Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today, the Church honors the memory of Saint Celine, Saint Ursula and Companions, and Saint Hilarion. These holy souls demonstrate how varied and rich the path of Christian stewardship can be. Saint Celine quietly nurtured saints through prayer and motherly devotion; Saint Ursula and her virgin companions stood as courageous witnesses of purity and faith, laying down their lives for Christ; and Saint Hilarion spent a lifetime of rigorous desert asceticism, Scripture meditation, and prayer. Each of them remained vigilant, keeping their eyes fixed on eternity. Their total dedication echoes today’s Gospel, where Jesus calls us to be faithful and prudent stewards who fulfill the Master’s will with joy and perseverance, remembering that much is required of those to whom much has been entrusted.

🙏🏽 A PRAYER FOR OUR HOLY FATHER, POPE LEO XIV 🙏🏽🤍

According to the Vatican News Pope Leo XIV has officially been discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and has returned safely to the Vatican, recovering well ahead of initial schedules following his lung surgery. We give thanks for his successful discharge and continue to hold Pope Leo XIV in our prayers for his complete healing, restored strength, and continued good health. Amen 🙏🏾.

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Wednesday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time | Wednesday, October 21, 2026
Reading 1:
Ephesians 3:2-12
Responsorial Psalm: Isaiah 12:2-3, 4bcd, 5-6
Gospel: Luke 12:39-48

Gospel Reading ~ Luke 12:39-48

“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”

“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.’ Then Peter said, ‘Lord, is this parable meant for us or for everyone?’ And the Lord replied, ‘Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the master will put in charge of his servants to distribute the food allowance at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on arrival finds doing so. Truly, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. But if that servant says to himself, “My master is delayed in coming,” and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, to eat and drink and get drunk, then that servant’s master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish the servant severely and assign him a place with the unfaithful. That servant who knew his master’s will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely; and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly. Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.'”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

Today’s readings speak directly to our call to be faithful, prudent stewards of the divine gifts, responsibilities, and grace entrusted to us by God. In the Gospel, Jesus continues His exhortation on vigilance, warning that the Son of Man will come at an hour we do not expect. In response to Peter’s question, Jesus defines the mark of a true leader and disciple: a “faithful and prudent steward” who consistently cares for others and executes the Master’s will. Jesus emphasizes that accountability grows with privilege—“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much.” We are called not to passive waiting, but to active, loving service and fidelity in our daily duties.

This sense of sacred stewardship is beautifully echoed by Saint Paul in the First Reading. Paul describes his apostolic mission as a “stewardship of God’s grace,” given to him for the benefit of all people. Though calling himself “the very least of all the holy ones,” Paul marvels at the grace granted to him to preach the inscrutable riches of Christ and reveal God’s eternal plan: that all people are coheirs and copartners in the promise of Christ Jesus through the Gospel. Grounded in this great mystery, the Responsorial Psalm invites us to serve with joyful confidence: “God indeed is my savior; I am confident and unafraid… With joy you will draw water at the fountain of salvation.”

Today, let us reflect on our own stewardship. How are we using the time, talents, faith, and blessings God has entrusted to us? Are we actively serving others with love and prudence, or taking our spiritual gifts for granted? How can you exercise faithful stewardship today over the gifts and responsibilities God has placed in your hands?

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the stewardship of grace You have entrusted to us in Christ Jesus. Forgive us for the times we have been negligent, self-absorbed, or sluggish in doing Your holy will. Fill us with wisdom and prudence, that we may serve those in our care with diligence and love. Keep us vigilant and ready for the return of Your Son, drawing water joyfully from the springs of salvation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINTS OF THE DAY | OCTOBER 21ST:

Direct link to the detailed history of Saint Celine, Saint Ursula and Companions, and Saint Hilarion | https://dailyreflectionswithphilomena.com/saints-of-the-day-feast-day-october-21st/

SAINT CELINE, MOTHER OF SAINT REMIGIUS(Died c. 458): St. Celine is best known as the mother of two Saints: St. Principius, Bishop of Soissons, and St. Remigius, Bishop of Rheims at the time of the conversion of the people of Gaul under Clovis. Very few details about her life are known. About 438, at an advanced age, St. Celine miraculously gave birth to St. Remigius. Immediately after giving birth, about 438, she also gave sight to the hermit, Montanus, who had three times foretold the birth of the saintly Bishop. She lived a holy life of prayer and doing good works and assiduous prayer. She died attaining the rewards of heaven about the year 458.  She was buried near Lyons. probably at Cerny, where she had lived. Unfortunately her relics were destroyed during the French Revolution.

PRAYER: God, You inspired St. Celine to strive for perfect charity and so attain Your Kingdom at the end of her pilgrimage on earth. Strengthen us through her intercession that we may advance rejoicing in the way of love. Amen 🙏🏾

SAINT URSULA AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS (4th Century): Saint Ursula’s story, surrounded by legend yet radiant with faith, tells of a British princess of noble birth and profound Christian devotion. Chosen for marriage by a pagan prince, she agreed on the condition that he and his court be baptized and that they make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. With her companions—virgins devoted to Christ—she embarked on this sacred journey. On their return, they were captured in Cologne and martyred for their fidelity to Christ. Ursula’s unwavering courage inspired generations of women religious, particularly Saint Angela Merici, who founded the Ursulines under her patronage. Though history cannot recount every detail, the essence of their witness remains: a pure and steadfast love that preferred death to denial of Christ.

PRAYER: O God, who crowned Saint Ursula and her companions with the glory of martyrdom, grant that through their example we may remain faithful to You with unshakable courage and joyful hearts. Amen. 🙏🏾

SAINT HILARION (HILARY), HERMIT (c. 291–371): Saint Hilarion of Gaza is known as one of the great founders of monastic life in Palestine. Born into a pagan family, he was converted to Christianity while studying in Alexandria. Drawn to a life of prayer and solitude, he became a disciple of Saint Anthony of Egypt, then returned to Gaza to live as a hermit. He devoted his life to fasting, Scripture, and constant prayer, battling temptations and performing miracles through the power of faith. Many were drawn to his holiness, and he became the father of numerous monks. Even amid trials and demonic attacks, he remained steadfast, proclaiming before his death: “Go forth, my soul; why do you fear? You have served Christ for seventy years!” His life reveals the strength born of solitude and the joy of total surrender to God.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You called Saint Hilarion to the desert to find peace in Your presence. Through his intercession, teach us to silence our hearts before You and to seek holiness in simplicity and prayer. Amen. 🙏🏾

Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Celine, Saint Ursula and Companions, and Saint Hilarion ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏾

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER | MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY: October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, a powerful prayer that draws us into the heart of the Gospel through the eyes of Mary. The Rosary is more than repetition, it is a meditation on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, united with the loving presence of His Blessed Mother. As Pope St. John Paul II reminded us, the Rosary is “a compendium of the Gospel,” helping us to contemplate Christ’s face with Mary.

The twenty mysteries of the Rosary, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous, invite us to journey with Christ from His Incarnation to His Passion and His triumph over death. Each mystery opens us to God’s saving love, strengthens our faith, and leads us to imitate the virtues of Jesus and Mary in our daily lives. This month, the Church invites us to renew our devotion to the Rosary by praying it daily, whether alone, in families, or in community. Through it, we find peace in times of trial, strength against temptation, and deeper trust in God’s providence. Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, intercedes for us and leads us always to her Son.

“O Mary, our Blessed Mother and Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, teach us to pray with a pure heart and a steadfast spirit. As we meditate on the mysteries of Christ, help us to grow in faith, hope, and love. Intercede for us before your Son, that our families, our Church, and our world may be filled with peace and the light of the Gospel. Amen.” 🙏🏽
