Greetings and blessings, beloved family.

Alleluia! Jesus Christ, you are the faithful witness; you have loved us and freed us by your Blood. Today is Thursday, April 30, 2026, the final day of this grace-filled month. As we stand at the threshold of a new season, we lift our hearts in profound gratitude. Thank You, Lord, for the month of April, for the light of the Resurrection that has guided us, for the uplifted arm that has sustained us through every challenge, and for the countless blessings seen and unseen. As we prepare to enter the month of May, we consecrate the days ahead to You. Bless the coming month, Lord, may it be a time of blooming faith, new opportunities, and the continued protection of Your hand. In today’s Gospel, Jesus provides the ultimate lesson in humility, washing the feet of His disciples and reminding us that no messenger is greater than the one who sent him. He reveals that our true blessedness comes from doing the works of service He has shown us. In the First Reading, we join Paul in Antioch as he traces the history of God’s faithfulness, proving that Jesus is the fulfillment of every promise made to our ancestors. We are accompanied today by a beautiful cloud of witnesses: Our Lady of Africa, the motherly protectress of a vast continent; Saint Pius V, the Pope of the Rosary; Saint Marie of the Incarnation, the first woman missionary to the New World; and Saint Joseph Benedict Cottolengo, the father of the poor. Like the Psalmist, let our final act this April be a song of praise: “For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord!” Amen. 🙏🏽

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Fourth Week of Easter | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Thursday of the Fourth Week of Easter | April 30, 2026
Reading I: Acts 13:13–25
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 89:2–3, 21–22, 25 and 27
Gospel: John 13:16–20

Gospel Reading ~ John 13:16–20

“Whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

When Jesus had washed the disciples’ feet, he said to them: “Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it. I am not speaking of all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me. From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I AM. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In the Gospel, the setting is intimate and heavy with the reality of the Passion. Jesus has just performed the lowest task of a servant, washing feet, and He uses this act to define true leadership. This reflection centers on the chain of authority and humility: the messenger is never greater than the Sender. To be a messenger for Christ is to carry His presence. When we serve others in His name, we are not just doing a good deed; we are making the Father visible. Jesus warns that blessedness comes not from just understanding this humility, but from doing it. It is a call to move beyond theological head-knowledge into the active service of others.

Jesus also speaks of “the one who ate my food has raised his heel against me”. By quoting the Psalms and foretelling Judas’s betrayal, Jesus shows that He is in complete command of His destiny. He uses even the tragedy of betrayal to prove His identity as the I AM. This gives us great comfort: even when we are betrayed or when things go wrong in our mission, God is not surprised. He remains the Great I AM, holding us in a plan that leads to ultimate victory.

The First Reading shows Paul acting as that “sent messenger” in Antioch. His sermon is a beautiful summary of Salvation History. He reminds his listeners that God did not just choose Israel and leave them; He put up with them, exalted them, and provided for them at every turn. Paul points to David as a man after God’s own heart who carried out His every wish. The climax of the story is Jesus, the Savior brought forth according to the promise. This passage teaches us that our faith is not a collection of random events, but a deliberate uplifted arm of God moving through time to reach us today.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 89) echoes this historical faithfulness: “For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.” It celebrates the covenant with David, promising that God’s holy oil and mercy will remain. When we say, “You are my Father, my God, the Rock, my Savior,” we are standing on the same firm foundation that Paul preached in the synagogue. It is a Psalm of strength, assuring us that God’s arm makes us strong enough to fulfill our own course, just as John the Baptist completed his.

As we go through this Thursday, let us reflect on our role as messengers. Reflect today: In your home or workplace, are you trying to be greater than the Master, or are you willing to wash the feet of those around you? Are you raising your heel against the Lord through a lack of trust, or are you recognizing Him as the I AM in the midst of your current challenges? This is the day to sing of His favors. Trust that the God who chose David and sent Paul is the same God who has chosen you and is leading you to the inheritance of His peace.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, You are the Master who became a Servant. We thank You for the privilege of being Your messengers and for the security of being sent by the Father. Forgive us for our pride and for the times we have failed to observe Your commandment of humble service. Strengthen our faith, that even when we face betrayal or difficulty, we may believe that You are the I AM. May Your hand be always with us and Your arm make us strong to carry out Your every wish today. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

OUR LADY OF AFRICA: Our Lady of Africa is the Protectress whose intercession bridges hearts across diverse faiths. Her dark-hued statue in Algiers stands as a sign that the Good Shepherd’s fold is global and inclusive. Known as Lala Meriem to many, she reminds us that God’s uplifted arm is always extended to lead His children out of the deserts of hatred and racism. She is a mother to the scattered and a queen of peace for all nations, proving that the Savior is indeed a gift to all people.

PRAYER: Our Lady of Africa, Queen of Peace, hear the drumbeat of our prayers. May your Son’s law of Love win over and unite all hearts, so that together we may sing the Glory of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT PIUS V, POPE: Saint Pius V (1504–1572) was the Pope of the Rosary who served as a faithful witness during a time of great upheaval. A shepherd from his youth, he carried that humble heart to the Papacy, working tirelessly to reform the Church and unify its worship. Through the rosary crusade, he sought the intercession of the Virgin to defend the faith. He teaches us that God demands downright perfection in our love and that we must never be lukewarm in following the Master who washed our feet.

PRAYER: God, You providently raised up Saint Pius in Your Church for the defense of the Faith and for more suitable divine worship. Through his intercession, help us to participate in Your mysteries with a livelier faith and a more fruitful love. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT MARIE OF THE INCARNATION, RELIGIOUS: Saint Marie (1599–1672) was the first woman missionary to North America, a pioneering spirit who was sent forth by the Holy Spirit to New France. Like Paul, she crossed oceans to proclaim the Word, founding the first girls’ school in the New World and learning indigenous languages to share the Gospel. She proves that when we follow the Master who sent us, no obstacle of geography or culture can stop the growth of God’s Word.

PRAYER: O God, who raised up blessed Marie of the Incarnation to show others the way of salvation, grant us, by her example, so to follow Christ the Master that we may come with our neighbor into Your presence. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT JOSEPH BENEDICT COTTOLENGO, FOUNDER: Saint Joseph Benedict (1786–1842) was a servant-leader who lived the Gospel by washing the feet of the sick poor in Turin. He founded the Piccola Casa (Little House of Divine Providence), a sanctuary for thousands of marginalized souls. He trusted so totally in the hand of the Lord that he never doubted the provision of Providence. He reminds us that the abundant life Jesus promises is found when we lose ourselves in the service of those the world has rejected.

PRAYER: Lord, through the intercession of Saint Joseph Benedict Cottolengo, increase our confidence in Your divine providence. May we, like him, rejoice when it is said to us, “Let us go unto the House of the Lord,” finding our joy in serving the least of Your brethren. Amen. 🙏🏽

Our Blessed Mother Mary (Our Lady of Africa), Saint Pius V, Saint Marie of the Incarnation, and Saint Joseph Benedict Cottolengo — pray for us. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR PEACE IN AFRICA, CHURCH UNITY, AND THE MARGINALIZED

As we conclude this month of April, let us offer our petitions through the faithful witnesses who have gone before us. Lord, we pray for the continent of Africa and all nations torn apart by conflict and racism; through the intercession of Our Lady of Africa, Queen of Peace (Patron Saint of Africa), obtain for them the gift of peace. May the law of Love replace resentment, and may all people find a home in the one flock of the Good Shepherd. We pray for the Church, the Pope, and all who preach the Gospel; through the merits of Saint Pius V (Patron Saint of Valletta and the Rosary), grant them a spirit of reform and unity. May we be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, edifying others by the brilliance of our holiness and our dedication to the Truth. Finally, we pray for the poor, the terminally ill, and those in impossible situations; through the intercession of Saint Joseph Benedict Cottolengo (Patron Saint of the sick and the marginalized) and Saint Marie of the Incarnation (Patron Saint of missionaries and girls’ education), grant them deliverance. May the sick find divine healing, the dying find the House of the Lord, and the poor find comfort in the “Little House” of Your Providence. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF APRIL | MONTH OF HOLY EUCHARIST: April is dedicated to the Holy Eucharist, the greatest gift of Christ to His Church. In the Eucharist, Jesus is truly present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity offering Himself as the Bread of Life. This month invites us to deepen our love and reverence for the Eucharist, especially during Holy Week and Easter, celebrating the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord. The Eucharist was instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper when He said, “Take and eat; this is My Body… Drink from it, all of you, for this is My Blood of the Covenant” (Matthew 26:26-28). In receiving the Eucharist, we are united with Christ and His Church. It is the source of our strength and the culmination of our salvation, as Christ Himself said in John 6:51, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever.” As we journey through Lent, we are called to renew our reverence for the Eucharist. During Holy Week, we remember that Christ instituted this sacrament on Holy Thursday, offering us a way to remain in union with Him. Let us take this opportunity to attend Mass regularly, spend time in Eucharistic adoration, and reflect on the mystery of Christ’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament.

In this season of penance and reflection, may our devotion to the Eucharist strengthen our commitment to living as true disciples of Christ, leading us to the joy of Easter and the Resurrection.

O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine! Lord Jesus, You have given Yourself to us in the Eucharist. May we receive You with reverence and love, and let Your grace transform us always. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this last day of April to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽
