Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today, as we celebrate the solemn Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, alongside the memorial of Saint Justina of Padua, Virgin and Martyr, the Church honors the powerful spiritual weapon through which the Blessed Virgin Mary has guided and protected Christendom. Instituted in thanksgiving for the miraculous naval victory at Lepanto, today’s feast invites us to take up the Rosary as a contemplative prayer, meditating on the mysteries of Christ in union with our heavenly Mother. As today’s Gospel reminds us of the profound gift of prayer, where Jesus lovingly teaches His disciples the Lord’s Prayer and encourages us to approach the Father with childlike trust, let us draw near to God’s heart. Anchored in the steadfast kindness of our Creator and the gentle intercession of Our Lady, let us offer our daily prayers and go forth to tell the Good News today.

PRAYER FOR THE DECEASED: Merciful Father, we entrust to Your loving care the souls of Your faithful departed, especially those we remember today. Forgive their sins, welcome them into the light of Your presence, and grant them eternal rest. May Your perpetual light shine upon them, and may they rest in peace.

Gospel Reading ~ Luke 11:1-4

“Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.”

“Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.’ He said to them, ‘When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.'”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

Today, on the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Church invites us to center our hearts on the intimate conversation of prayer, the unbreakable unity of the Gospel, and the profound gift of calling God our Father. In the Gospel, when the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray, He responds by giving them the Lord’s Prayer, the ultimate blueprint for Christian communion with God. He teaches us to look past our own self-sufficiency and turn to our Father with childlike trust, asking for daily bread, mercy, and protection from trial, while binding our reception of forgiveness directly to our willingness to forgive others.

This fierce protection of the true Gospel and the unity of believers is powerfully echoed in the First Reading. Saint Paul recounts going up to Jerusalem to present the Gospel he preaches, securing the hand of partnership with the pillars of the Church, James, Cephas, and John, while remaining mindful of the poor. He even courageously confronts Peter face-to-face in Antioch when hypocrisy threatens to divide the community. Paul reminds us that the truth of the Gospel demands integrity and universal love. As the Responsorial Psalm joyfully urges: “Go out to all the world, and tell the Good News. For steadfast is his kindness toward us, and the fidelity of the LORD endures forever.” Through the prayer of the Rosary, Mary continually points us to the fruit of this Gospel: her Son, Jesus.

Today, let us examine our prayer life and our fidelity to Christ’s command of love. Are we seeking the Lord with the simplicity of the Our Lady’s prayer, or are we letting divisions and anxieties crowd out our daily communion with God? How can you set aside a few quiet moments today to meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and draw closer to the heart of the Father?

Heavenly Father, we thank You for adopting us as Your children and for giving us the privilege of calling You Abba, Father. Through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, teach us how to pray with a sincere, trusting heart. Forgive us for our hypocrisies and our failures to love others as You have loved us. Grant us the grace to hold fast to the truth of the Gospel, to forgive as we have been forgiven, and to walk faithfully in Your light today. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY: The Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary (formerly Our Lady of Victory) was established in thanksgiving for the miraculous triumph of Christian forces at the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. Pope St. Pius V, recognizing that victory came through the faithful praying the Rosary across Europe, instituted this feast to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and the powerful intercession of the Rosary. The feast was later extended to the universal Church by Pope Clement XI in 1716 after another miraculous victory at Belgrade, and Pope Leo XIII, the “Pope of the Rosary,” promoted the devotion widely, adding the invocation “Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us” to the Litany of Loreto. Tradition holds that the Rosary was given by the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Dominic in the 13th century as a spiritual weapon against heresy and sin. Each bead represents a prayer, and each mystery draws us into the life of Christ through Mary’s eyes. The Rosary is both vocal and meditative prayer, a sacred rhythm of reflection that leads us into the heart of the Gospel.

In October, the Church celebrates the Month of the Holy Rosary, urging the faithful to recite it daily as a source of grace, protection, and peace. Over the centuries, popes have reaffirmed its power, from Pius V to John Paul II, who enriched it with the Luminous Mysteries in 2002, inviting the faithful to meditate on Christ’s public ministry. The Rosary remains a powerful school of prayer, where we learn to contemplate Christ with Mary and bring the mysteries of salvation into our daily lives. The Church reminds us that praying the Rosary is not merely repeating words but meditating with the heart, allowing each Hail Mary to become a rose of love offered to the Mother of God, who presents them before her Son. When prayed with faith and attention, the Rosary transforms hearts, converts sinners, and brings peace to families and nations.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY: O God, whose Only Begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech You, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏾

SAINT JUSTINA OF PADUA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR: St. Justina of Padua (d. 304 A.D.) was a young and pious Christian woman who dedicated her virginity to Christ. She received baptism at the hands of St. Prosdocimus, the first Bishop of Padua in Italy. At the age of sixteen she was arrested for being a Christian under the persecutions of Roman Emperor Maximinian, and was ordered to make sacrifice to the pagan gods. When she refused, she was stabbed with a sword and left to die. Overlooking the field where she was martyred is a basilica named in her honor which holds her relics, as well as those of St. Luke the Evangelist, St. Matthias the Apostle, St. Prosdocimus, and other patron saints of Padua. Her feast was the day the Catholic naval forces won victory over the Turks in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, which increased her popularity among the faithful. St. Justina of Padua’s feast day is October 7th.

PRAYER: O God, who gave Saint Justina the grace to remain steadfast in faith and pure in heart amid persecution, grant that through her intercession we may love You above all things and persevere courageously in times of trial. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏾

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER | MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY: October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, a powerful prayer that draws us into the heart of the Gospel through the eyes of Mary. The Rosary is more than repetition, it is a meditation on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, united with the loving presence of His Blessed Mother. As Pope St. John Paul II reminded us, the Rosary is “a compendium of the Gospel,” helping us to contemplate Christ’s face with Mary.

The twenty mysteries of the Rosary, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous, invite us to journey with Christ from His Incarnation to His Passion and His triumph over death. Each mystery opens us to God’s saving love, strengthens our faith, and leads us to imitate the virtues of Jesus and Mary in our daily lives. This month, the Church invites us to renew our devotion to the Rosary by praying it daily, whether alone, in families, or in community. Through it, we find peace in times of trial, strength against temptation, and deeper trust in God’s providence. Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, intercedes for us and leads us always to her Son.

“O Mary, our Blessed Mother and Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, teach us to pray with a pure heart and a steadfast spirit. As we meditate on the mysteries of Christ, help us to grow in faith, hope, and love. Intercede for us before your Son, that our families, our Church, and our world may be filled with peace and the light of the Gospel. Amen.” 🙏🏽
