Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
“A lamp to my feet is your word, a light to my path.” Alleluia! Welcome to a new week! Today, the Church lays down a radical challenge to our instinct for retaliation, beautifully mirrored in the lives of Saint Germaine Cousin and the young martyr Saint Vitus and his companions. These holy souls faced extreme injustice, child abuse, rejection, and imperial persecution, yet they chose to absorb the malice of their abusers, transforming their heavy crosses into profound humility and radical love. In today’s Gospel (Matthew 5:38–42), Jesus completely upends the world’s economy of payback. Moving beyond “an eye for an eye,” He commands His disciples to offer no resistance to an evildoer, to turn the other cheek, and to willingly walk the second mile. This supernatural standard stands in sharp contrast to the First Reading (1 Kings 21:1–16), where King Ahab and Queen Jezebel orchestrate a deceitful judicial murder to seize Naboth’s ancestral vineyard. As the innocent are crushed by greed, we cry out in today’s Responsorial Psalm: “Lord, listen to my groaning.”
When someone insults your dignity or treats you unfairly, is your first instinct to strike back, or do you have the Christlike grace to turn the other cheek? How can you go the extra mile today to conquer hatred with unexpected, sacrificial generosity?

Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Monday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time | June 15, 2026
Reading I: 1 Kings 21:1–16
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 5:2–3ab, 4b–6a, 6b–7
Gospel: Matthew 5:38–42
Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 5:38–42
“But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.”
Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Christ completely dismantles the fallen human economy of retaliation and self-defense, presenting The Non-Resistance of the Consecrated Soul and the Radical Defiance of Excess Generosity. Piercing directly into the ancient legal concession of lex talionis, which was originally designed to limit excessive vengeance by demanding an equal trade of an eye for an eye, Jesus establishes a supernatural standard for the citizens of His Kingdom. He commands His disciples to completely disarm their natural instincts for revenge when confronted by malice, introducing a revolutionary passivity that is actually a profound spiritual warfare. By illustrating the turning of the cheek, the total relinquishment of both tunic and cloak in a legal dispute, and the voluntary walking of a second grueling mile under compulsory military pressure, Christ demands a complete exhaustion of human pride. He reveals that the ultimate way to defeat evil is not by matching its violence, but by absorbing its malice and overwhelming it with an unyielding, unmerited generosity that refuses to turn its back on anyone in need.
The First Reading provides a terrifying, historical contrast to this selfless standard, exposing The Insatiable Greed of Secular Power and the Subversion of Justice through Deceitful Plots. The narrative centers on a dark conflict over an inheritance, where King Ahab of Samaria attempts to purchase or trade for the ancestral vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. Rooted in covenantal law, Naboth courageously refuses to alienate his ancestral heritage, driving the petulant monarch into an angry, fasting depression. This vulnerability triggers the demonic machinations of Queen Jezebel, who mocks Ahab’s weak exercise of sovereignty and orchestrates a calculated judicial murder. By hijacking the royal seal and manipulating local elders to proclaim a holy fast, she places two malicious scoundrels to falsely accuse Naboth of cursing both God and king. The tragic stoning of Naboth exposes the devastating heights of human duplicity, showing how easily the structures of religious piety and civil law can be weaponized by the bloodthirsty to satisfy worldly appetites, leading Ahab to immediately march down and seize ownership of the stolen land.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 5) functions as the desperate, liturgical cry of the oppressed rising up against this horrific injustice, singing: “Lord, listen to my groaning.” It captures the raw, expectant plea of a soul standing before the heavenly tribunal at the break of dawn, placing its cause before a God who takes absolute zero delight in wickedness. The text stands as a fierce warning to the Ahabs and Jezebels of the world, declaring that no evil or arrogant person can ever remain standing in the penetrating sight of the Almighty. It proclaims that the Lord harbors a divine hatred for evildoers, vowing to completely destroy those who speak destructive falsehoods while explicitly abhorring the bloodthirsty and the deceitful.
As we navigate the injustices, daily slights, and demands of our modern world, let us look at how we protect our rights. Reflect today: When you are personally insulted, cheated, or treated unfairly, is your immediate instinct to strike back with cutting words and legalistic defense, or do you have the supernatural grace to turn the other cheek? Are you currently hoarding your possessions and time, or are you willing to go the extra mile and give generously without calculating the cost? Are there hidden areas where you, like Ahab, are coveting something that belongs to another, or using manipulation to get your way?
Let us pray: Lord Jesus Christ, You are the meek and humble King who did not offer resistance when You were led like a lamb to the slaughter, absorbing the full weight of our sins upon the Cross. Forgive us for our deep-seated pride, our quick tempers, and our constant desire to vindicate ourselves in the eyes of others. Give us the courage of Naboth to stand firm in our spiritual heritage, yet grant us the radical love You demand in the Gospel to never repay evil with evil. When the world demands a mile, give us the grace to walk two; when others seek to take from us, free our hearts from the idol of material security so that we may give without cost. Listen to our groaning against the systemic injustices of our world, shield us from the deceit of the bloodthirsty, and let Your holy Word be the only lamp that guides our footsteps this day. You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT GERMAINE COUSIN, VIRGIN: Saint Germaine Cousin (1579–1601) was born in the remote French village of Pibrac to a humble peasant farmer, entering a world that would offer her little earthly comfort. Born with a deformed right hand and afflicted from infancy with scrofula—a painful disease causing swollen, weeping lesions around her neck—she faced immediate rejection from her stepmother, who viewed her conditions with intense disgust. Relegated to live in the cold family barn away from the household, Germaine was isolated from her stepbrothers and stepsisters and made a shepherdess, tasked with guarding the family flock in fields bordered by forests infested with wolves. She endured systemic childhood abuse, abandonment by her father, and false accusations of theft, yet she refused to let her heart become embittered. Instead, her interior life blossomed into a burning furnace of divine love; she spent her days praying the Rosary, assisting at daily Mass by fixing her distaff in the ground and trusting her flock entirely to Holy Providence, and gathering local children to teach them the rudiments of the faith. She routinely shared her dry crusts of food with the destitute, and when her furious stepmother once accused her of stealing bread from the house, Germaine opened her apron to reveal a miraculous cascade of fresh summer flowers out of season. Succumbing to the harsh effects of her poor living conditions at the young age of twenty-two, her life of quiet joy and profound patience was validated half a century later when her body was discovered completely incorrupt, triggering a legacy of spectacular miracles and her canonization by Pope Pius IX in 1867.
PRAYER: Lord God, You showered heavenly gifts on Saint Germaine the Virgin, enabling her to reflect the image of Your Suffering Servant amid intense isolation and cruelty. Help us to imitate her profound humility and patience during our earthly life and to enjoy eternal happiness with her in heaven. May Saint Germaine watch over all children who suffer from abuse, neglect, or disabilities; grant us the courage to speak out against injustice, and give us the grace to forgive our persecutors as she did, without sacrificing the safety of the vulnerable. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINTS VITUS, MODESTUS AND CRESCENTIA, MARTYRS: Saints Vitus, Modestus, and Crescentia (d. c. 303 A.D.) were courageous witnesses who stood unyielding against the full might of the Roman Empire during the fierce persecutions of Emperor Diocletian. Vitus, a boy born of noble lineage in Sicily around 290 A.D., was secretly instructed in the holy Christian faith and baptized under the careful tutelage of his pious nurse, Crescentia, and his tutor, Modestus. Blessed with a spectacular gift of miracles before reaching the age of twelve, Vitus was eventually denounced to the anti-Christian governor Valerian, who commanded Vitus’s pagan father, Hylas, to use his paternal authority to force the child to worship the imperial idols. When Vitus flatly refused to abandon Christ, declaring that he would gladly disobey his earthly rulers to remain loyal to his Sovereign Lord, Valerian ordered him to be brutally scourged; however, the arms of the executioners grew instantly limp and the governor’s own commanding hand withered, only to be mercifully healed by the gentle young saint. To escape his father’s murderous rage, an angel directed Modestus and Crescentia to flee with the boy to Italy, where they continued to cast out demons and perform wonders, eventually catching the attention of Diocletian himself. Despite Vitus freeing the emperor’s own son from demonic possession, the tyrant threw the three Christians into prison and subjected them to horrific tortures—including being thrown to a furious lion that merely lay down to lick Vitus’s feet, and being stretched upon execution racks. Their protecting angel ultimately released their spirits to eternal glory after they survived being boiled in oil, while a sudden, terrifying storm struck down the local pagan temples, prompting the conversion of many who witnessed their unshakeable fortitude.
PRAYER: We beseech Thee, O Lord, to graciously grant us through the intercession of Thy blessed Martyrs Vitus, Modestus, and Crescentia, that we may not proudly exalt ourselves, but serve Thee in humility and simplicity of heart, so as to avoid evil and do right for Thy sake. Grant us, O God, a due estimation of the value of our souls redeemed by the precious blood of Your Son, so that we may bear all earthly trials with holy fortitude, and give our youth Vitus as a secure guide to win the crown of justice. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE VULNERABLE, UNYIELDING FIDELITY, AND HUMILITY OF HEART
On this Monday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time, we turn our eyes to You, O Lord, the protector of the lowly and the vindicator of the oppressed. We lift up to You all victims of abuse, children suffering from neglect or disability, and those who bear the heavy, hidden crosses of illness and rejection. We ask for Your divine comfort for the sick and dying, and we offer this special intention for all Priests as we begin our Novena, that they may be renewed in the spirit of their vocation. Through the intercession of Saint Germaine Cousin (Patron of victims of abuse and the abandoned) and Saints Vitus, Modestus, and Crescentia (Models of heroic youth and steadfast witness), grant us the grace to turn the other cheek when faced with malice and to overcome evil with an uncalculating, sacrificial love. Strip away our pride and our natural desire to retaliate when we are wronged. Give us the fortitude to protect the vulnerable, the courage to stand for Your truth against the “Jezebels” of our time, and the simplicity of heart to serve You in humility, trusting that our ultimate inheritance is not found in worldly possessions, but in the peace of Your presence. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JUNE | MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS: June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a powerful sign of Christ’s love and mercy. His Heart, pierced and crowned with thorns, burns with compassion for all humanity. This devotion calls us to return love for love to console His Heart and make reparation for sin and indifference. Rooted in the revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Church invites us this month to deepen our trust in Jesus, especially through First Friday devotions, the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and acts of consecration. His words echo in our hearts: “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29).
The Sacred Heart shows us what true love looks like patient, humble, and self-giving. In a world often cold and restless, we find peace and healing in His Heart.
“Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You”
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, teach us to love as You love. Fill our hearts with compassion, mercy, and a deep desire to follow You. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of June to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Resurrection, the Ascension, and the fresh fire of the Holy Spirit, which we have so beautifully celebrated, continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Most Holy Trinity shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
