suffering from cancer, terminal diseases, and life-threatening illnesses. May the Lord, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, provide comfort to their hearts and deliverance from all impossible situations. Finally, we pray for the poor, the marginalized, and for peace in our conflicted world; through the intercession of Saint Antoninus (pioneer in moral theology and social justice), inspire us to be dynamos of charity who work for the common good. We pray for the souls in Purgatory, the repose of our recently departed family members, and for all widows and widowers. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF MAY: That Everyone Might Have Food. Pope Leo invites us to pray that no one might lack the food they need and that we might learn to live more responsibly, recognizing that the earth’s resources are a gift for everyone.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF MAY | MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our spiritual Mother. This month invites the faithful to draw closer to Mary through prayer, reflection, and imitation of her virtues especially her humility, obedience, purity, and unwavering faith. As the first and most perfect disciple of Christ, Mary leads us gently but firmly to her Son. Throughout Church history, May has been a time to honor Mary with special devotions such as the Rosary, May Crownings, Marian processions, and prayers like the Litany of Loreto. The Church teaches that Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, intercedes for us as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church. During this month, we are called to renew our relationship with her and seek her maternal care in our joys, sorrows, and needs. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan with total trust: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her faithful surrender encourages us to say “yes” to God’s will in our own lives. As we meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and contemplate her role in salvation history, we grow in our love for her and our desire to follow Christ more closely.
In this beautiful month of blooming flowers, may our hearts also blossom with deeper devotion to the Mother of our Savior. Let us bring her our prayers, our homes, and our lives, asking her to accompany us with her love and protection.
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
Hail Mary, full of grace! Teach us to love Jesus as you loved Him. Cover us with your mantle of mercy, and help us to walk always in the light of your Son. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this month of May to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this new month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽
