Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
“Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” Alleluia! Welcome to this beautiful Tuesday! Today, the Church pairs the outward call of Scripture with the profound fidelity of Saint Ephrem, Saints Primus and Felician, Saint Columba of Iona, and Blessed Anna Maria Taigi. These holy witnesses rejected worldly vanities to find their security in God alone. Whether it was Saint Ephrem using his poetic gifts to preserve orthodoxy, the aging brothers Primus and Felician comforting the imprisoned, Saint Columba building an apostolic light on Iona, or Blessed Anna Maria Taigi transforming her humble home into a sanctuary of prayer, they lived as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. In today’s Gospel (Matthew 5:13–16), Jesus declares that His followers must be the preserving salt and visible light of a decaying culture. He warns that if salt loses its flavor, it becomes spiritually useless, and commands us never to hide our faith beneath a bushel basket of fear. Instead, Christ places us on a public lampstand, calling us to let our tangible good deeds shine so clearly that others are moved to give all glory to our heavenly Father. The First Reading (1 Kings 17:7–16) illustrates this radical trust when our personal resources run dry. As the brook dries up, God commands Elijah to rely on a destitute widow. Facing starvation, this vulnerable woman overcomes her paralyzing fear and obeys the prophet, baking him a small cake first from her final handful of flour and oil. Her sacrificial priority triggers a supernatural multiplication where her jar never goes empty, matching the deep peace we cry out for in today’s Responsorial Psalm: “Lord, let your face shine on us.”
As you move through this day, has your life lost its distinctive Christian flavor by blending too smoothly into a transactional world? When your personal brooks run dry and scarcity threatens your peace, do you react in worry, or do you have the courage to trust God’s providence and let your light shine?
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Tenth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Tuesday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time | June 9, 2026
Reading I: 1 Kings 17:7–16
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 4:2–3, 4–5, 7b–8
Gospel: Matthew 5:13–16
Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 5:13–16
“Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”
Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Christ exposes the essential, outward responsibility of Christian identity, presenting The Essential Preservation of Flavor and the Radical Visibility of Grace. Having just outlined the interior virtues of the Kingdom, Jesus shifts immediately to how these tracking realities must touch a decaying culture. He defines His followers through two powerful metaphors: salt and light. As salt, the disciple must preserve society from moral decay and bring out the distinct flavor of the Gospel; to lose this distinctive edge is to become spiritually useless, fit only to be discarded. As light, the church cannot exist in comfortable isolation or hide beneath the protective basket of fear. Christ places His people on a public lampstand like a radiant city on a mountain ridge. The purpose of this visibility is not self-exaltation, but a clear cosmic signpost: human beings must see your tangible good deeds and be moved to give all glory to your heavenly Father.
The First Reading manifests this preservation and visibility in the extreme testing of two vulnerable believers, establishing The Dryness of the Brook and the Sacrificial Priority of Faith. When the Wadi Cherith runs completely dry due to the intense regional drought, the Lord commands Elijah to push past his comfort zone into pagan territory—Zarephath of Sidon—revealing that a destitute widow has been designated to sustain him. Arriving at the city gates, he encounters a woman gathering sticks to prepare a final, desperate meal for herself and her son before facing starvation. Elijah intercepts her despair with a shocking demand: to overcome her fear and bake him a small cake first, using her last handful of flour and remaining drops of oil. Her radical obedience unlocks a massive supernatural ecosystem. By prioritizing the word of the Lord over her immediate survival instincts, she triggers an unyielding multiplication where the jar of flour never goes empty and the jug of oil never runs dry.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 4) echoes this deep internal security that persists even when external material resources vanish, singing: “Lord, let your face shine on us.” It serves as a powerful rebuke to men of rank who chase after empty vanities and seek falsehood, calling them to reflect in absolute silence upon their beds. The psalmist reminds us that true gladness is a supernatural gift poured into the heart directly from the light of the divine countenance a spiritual joy that far outweighs the fleeting moments when worldly grain and wine abound.
As we move through the challenges of this day, let us examine if our lives are offering light or merely blending into the shadows. Reflect today: Has your life lost its distinctive Christian flavor by blending too smoothly into the values of a transactional world, or are you acting as a preserving salt in your environment? When your personal “brooks run dry” and your material resources look like a final handful of flour, do you react in paralyzing fear, or do you have the courage to trust God with your first fruits? Are you hiding your spiritual gifts under a bushel basket of anxiety, or are you letting the light of your good deeds guide others to the Father?
Let us pray: Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Light of the world and the true Salt of the earth. Forgive us for the times we have allowed our faith to lose its flavor, or have hidden our witness out of human respect and fear of vulnerability. When the brooks of our lives run completely dry and our resources seem depleted, grant us the radical, unyielding faith of the widow of Zarephath to obey Your word first. Let the light of Your countenance shine so brightly upon us that it drives out all internal darkness and worry. Fill our hearts with a gladness that far surpasses any earthly abundance. Set our souls firmly upon Your holy lampstand this day, that every deed we perform and every word we speak may reflect Your grace and move a broken world to glorify Your heavenly Father. You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT EPHREM, DEACON AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH: Saint Ephrem of Syria (c. 306–373 A.D.), affectionately known as the “Harp of the Holy Spirit,” was a brilliant Mesopotamian deacon, monk, scripture commentator, and a classic Doctor of the Syrian Church. Banished from his home as a youth by his pagan priest father due to his Christian sympathies, Ephrem found a secure refuge under Bishop Saint James of Nisibis, who guided his education and baptized him at age eighteen. Embracing a highly austere hermitic lifestyle, he supported himself through manual labor before moving to Edessa, where he was ordained a deacon. To effectively combat rampant regional heresies, Ephrem masterfully hijacked the hymnic genre, writing profound theological poems and verses in Syriac to popularize Catholic orthodoxy and defend the Virgin Mary. Late in life, a providential pilgrimage to Saint Basil the Great resolved his interior spiritual anxieties. Before dying of a disease contracted while leaving his solitude to care for the sick during a famine, the holy deacon explicitly forbade any costly shrouds or funeral monuments, desiring only the humble place of a pilgrim on earth.
PRAYER: Lord, graciously infuse the Holy Spirit into our hearts. By His inspiration, Saint Ephrem the Deacon rejoiced in singing of Your mysteries and through His power he was enabled to serve You alone. Grant us his profound spirit of repentance, a deep love for Sacred Scripture, and the willingness to pour out our lives for the sick and needy around us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINTS PRIMUS AND FELICIAN, MARTYRS: Saints Primus and Felician (d. 286 A.D.) were wealthy Roman patrician brothers who grew old together in heroic virtue before gaining a glorious crown of martyrdom during the Diocletian persecution. Converted in their mature years through the pastoral zeal of Pope Felix I, the two noblemen dedicated their immense family fortune entirely to corporal works of mercy. They courageously frequented dark pagan dungeons day and night, comforting confessors of the faith, raising up those who had fallen, and wrapping the bodies of martyrs. When their remarkable zeal caused a public pagan outcry, the brothers were apprehended in their old age. Refusing to sacrifice to empty idols, the ninety-year-old Primus and his younger brother Felician were cruelly scourged, tortured separately, and sent to a brutal prefect who nailed Felician to a post for three days without food or water. Despite being beaten with clubs and burnt with torches, they were miraculously spared by wild beasts in the arena. After Primus was beheaded, the torturers lied to Felician that his brother had apostatized; recognizing the falsehood, Felician stood steadfast in grace and was executed that same day.
PRAYER: Almighty God, You granted the holy martyrs Saints Primus and Felician the supernatural fortitude to withstand inhuman torments and deceptive lies in their old age. Help our families to remain unshaken by the pressures and falsehoods of this world, and fill our hearts with a burning zeal to comfort the imprisoned, the sick, and the broken-hearted for Your sake. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT COLUMBA OF IONA, PRIEST AND ABBOT: Saint Columba (521–597 A.D.), also known as Columkille or the “Founder of Cells,” was a charismatic Irish nobleman, scripture scholar, and monastic builder who became the legendary Apostle of the Picts in Scotland. Formed at the famous school of Saint Finian of Clonard, Columba was ordained a priest and successfully established several monasteries across Ireland. When his unyielding preaching against public vices offended King Dermot, he chose a path of voluntary exile, sailing to Scotland with twelve faithful companions. Settling on the isolated island of Iona, he established a celebrated monastery that transformed into a massive school for apostolic missionaries and the final resting place for generations of saints and Scottish kings. Endowed with the gifts of prophecy, miracles, and an unfailing charity that won all hearts, Columba spent his final days weeping with joy to reach his true heavenly home. At age seventy-five, he calmly predicted his own rest from labor, knelt before the altar to receive the Viaticum, and peacefully slept in the Lord while blessing his community.
PRAYER: O God, who through the preaching and exemplary life of Saint Columba brought the light of the true Faith to distant lands, grant through his intercession that we may never grow morose in our good works. Protect our communities from devastating floods, bless all spiritual leaders, and bring us to rest safely at the foot of Your altar. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
BLESSED ANNA MARIA TAIGI, RELIGIOUS: Blessed Anna Maria Taigi (1769–1837 A.D.), born Anna Maria Giannetti, was a resilient Italian housewife, mother of seven, and Secular Trinitarian Tertiary who transformed her working-class home into a radiant sanctuary of mystical prayer. Born into poverty in Siena, she moved to Rome where she took low-skill jobs before marrying Domenico Taigi, a pious but exceptionally brash man with an impulsive temper. Following a sudden conversion at Saint Peter’s Basilica in 1790, Anna renounced worldly vanities and fancy dress with her husband’s consent, choosing a life of strict personal austerity while quietly distributing her spare funds to the poor. Amidst her heavy daily household chores, God elevated her into a profound mystic; for forty-seven years, she was granted a miraculous golden globe of light in which she clearly saw future events and the hidden state of souls. Frequently sought out by cardinals and luminaries for spiritual advice, she joyfully embraced deep physical sufferings and verbal abuse, refusing any special favors from wealthy benefactors to rely entirely on divine providence.
PRAYER: Father, rewarder of the humble, You blessed Your servant Anna Maria Taigi with outstanding charity and patience amidst the trials of domestic life. May her prayers help us, and her example inspire us, to carry our daily cross and remain faithful in loving You, and others for Your sake. Heal and restore all victims of verbal and spousal abuse, mend every fractured marriage, and grant absolute peace, love, and unity to our families. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw immense spiritual richness today from the poetic wisdom of Saint Ephrem, the unbroken courage of Saints Primus and Felician, the great missionary legacy of Saint Columba, and the humble, holy family life of Blessed Anna Maria Taigi, we also lift our hearts to the rest of the holy assembly sharing this June 9th feast day. Today, we prayerfully honor and remember SAINT BAITHIN, SAINT CUMMIAN, BLESSED DIANA, SAINT JOSE DE ANCHIETA, SAINT JULIAN, SAINT MAXIMIAN OF SYRACUSE, SAINT RICHARD OF ANDRIA, AND SAINT VINCENT OF AGEN. From early pioneering bishops and courageous local martyrs who stood firm in their witness to zealous missionaries who carried the Gospel to new lands, their collective lives beautifully reflect the multifaceted grace of God. Remembering them reminds us that we are part of an incredibly vast family of faith, encouraging us to live out our own unique call to holiness exactly where we are today.

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR SPIRITUAL RADIANCE, PROVIDENTIAL MULTIPLICATION, AND DOMESTIC HOLINESS
On this Tuesday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time, we cry out to You, O Lord, as our just God who relieves us when we are in distress. We pray that You graciously let the light of Your countenance shine upon our households, putting a supernatural gladness into our hearts that far outweighs any earthly abundance. Lord, deliver us from the fear of vulnerability and the temptation to hide our faith beneath a bushel basket of anxiety. Grant us the grace to live distinct, flavorful lives that preserve our environment from moral decay, letting the light of our daily good deeds shine so clearly before others that all who encounter us may be moved to glorify Your heavenly Father. When the brooks of our lives dry up and material scarcity threatens our peace, deliver us from paralyzing fear and grant us the radical faith of the widow of Zarephath to trust Your word and offer You our first fruits. Through the intercession of Saint Ephrem (Patron Saint of Spiritual directors and spiritual leaders) and Saints Primus and Felician (Invoked for the comfort of the imprisoned, the sick, and the broken-hearted), grant wisdom to those guiding souls in the Church, and pour out supernatural fortitude upon all Christians facing persecution, illness, or advanced age, keeping them entirely unshaken by the pressures and falsehoods of this world. Furthermore, we beg for Your divine protection over our lands through the prayers of Saint Columba of Iona (Patron Saint against floods, bookbinders, poets, Ireland, and Scotland), asking that You shield our communities from devastating waters and bless our apostolic works with a cheerful, untiring zeal. Finally, through the loving prayers of Blessed Anna Maria Taigi (Patron of Housewives, Mothers, Victims of verbal abuse, Victims of spousal abuse, Families, and Trinitarian tertiaries), we lift up all wives and mothers managing domestic burdens, begging for deep healing and reconciliation in fractured marriages, immediate comfort for victims of verbal and spousal abuse, and the transformation of our homes into peaceful sanctuaries of prayer. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JUNE | MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS: June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a powerful sign of Christ’s love and mercy. His Heart, pierced and crowned with thorns, burns with compassion for all humanity. This devotion calls us to return love for love to console His Heart and make reparation for sin and indifference. Rooted in the revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Church invites us this month to deepen our trust in Jesus, especially through First Friday devotions, the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and acts of consecration. His words echo in our hearts: “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29).
The Sacred Heart shows us what true love looks like patient, humble, and self-giving. In a world often cold and restless, we find peace and healing in His Heart.
“Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You”
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, teach us to love as You love. Fill our hearts with compassion, mercy, and a deep desire to follow You. Amen 🙏🏽

We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of June to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Resurrection, the Ascension, and the fresh fire of the Holy Spirit, which we have so beautifully celebrated, continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Most Holy Trinity shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
