Greetings and blessings, beloved family.
Alleluia! Remain in me, as I remain in you, says the Lord; whoever remains in me will bear much fruit. As we gather in gratitude for the gift of this new day, we entrust this sixth day of May to the heart of the Father. Today, we honor a diverse assembly of saints who remained firmly attached to the True Vine: Saint John before the Latin Gate, who miraculously survived the cauldron of oil; Saint Evodius, who first called us by the name “Christian”; the youthful and joyful Saint Dominic Savio; the missionary bishop Saint Francis de Laval; Saint Peter Nolasco, the ransomer of captives; and the courageous martyrs Blessed Edward Jones and Anthony Middleton. In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that He is the Vine and we are the branches. He teaches us that our spiritual life depends entirely on our ability to remain in Him, for apart from Him, we can do nothing. This necessity of staying connected to the Truth is echoed in the First Reading, where the early Church undergoes a pruning of its own through the Council of Jerusalem, discerning how to welcome the Gentiles while remaining unified in Christ. May this reflection inspire us to go rejoicing to the house of the Lord, as we hear in today’s Responsorial Psalm. Let us pray that by the intercession of today’s saints, we may undergo whatever pruning is necessary to bear much fruit for the glory of the Father. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching and grace-filled day. Amen. 🙏🏽
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Fifth Week of Easter | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Easter | May 6, 2026
Reading I: Acts 15:1–6
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 122:1–2, 3–4ab, 4cd–5
Gospel: John 15:1–8
Gospel Reading ~ John 15:1–8
“I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit.”
Jesus said to his disciples: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit. You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you. Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Jesus uses the beautiful and organic imagery of the Vine and the Branches to illustrate our total dependence on Him. He transitions from promising peace to explaining the source of our spiritual vitality: our connection to Him. Jesus reveals that the Father is the vine grower who actively tends to us through pruning, a process that might be painful but is intended for our growth and fruitfulness. This reflection centers on the necessity of remaining or abiding. Just as a branch is lifeless without the sap of the vine, we are spiritually paralyzed without Christ. He explicitly warns that “without me you can do nothing,” emphasizing that our works only have eternal value when they flow from this vital union.
This passage highlights the power of the Word and Prayer as the means by which we remain in Him. Jesus tells the disciples they are already pruned because of the Word He has spoken. When His words remain in us, our desires begin to align with the Father’s will, leading to the promise that we can “ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.” This isn’t a blank check for selfish desires, but a guarantee that a heart perfectly attached to the Vine will bear fruit that glorifies God. To bear much fruit is the ultimate sign of true discipleship, showing that we have allowed the Vine Grower to shape our lives according to His purpose.
The First Reading demonstrates a moment of pruning within the early Church. As the community expands, a significant conflict arises regarding whether Gentile believers must observe the Mosaic law. This dissension and debate forced the Church to clarify its identity and stay rooted in the Truth. By sending Paul and Barnabas to Jerusalem to consult with the Apostles and presbyters, the community models how to remain in Christ’s peace while resolving internal struggles. This journey wasn’t just a administrative trip; it was a mission of joy as they shared the “conversion of the Gentiles” along the way. It teaches us that the greater works of the Church require constant discernment to ensure the branches stay healthy and connected to the True Vine.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 122) serves as a song of unity and anticipation: “Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.” It celebrates Jerusalem as a city of “compact unity” where the tribes go up to give thanks. This mirrors the journey of Paul and Barnabas as they seek the wisdom of the Apostles. The Psalm reminds us that when we are united in the Lord, our collective life becomes a place of “judgment seats” and “seats for the house of David” a place where God’s order and peace are established among men.
As we go through this Wednesday, let us consider the state of our connection to the Lord. Reflect today: Are you trying to bear fruit on your own strength, only to find yourself feeling withered and exhausted? How are you responding to the Father’s pruning in your life do you see it as a loss, or as a preparation for more fruit? Is the Word of Christ truly remaining in you, shaping your prayers and your actions? Trust that as long as you abide in the Vine, the Father is glorified in the fruit your life produces.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, You are the True Vine and we are the branches. We thank You for the life-giving sap of Your grace that flows through us. Forgive us for the times we have tried to act independently of You, forgetting that without You we can do nothing. Give us the courage to undergo the Father’s pruning so that we may bear more fruit for Your Kingdom. May Your words remain in us and our hearts remain in You, so that our lives may always reflect the glory of the Father. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT JOHN BEFORE THE LATIN GATE: Saint John the Evangelist (c. 95 AD), the beloved Apostle, was apprehended at Ephesus and sent in chains to Rome under Emperor Domitian. According to a tradition mentioned by Saint Jerome, he was condemned to be cast into a cauldron of boiling oil near the Latin Gate. By a striking miracle, God suspended the operation of the fire, and the oil became like an invigorating bath from which the Saint emerged refreshed and unharmed. Following this witness, the hardened Emperor banished him to the island of Patmos. A church was later consecrated on the spot of the miracle in memory of his martyrdom of love.
PRAYER: Lord, through the intercession of Saint John, who stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross, grant us the grace to share in Your sufferings with love. May we, like him, be preserved from the fires of iniquity and remain forever united to our Divine Master. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT EVODIUS OF ANTIOCH, BISHOP: Saint Evodius was one of the seventy-two disciples of Christ and is traditionally held to be the first Bishop of Antioch after Saint Peter. As the leader of the Church in Antioch, he was the first to coin the word “Christian” to refer to the disciples of Jesus. He served the early Church faithfully until his death, around 64–67 AD, when he was succeeded by Saint Ignatius. He stands as a pillar of the early faith and a witness to the birth of our Christian identity.
PRAYER: Almighty God, who called Saint Evodius to lead Your Church and give us the name of Christian, help us to live up to that holy calling. By his intercession, may we be faithful disciples of Your Son in all we do. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT DOMINIC SAVIO, CONFESSOR: Saint Dominic Savio (1842–1857) was a young pupil of Saint John Bosco who attained a high degree of sanctity by the age of fifteen. Known for his motto, “Death, but not sin!”, he organized the Company of the Immaculate Conception and found holiness in the cheerful performance of his daily duties. He was a hero of school-boy virtue who once broke up a duel by reminding his classmates that Christ died for love of them. He is the Patron Saint of choirboys, choristers, the falsely accused, and juvenile delinquents.
PRAYER: Lord God, You alone are holy and no one is good without You. Through the intercession of St. Dominic, help us to live in such a way that we may not be deprived of a share in Your glory. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT FRANCIS DE LAVAL, BISHOP: Saint Francis de Laval (1623–1708) was the first Bishop of Quebec and a pioneering missionary in the enormous frontier of New France. Born into an illustrious French family, he undertook perilous journeys to minister to his flock, founded the first Catholic school system in Canada, and fought tirelessly against the unethical alcohol trade to indigenous tribes. His profound holiness and devotion to the Immaculate Conception laid the spiritual foundations for the Church in North America.
PRAYER: Lord, through the intercession of Saint Francis de Laval, grant us a missionary heart. May we be bold in our witness and devoted to the spiritual education of those in our care, building Your Kingdom wherever You send us. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT PETER NOLASCO, FOUNDER: Saint Peter Nolasco (1189–1256) founded the Order of Our Lady of Mercy (Mercedarians) after the Blessed Virgin appeared to him in a vision. The order was specifically dedicated to ransoming Christians held in bondage, and members took a fourth vow to become captives themselves if necessary to free others. Personally responsible for freeing 890 captives, he died with the words of the Psalm on his lips: “The Lord has sent redemption to His people”.
PRAYER: O God, who inspired Saint Peter Nolasco to be a “ransomer” for the oppressed, grant us a spirit of true mercy. Through his intercession, deliver us from the bonds of sin and help us to seek the freedom of all Your children. Amen. 🙏🏽
BLESSED EDWARD JONES AND ANTHONY MIDDLETON, MARTYRS: Blessed Edward Jones and Anthony Middleton were priests sent to the English mission during the reign of Elizabeth I. Captured by spies posing as Catholics, they were subjected to a trial full of irregularities and condemned for “treason”. They were hanged before the very doors of the houses where they had been arrested, offering their deaths for the spread of the true Faith and the conversion of heretics.
PRAYER: Merciful God, who gave Blessed Edward and Anthony the courage to face a martyr’s death for the sake of the Gospel, strengthen our own witness. May their sacrifice lead to the conversion of hearts and the unity of all Christians. Amen. 🙏🏽
Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint John, Saint Evodius, Saint Dominic Savio, Saint Francis de Laval, Saint Peter Nolasco, and Blessed Edward Jones and Anthony Middleton — pray for us. 🙏🏽
PRAYER INTENTION: FOR OUR YOUTH, THE CAPTIVE, AND THE PERSECUTED
On this day, as we reflect on the True Vine that sustains us, we offer our petitions through the intercession of the saints who remained rooted in Christ’s love. Lord, we pray for our children and the youth of the world; through the intercession of Saint Dominic Savio (Patron Saint of choirboys, choristers, the falsely accused, and juvenile delinquents), grant them safety, health, and a joyful heart for sanctity. Protect those who have no one to care for them and grant Your Divine healing to those who are terminally ill. We pray for all who are held in bondage, whether in body or spirit, through the intercession of Saint Peter Nolasco (Founder of the Order of Mercy for the ransom of captives), send Your redemption to those who are oppressed. We also pray for those facing trials and persecution; through the intercession of Saint John before the Latin Gate and Blessed Edward Jones and Anthony Middleton (Martyrs for the Faith), grant them the strength to remain “safe and sound” in Your grace, even amidst the fires of hardship. Finally, we pray for the Church and its mission; through the intercession of Saint Evodius of Antioch (First Bishop to coin the name Christian) and Saint Francis de Laval (First Bishop of Canada), grant our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, the Bishops, and the Clergy the wisdom to lead Your flock. We pray for the conversion of sinners, for all widows and widowers, and for the repose of the souls of our beloved family members who have recently passed away. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF MAY | MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our spiritual Mother. This month invites the faithful to draw closer to Mary through prayer, reflection, and imitation of her virtues especially her humility, obedience, purity, and unwavering faith. As the first and most perfect disciple of Christ, Mary leads us gently but firmly to her Son. Throughout Church history, May has been a time to honor Mary with special devotions such as the Rosary, May Crownings, Marian processions, and prayers like the Litany of Loreto. The Church teaches that Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, intercedes for us as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church. During this month, we are called to renew our relationship with her and seek her maternal care in our joys, sorrows, and needs. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan with total trust: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her faithful surrender encourages us to say “yes” to God’s will in our own lives. As we meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and contemplate her role in salvation history, we grow in our love for her and our desire to follow Christ more closely.
In this beautiful month of blooming flowers, may our hearts also blossom with deeper devotion to the Mother of our Savior. Let us bring her our prayers, our homes, and our lives, asking her to accompany us with her love and protection.
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
Hail Mary, full of grace! Teach us to love Jesus as you loved Him. Cover us with your mantle of mercy, and help us to walk always in the light of your Son. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this month of May to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this new month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽
