Greetings and blessings, beloved family.
Alleluia! The Holy Spirit will teach you everything and remind you of all I told you, says the Lord. Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this fourth day of May to His loving providence. Today, we celebrate the Memorial of Saint Florian, Martyr, a brave commander and firefighter who stood firm in his faith, and the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, whose steadfastness during times of religious upheaval serves as a powerful witness to the Truth. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of the intimate bond between love and obedience, promising that those who keep His word will become a dwelling place for the Father and the Son. He assures us that we are not left alone, for the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, is sent to teach and remind us of all He has taught. This divine presence is vividly seen in the First Reading, as Paul and Barnabas continue their mission with courage, performing miracles through the power of God while humbly ensuring that all glory is returned to the Creator, the maker of heaven and earth. As we journey onward, let us be inspired by the living witness of our martyrs, who reminds us that our true strength comes from being anchored in Christ. May the intercession of Saint Florian and the Holy Martyrs strengthen our resolve to be faithful witnesses in our own daily lives, reflecting the light of the Risen Christ to all we meet. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching and grace-filled day. Amen. 🙏🏽
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Fifth Week of Easter | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Monday of the Fifth Week of Easter | May 4, 2026
Reading I: Acts 14:5–18
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 115:1–2, 3–4, 15–16
Gospel: John 14:21–26
Gospel Reading ~ John 14:21–26
“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name—he will teach you everything.”
Jesus said to his disciples: “Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.” Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him, “Master, then what happened that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me. “I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Jesus defines the true nature of love as obedience to His word. He explains that intimacy with God is not reserved for a distant future but begins now through the indwelling of the Trinity. When Judas (not the Iscariot) asks why Jesus reveals Himself only to the disciples and not to the world, Jesus clarifies that spiritual revelation is tied to the disposition of the heart. The world cannot see Him because it does not observe His commandments, but for the believer, the Father and the Son “make our dwelling with him.” This reflection centers on the Gift of the Advocate. Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will be our teacher and our memory, ensuring that the Truth remains alive in our hearts long after His physical departure.
The First Reading provides a striking example of the danger of misdirecting the glory that belongs to God. In Lystra, Paul and Barnabas perform a greater work by healing a man lame from birth. However, the crowd misinterprets this miracle, attempting to worship the Apostles as the gods “Zeus” and “Hermes.” The Apostles’ reaction is immediate and humble, they tear their garments and redirect the crowd’s focus from idols to the living God. This passage highlights our role as witnesses, not the source. Paul reminds the people that God has always left a witness of His goodness through the rains from heaven and fruitful seasons. It teaches us that even when God works through us, the glory must always return to the Creator.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 115) echoes this sentiment perfectly: “Not to us, O Lord, but to your name give the glory.” It contrasts the living God, who does whatever He wills in heaven, with the idols of silver and gold made by human hands. As we receive blessings and perform our daily labors, the Psalm serves as a guard against pride, reminding us that all mercy and truth flow from God’s name, not our own merit.
As we go through this Monday, let us reflect on our own dwellings. Reflect today: Is your heart a place where the Father and Son find a home through your obedience? When you succeed or help others, do you seek the sacrifice of praise for yourself, or do you quickly redirect the glory to God? Are you listening to the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, as He reminds you of everything Jesus taught? Trust that the same God who gives rain and fruitful seasons is also providing the spiritual nourishment your heart needs today.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, we thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit who teaches us and reminds us of Your love. Forgive us for the times we have sought the glory that belongs only to You or turned toward the idols of this world. Help us to observe Your commandments out of genuine love, so that You and the Father may truly make Your dwelling within us. Grant us the humility of Paul and Barnabas to always point others toward the living God, the maker of heaven and earth. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT FLORIAN, MARTYR: St. Florian (c. 250–304 AD) was a high-ranking Roman administrative officer and commander of a firefighting brigade in present-day Austria. A secret Christian during the fierce persecutions of Emperor Diocletian, he was legendary for his courage and faith, reportedly saving an entire town from destruction by extinguishing a massive fire with a single bucket of water. When he refused to offer sacrifices to Roman gods or participate in the persecution of fellow believers, he was sentenced to death. He bravely told his executioners he would “climb to Heaven on the flames” if they burned him; intimidated by his resolve, they instead flogged him and threw him into the Enns River with a stone around his neck. He is the Patron Saint of firefighters, brewers, chimney sweeps, soap boilers, and victims of drowning, and is invoked against danger from fire or water.
