Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

“Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him and we will come to him.” Alleluia! Today, the liturgy challenges us to examine our foundation. We are called to move past empty, verbal piety and anchor our daily habits on the unshakeable rock of active obedience. This bedrock faith is lived out by today’s saints: William of Vercelli turned roadblocks into prayer, Prosper of Reggio gave his wealth to the poor, Dominic Henares faced martyrdom, and Prosper of Aquitaine fiercely defended the truth. In the Gospel (Matthew 7:21–29), Jesus warns that building on the sand of mere hearing guarantees total ruin when life’s storms hit. This collapse is historically mirrored in the First Reading (2 Kings 24:8–17), where King Jehoiachin abandons the covenant, leading to a devastating Babylonian exile that strips the temple. In this brokenness, the Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 79) begs: “For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.”

Are you building your life on the shifting sand of cultural trends, or are you digging deep to anchor your habits on Christ’s word? When the storms of anxiety or hardship strike your house, will your foundation stand?

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Thursday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time | June 25, 2026
Reading I: 2 Kings 24:8-17
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 79:1b-2, 3-5, 8, 9
Gospel: Matthew 7:21-29

Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 7:21-29

“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.”

Jesus said to his disciples: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’ Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.’ “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.” When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In the Gospel, Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount by exposing the terrifying illusion of superficial discipleship, presenting The Illusion of Charismatic Deception and the Bedrock of Covenantal Obedience. Christ shatters the false confidence of those who rely on verbal expressions of piety (“Lord, Lord”) or spectacular external displays of power, such as prophecy, exorcisms, and mighty deeds. He warns that spectacular religious performance can mask a heart completely unacquainted with the Father’s will. On judgment day, these performers will face the most sobering verdict in scripture: “I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.” Jesus then contrasts humanity through an architectural paradigm: the wise man who digs deep to anchor his life on the immovable rock of active obedience, versus the foolish man who builds lazily on shifting sand. Both structures face the exact same structural trial—the same rain, floods, and buffeting winds. The distinction lies entirely in the foundation: the house on the rock stands unshakeable, while the house built on the sand of mere hearing undergoes a catastrophic, total ruin.

The historical reality of building on sand and the resulting collapse is graphically illustrated in the First Reading through The Imperial Capitulation of Jerusalem and the Systematic Desecration of Davidic Heritage. King Jehoiachin of Judah takes the throne at eighteen, bringing a legacy of evil that mirrors his forebears, effectively abandoning the covenantal bedrock of his ancestors. Consequently, the Babylonian war machine under Nebuchadnezzar surrounds Jerusalem. Lacking the supernatural protection enjoyed by his faithful predecessor Hezekiah, Jehoiachin surrenders completely to the pagan emperor. The spiritual and material inheritance of Israel is systematically dismantled: Nebuchadnezzar strip-mines the temple of the Lord, breaks up the sacred gold utensils Solomon had crafted, and deports the entire elite, ten thousand officers, craftsmen, and trained soldiers into exile. Only the poorest of the land are left behind. By substituting Jehoiachin with his uncle Mattaniah and renaming him Zedekiah, the Babylonian tyrant demonstrates absolute dominion over the crown, illustrating the total ruin that occurs when a nation treats the word of God as shifting sand.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 79) serves as the devastating, corporate lamentation over this exact structural collapse, crying out: The Reproach of the Broken Sanctuary and the Cry for Vindicating Mercy. The liturgy details the horrific aftermath of Jerusalem’s fall pagan nations defiling the inheritance of God, laying the holy temple in ruins, and leaving the bodies of the faithful as food for birds and wild beasts. In their deep humiliation, the community does not look for geopolitical alliances, but asks a critical theological question: “O LORD, how long? Will you be angry forever?” The psalm recognizes that their political disaster is fundamentally a spiritual crisis. They beg God to overlook past iniquities and let His compassion quickly come to them, framing their rescue entirely around the vindication of His character: “Help us, O God our savior, because of the glory of your name; deliver us and pardon our sins for your name’s sake.”

As we navigate this Thursday, let us closely inspect the foundation upon which our daily existence is engineered. Reflect today: Are you building a fragile, superficial lifestyle on the sand of casual church attendance, social media piety, and empty words, or are you doing the hard work of anchoring your habits in radical obedience to Christ? When the inevitable storms of life, sudden loss, family crises, or heavy anxieties, buffet your peace, does your character stand firm, or does it collapse because it lacks a deep foundation?

Let us pray: Sovereign Father, King of Kings and true Rock of our salvation, deliver us today from the dangerous illusion of an empty religious life. Forgive us for the times we have spoken your name with our lips while our daily actions rebelled against Your will. Strip away any false security we have placed in our past achievements or human validation. Give us the wisdom and grace to dig deep every single day, anchoring our marriages, careers, and personal decisions upon the solid rock of Your holy word. When the storms of this world rage against us, let our lives stand as an unshakeable testament to Your fidelity, and preserve our families from the ruin of exile. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

Direct link to the detailed history of Saint William of Vercelli, Saint Prosper of Reggio, Saint Dominic Henares, and Saint Prosper of Aquitaine | https://dailyreflectionswithphilomena.com/saints-of-the-day-feast-day-june-25th/

SAINT WILLIAM OF VERCELLI, ABBOT: Saint William of Vercelli (1085–1142 A.D.) was a noble Italian hermit and founder of the Congregation of Montevergine. Orphaned in infancy, he embraced radical penance at age fifteen, undertaking a barefoot pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela with an iron ring bound around his waist. After being beaten by brigands on his way to Jerusalem, he discerned a call to solitary contemplation in Italy, retreating to the rugged peak of Monte Vergiliana (renamed Montevergine), where his holiness and miraculous healings attracted numerous disciples. He officially established his monastery in 1119, overcame demonic divisions by establishing several more houses for men and women across Naples, and served as a trusted spiritual advisor to the King of Naples until his peaceful death on June 25, 1142.

PRAYER: Lord God, You gave Your Church an uncompromised model of evangelical perfection and monastic fortitude through Saint William of Vercelli. Grant, through his intercession, that amid the uncertainties and anxieties of this world, we may cling with all our hearts to the things of heaven, treating our unexpected roadblocks as setups for Your perfect will. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT PROSPER OF REGGIO, BISHOP: Saint Prosper of Reggio (c. 5th–6th Century A.D.) was an angelic Italian prelate and legendary defender of the poor who famously took Christ’s command to the rich young man literally, surrendering his entire ancestral wealth to the destitute to secure treasure in heaven. He was elevated to the episcopate of Reggio Emilia, where he served for twenty-two years with profound kindness, unyielding charity, and an approachable modesty that shied away from human praise. Demonstrating his complete lack of vanity, he refused burial in the city’s grand cathedral, choosing instead a humble church outside the city walls where he was laid to rest on June 25, 466.

PRAYER: Almighty and Ever-Living God, You made Saint Prosper of Reggio an outstanding exemplar of divine love and uncompromised charity. Look with favor upon the poor and lonely, and grant by his intercession that we may strip away all superficial pride, persevere in unshakeable faith, and become sharers of his eternal glory. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT DOMINIC HENARES, BISHOP AND MARTYR: Saint Dominic Henares (1764–1838 A.D.) was a heroic Spanish Dominican missionary and underground bishop who shed his blood for Christ during the brutal anti-Catholic persecutions in Vietnam. Born to a poor family, he joined the Order of Preachers and was ordained in 1790, eventually traveling to the missions of North Vietnam where he was consecrated Bishop of Phunhay in 1803. When the Emperor outlawed Catholicism in 1831, Bishop Henares spent years navigating a razor-thin path of survival to secretly shepherd his flock until he was betrayed by local villagers for a government bounty, arrested, and solemnly beheaded in Nam Dinh on June 25, 1838.

PRAYER: Sovereign Lord, You gave Saint Dominic Henares the intense courage to choose the constricted road of absolute fidelity, even when it led directly to the scaffold. Shield all persecuted Christians across our world today, and grant us the grace to stand firm on the rock of faith when our own lives are buffeted by trials. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT PROSPER OF AQUITAINE: Saint Prosper of Aquitaine (c. 390–455 A.D.) was a brilliant lay Christian theologian and the premier defender of Saint Augustine of Hippo whose intellectual zeal decisively broke the back of the Pelagian heresy. Mastering both sacred and secular learning, his uncompromised virtue led the writers of his era to revere him as a holy doctor of truth as he entered the theological arena against semi-Pelagianism, answering bitter smear campaigns with exquisite gentleness and precision. His extraordinary talents moved Pope Saint Leo the Great to invite him to Rome in 440 to serve as his personal secretary, where his monumental writings ensured that the bedrock of Catholic orthodoxy remained unshakeable.

PRAYER: O God, Creator and Source of all wisdom, You raised up the lay scholar Saint Prosper of Aquitaine to be an unbending champion of Your sovereign grace. Grant us, through his intercession, a deep hunger for sacred learning, the grace to defend our faith with clarity and gentleness, and a mind permanently anchored in Your truth. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw profound inspiration today from the radical austerity of Saint William of Vercelli, the pastoral wisdom of Saint Prosper of Reggio, the heroic missionary martyrdom of Saint Dominic Henares, and the brilliant theological defense of the faith by Saint Prosper of Aquitaine, we also lift our hearts to the entire cloud of witnesses sharing this June 25th feast day. Today, we prayerfully honor and remember SAINT ADALBERT, SAINT EUROSIA, SAINT GALLICANUS, SAINT GOHARDUS, SAINT MAXIMUS OF TURIN, SAINT MOLOC, SAINT MOLONACHUS, AND SAINT SELYF. Spanning across generations, from early courageous bishops and martyrs who stood unbroken in their witness to dedicated monastics and holy protectors who sought the face of God in every corner of the world, their collective lives beautifully reflect the multifaceted grace of God. Remembering them reminds us that we belong to an incredibly vast and diverse family of faith, encouraging us to boldly step out and live out our unique call to holiness exactly where we are today.

Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint William of Vercelli, Saint Prosper of Reggio, Saint Dominic Henares, Saint Prosper of Aquitaine, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR THE ENDURANCE OF FAITH, AN UNCOMMITMENT TO WORLDLY VANITY, AND A BEDROCK FOUNDATION

On this Thursday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time, we gather inside the sanctuary of Your presence, O Lord, celebrating that You are our unshakeable Rock. We lift up all students, freelance creators, the poor, the lonely, and those suffering from cancers, physical deformities, or terminal illnesses, asking that Your divine compassion quickly meet them. We pray for our families, asking for absolute protection against the storms of life, and we pray for our global clergy, that they may shepherd Your flock with uncompromised authority. Through the intercession of Saint William of Vercelli (Patron of monastic life), Saint Prosper of Reggio (Patron of the poor), Saint Dominic Henares (Patron of persecuted Christians), and Saint Prosper of Aquitaine (Patron against heresy), we lay our specific petitions before Your throne. Grant us, Lord, their iron fortitude to handle unexpected roadblocks, their radical charity toward the less fortunate, and their intellectual clarity to defend Your truth with uncompromised gentleness. Deliver us, O Lord, from the dangerous illusion of empty piety exposed in today’s Gospel. Strip us of the hypocrisy that says “Lord, Lord” with our lips while our daily habits build on shifting sand; give us the grace to dig deep and anchor our lives on the rock of active obedience. Save us from the spiritual negligence that leads to exile and the systematic stripping of our inheritance, as witnessed in the First Reading. When the rains fall, the floods rise, and the winds buffet our shores, let our houses stand firm, and answer the cry of today’s Responsorial Psalm by pardoning our sins and delivering us for the glory of Your holy name. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JUNE | MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS: June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a powerful sign of Christ’s love and mercy. His Heart, pierced and crowned with thorns, burns with compassion for all humanity. This devotion calls us to return love for love to console His Heart and make reparation for sin and indifference. Rooted in the revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Church invites us this month to deepen our trust in Jesus, especially through First Friday devotions, the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and acts of consecration. His words echo in our hearts: “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29).

The Sacred Heart shows us what true love looks like patient, humble, and self-giving. In a world often cold and restless, we find peace and healing in His Heart.

“Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You”

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, teach us to love as You love. Fill our hearts with compassion, mercy, and a deep desire to follow You. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of June to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Resurrection, the Ascension, and the fresh fire of the Holy Spirit, which we have so beautifully celebrated, continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Most Holy Trinity shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
