Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel, Alleluia! Today the Church celebrates the Wednesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time, alongside the Memorial of Saints Priscilla (Prisca) and Aquila, Martyrs; Saint Edgar the Peacemaker; Saint Kilian (St. Cillian), Bishop and Martyr; and Blessed Peter Vigne, Priest. Today’s liturgy serves as a powerful call to personal conversion and active mission. In the First Reading, the prophet Hosea warns against the subtle dangers of prosperity and self-reliance, urging us to break up the hardened ground of our hearts and seek the Lord in truth. The Responsorial Psalm echoes this invitation, calling us to constantly seek the face and strength of God in every circumstance. In the Gospel, Jesus responds to this spiritual hunger by summoning the Twelve Apostles equipping ordinary, flawed individuals with His divine authority to bring healing, drive out spiritual darkness, and proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. As we step into today’s reflections, let us open our hearts to Christ’s call to become faithful, courageous laborers in His vineyard.

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Wednesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time | July 8, 2026
Reading I: Hosea 10:1-3, 7-8, 12
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 105:2-3, 4-5, 6-7
Gospel: Matthew 10:1-7

GOSPEL READING ~ MATTHEW 10:1-7

“As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”

Jesus summoned his Twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness. The names of the Twelve Apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus. Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus, “Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In the Gospel, Christ establishes His apostolic ministry and equips His inner circle with divine power, presenting The Commissioning of the Twelve and the Proclamation of the Kingdom. Transitioning from His individual ministry, Jesus specifically summons His Twelve disciples, elevating them to Apostles and endowing them with His own sovereign authority to expel unclean spirits and heal every manner of disease and illness. By listing them explicitly, ranging from simple fishermen like Peter to a marginalized tax collector like Matthew, and even including Judas who would ultimately betray Him, the text highlights that God uses ordinary, flawed instruments to execute His extraordinary designs. Sending them forth with precise strategic instructions, Christ directs them initially to bypass pagan and Samaritan territories to target the spiritually lost sheep of Israel first. Their core mission is singular and urgent: to act as His official heralds, actively declaring to a weary world that the long-awaited Kingdom of Heaven is break-out reality right now.

The First Reading delivers an intense spiritual diagnosis of prosperity-driven drift and calls for profound internal renewal, presenting The False Fruit of Self-Indulgence and the Command to Seek the Lord. Through the prophet Hosea, God describes Israel as a luxuriant, flourishing vine whose fatal flaw is that its spiritual devotion matches its material success; the more wealth and abundance the land produced, the more pagan altars and sacred pillars they erected. Exposing their divided and false hearts, the Lord warns that this superficial, self-reliant security will face swift judgment, reducing their human kings to meaningless foam on the water and allowing thorns and thistles to overrun their idolatrous altars. Confronted with this looming desolation where desperate people will beg the mountains to cover them, the prophet pivots to a powerful path of restoration. He commands the people to break up the unplowed, hardened soil of their hearts, to sow justice, and to reap piety, urgently reminding them that it is time to seek the Lord until He comes to rain down saving justice upon them.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 105) acts as the perfect spiritual antidote to this hollow drift, singing: “Seek always the face of the Lord.” It shifts our gaze entirely away from temporary worldly achievements and anchors it back into a vibrant, relational history with God. The psalmist calls upon the descendants of Abraham and Jacob to exult in His holy name, constantly recall the staggering wonders He has wrought in the past, and actively look to His strength rather than their own fragile power.

As we navigate our academic goals, career projects, and personal routines on this Wednesday, let us confront the state of our internal soil. Reflect today: Has material comfort, digital distraction, or personal success subtly caused you to build “altars” of self-reliance, leaving your heart divided and spiritually empty? Is there a hardened, unyielding area in your life, perhaps an old habit, a lack of forgiveness, or an over-reliance on your own strength, that requires you to break up new ground today? When challenges rise up and make you feel like “foam upon the waters,” will you scramble for human solutions, or will you step out in the authority Christ has given you to proclaim His presence in your environment?

Let us pray: Sovereign Lord, Master of the Vineyard and Giver of all good things, we confess that our hearts can easily become divided when our lives are comfortable. Forgive us for the times we have allowed your blessings to fuel our self-reliance rather than our gratitude, and for building modern altars to our own egos and achievements. We thank You for calling us by name, just as You called the Twelve, and for trusting us with the work of Your Kingdom despite our individual weaknesses. Send Your Holy Spirit to break up the hardened, stubborn ground within our souls today. Help us to sow seeds of practical justice and uncompromised piety in our schools, offices, and homes. Let Your grace rain down upon our weariness, clear away our lingering anxieties, and empower us to boldly declare through our lives that Your Kingdom is close at hand. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINTS PRISCILLA (PRISCA) AND AQUILA, MARTYRS: Saints Priscilla and Aquila were a devout Jewish couple from Pontus who converted to Christianity and became close collaborators of Saint Paul. Forced to leave Rome due to Emperor Claudius’ decree, they moved to Corinth, where they hosted Paul in their home and worked alongside him as tentmakers and missionaries (Acts 18). They later journeyed to Ephesus and Rome again, continuing to provide a house-church and guiding the faithful, including the eloquent Apollos, whom they helped understand the fullness of the Christian message. Saint Paul called them his “coworkers in Christ” and said they risked their lives for him (Romans 16:3–4). Tradition holds that they were martyred some say in Rome, others in Ephesus giving their lives for the faith they so generously shared. Their unity in marriage and mission remains a powerful model for Christian couples today.

PRAYER: Lord God, You called Saints Priscilla and Aquila to serve side by side in building up Your Church. Strengthen all Christian spouses and lay missionaries through their intercession. May we, like them, offer our homes and hearts to Christ, witnessing with courage and unity in our daily lives. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT EDGAR THE PEACEMAKER: Saint Edgar (943–975), King of England, ruled during a time of great peace and spiritual renewal. Though ascending the throne at a young age, he promoted unity throughout the kingdom and became a powerful supporter of monastic reform, working closely with Saint Dunstan and other leaders of the English Church. Under his reign, the Benedictine revival flourished, establishing strong moral and spiritual foundations in England. Despite personal failings, Edgar’s reign was marked by justice and strength. His famed coronation in Bath in 973 symbolized a new, unified English monarchy. After his death, he was revered as a saint for his role in strengthening the Church and promoting peace and order in a divided land.

PRAYER: O God, who gave Saint Edgar wisdom and courage to guide his people and support the reform of Your Church, grant that leaders today may pursue peace with justice and foster holiness in every nation. Through his intercession, bless all widows, widowers, and rulers. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT KILIAN (ST. CILLIAN), BISHOP AND MARTYR: Saint Kilian, born in Ireland around 640 AD, left his homeland with eleven companions to spread the Gospel across continental Europe. After receiving papal approval in Rome, he settled in Würzburg and began preaching in the regions of Franconia and Thuringia. Known as the Apostle of Franconia, Kilian courageously challenged moral corruption and called rulers and people alike to live in accordance with the Gospel. His boldness cost him his life. When he called the Duke of Würzburg to end an unlawful marriage, the enraged duchess had Kilian and two of his companions executed. Their martyrdom became a seed of faith in the region, and a grand cathedral was later built on the site of their martyrdom. His feast remains one of Würzburg’s most celebrated events.

PRAYER: Holy God, You filled Saint Kilian with apostolic zeal and courage to call others to truth. May his fearless witness inspire us to preach the Gospel with clarity and love, even in the face of persecution. Protect all missionaries today and lead many to the light of Christ. Amen. 🙏🏽

BLESSED PETER VIGNE, PRIEST: Blessed Peter Vigne (1670–1740) was a French priest devoted to preaching missions and promoting Eucharistic adoration. Though he briefly joined the Vincentian Fathers, he felt called to a more itinerant missionary life. For over thirty years, he traveled through rural France, celebrating Mass, hearing confessions, visiting the sick, and teaching the faith. In 1715, he founded the Blessed Sacrament Sisters of Valence to accompany pilgrims and promote devotion to the Passion and Real Presence of Jesus. His life was marked by prayer, sacrifice, and deep love for the Eucharist. A powerful moment of conversion as a youth after falling before the Blessed Sacrament—defined his life of reverence and service. He was beatified in 2004 by Pope John Paul II.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, in the heart of Blessed Peter Vigne burned a deep love for Your Eucharistic presence. Through his intercession, awaken in us a renewed devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Make us humble servants of Your Word, tireless in mission, and faithful to the Cross. Amen. 🙏🏽

HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw deep inspiration today from the vibrant, apostolic partnership of Saints Priscilla and Aquila, the righteous and peaceful rule of Saint Edgar, the heroic missionary courage of Saint Kilian, and the tireless Eucharistic devotion of Blessed Peter Vigne, we also turn our hearts to the rest of the holy assembly sharing this July 8th feast day. PRAYER INTENTION: HOLINESS IN MARRIAGE, PEACEFUL LEADERSHIP, FEARLESS TRUTH, AND EUCHARISTIC DEVOTION

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF JULY: For respect for human life. Let us pray for the respect and protection of human life in all its stages, recognizing it as a gift from God.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JULY | MONTH OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ a profound devotion that honors the redeeming power of Christ’s Blood shed for our salvation. Flowing from His Sacred Heart, this Blood is the price of our redemption, the source of grace in the sacraments, and the seal of the New Covenant. It reminds us that salvation was not won lightly, but through the ultimate sacrifice of love. This month, the Church invites us to meditate on the infinite value of Christ’s Blood poured out during His Passion from Gethsemane to Calvary and in every celebration of the Holy Eucharist. We are called to offer acts of reparation for the sins of the world and to intercede for the conversion of souls. Devotions such as the Litany of the Precious Blood, the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, and daily consecration to the Precious Blood help deepen our union with Christ crucified.

As Saint John Chrysostom once said, “The Precious Blood is the salvation of souls; it purifies, sanctifies, and strengthens.” In our trials, let us take refuge beneath the cross, trusting in the Blood that speaks of mercy, victory, and eternal life.

“Precious Blood of Jesus, save us and the whole world.”

O Most Precious Blood of Jesus, fountain of salvation, we adore You. Wash us clean of sin, protect us from evil, and draw us into deeper love and union with You. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of July to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Cross, the cleansing power of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and the enduring fire of the Holy Spirit continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Heart of our Redeemer shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