PRAYER: God of power and mercy, through Your help St. Florian has overcome the tortures of his passion. Help us who celebrate his triumph to remain victorious over the wiles of our enemies. Amen. 🙏🏽
THE FORTY MARTYRS OF ENGLAND AND WALES: This group of forty men and women—comprising laity, secular clergy, and religious—represents the hundreds who were executed between 1535 and 1679 for their Catholic faith during the English Reformation. These martyrs, including prominent figures like St. Edmund Campion and St. Margaret Clitherow, were often subjected to show trials and executed for “treason” simply for refusing to accept the monarch as head of the Church or for being priests. They were canonized together by Pope Paul VI in 1970 after a miracle involving the cure of a young mother from a malignant tumor. They stand as a witness to courage and constancy, reminding us that no earthly power can rightfully command the soul against the Truth.
PRAYER: Merciful God, who didst raise up men and women in England who witnessed to their faith with courage and constancy: give unto thy Church that peace which is thy will, and grant that those who have been divided on earth may be reconciled in heaven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Florian, and the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales — pray for us. 🙏🏽
PRAYER INTENTION: FOR FIREFIGHTERS, THE PERSECUTED, AND THOSE IN PERIL
On this day, we offer our petitions through the intercession of those who faced the fire and the sword for the sake of the Gospel. Lord, we pray for all those who risk their lives to protect others; through the intercession of Saint Florian (Patron Saint of firefighters and protector from fire and floods), grant all firefighters, rescue workers, and those in life-threatening situations safety, dignity, and strength. May You watch over them in the performance of their dangerous duties and bring them home safely to their families. We pray for all who suffer for their faith and for the sick; through the intercession of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales (patron saints of those facing persecution for their faith), grant courage to persecuted Christians and divine healing to those suffering from cancer and terminal diseases. We pray specifically for pharmacists and medical professionals, that they may serve with the wisdom of the Spirit. May those in impossible situations find deliverance through Your mercy. Finally, we pray for the Church, the Clergy, and for peace in our conflicted world; through the intercession of the Holy Martyrs, inspire us to witness to the Truth with constancy. We pray for the conversion of sinners, the repose of the souls in Purgatory, and for the gentle souls of our beloved family members who have recently passed away. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF MAY: That Everyone Might Have Food. Pope Leo invites us to pray that no one might lack the food they need and that we might learn to live more responsibly, recognizing that the earth’s resources are a gift for everyone.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF MAY | MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our spiritual Mother. This month invites the faithful to draw closer to Mary through prayer, reflection, and imitation of her virtues especially her humility, obedience, purity, and unwavering faith. As the first and most perfect disciple of Christ, Mary leads us gently but firmly to her Son. Throughout Church history, May has been a time to honor Mary with special devotions such as the Rosary, May Crownings, Marian processions, and prayers like the Litany of Loreto. The Church teaches that Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, intercedes for us as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church. During this month, we are called to renew our relationship with her and seek her maternal care in our joys, sorrows, and needs. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan with total trust: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her faithful surrender encourages us to say “yes” to God’s will in our own lives. As we meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and contemplate her role in salvation history, we grow in our love for her and our desire to follow Christ more closely.
In this beautiful month of blooming flowers, may our hearts also blossom with deeper devotion to the Mother of our Savior. Let us bring her our prayers, our homes, and our lives, asking her to accompany us with her love and protection.
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
Hail Mary, full of grace! Teach us to love Jesus as you loved Him. Cover us with your mantle of mercy, and help us to walk always in the light of your Son. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this month of May to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this new month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽
