Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
Today, the Church celebrates the glorious Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, a day when we contemplate the divinity of Christ shining forth on Mount Tabor. This sacred event, witnessed by Peter, James, and John, offers a glimpse of the eternal glory that awaits us and confirms Jesus as the Beloved Son to whom we must listen. On this same day, we celebrate the Memorial of Saint Maria Francesca Rubatto, the foundress of the Capuchin Sisters of Mother Rubatto and the first saint of Uruguay. Her life serves as a beautiful reflection of the Transfiguration; just as Christ’s light pierced the darkness of human history, Maria Francesca allowed the light of Christ to shine through her tireless charity toward the sick, the neglected, and the poor in Italy and South America. Together, the Feast and the Saint remind us that our faith is not merely a belief, but a transforming encounter with the Light of the World, calling us to emerge from the shadows of sin into the joy of God’s children.

Today’s Bible Readings for Thursday, August 6, 2026 | Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
Reading 1: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 9
Reading 2: 2 Peter 1:16-19
Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9
Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 17:1-9
“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’”
“Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, ‘Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’ When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, ‘Rise, and do not be afraid.’ And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, ‘Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.'”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
On this glorious feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the liturgy invites us to ascend the holy mountain with Peter, James, and John to witness the divine majesty of Jesus unveiled. On Mount Tabor, the veil of Christ’s humanity is pulled back, revealing His uncreated divine glory. His face shines like the sun, and His garments become radiant white as light. The appearance of Moses, representing the Law, and Elijah, representing the Prophets, confirms that Jesus is the fulfillment of all God’s promises throughout salvation history. As Peter marvels at the scene and offers to build tents, the voice of the Father echoes from the luminous cloud, issuing a divine mandate for every disciple: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
The First Reading from Daniel gives us a prophetic preview of this heavenly reality, as Daniel sees the “Ancient One” surrounded by thrones of fire and receiving “One like a Son of Man” who is given everlasting dominion. The Responsorial Psalm echoes this cosmic majesty, proclaiming, “The Lord is king, the Most High over all the earth!”, reminding us that the very mountains melt like wax before His divine presence. In the Second Reading, Saint Peter testifies with apostolic authority that the Gospel message is no cleverly devised myth. He recalls standing on that holy mountain, hearing the Father’s voice, and witnessing Christ’s majesty with his own eyes. Peter urges us to cling to this prophetic word as “a lamp shining in a dark place” until the day dawns in our hearts.
The Transfiguration was not merely an awe-inspiring spectacle for the three apostles; it was given to prepare their hearts for the scandal of the Cross and to give us hope in our own spiritual journeys. Before Jesus entered His passion in Jerusalem, He allowed them to glimpse the glory of His resurrection. In our daily lives, we also experience “mountain-top moments” of grace, clarity, and deep peace, as well as dark valleys of suffering, fear, and uncertainty. When fear strikes, Jesus steps near, touches us, and says, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” When you go through dark and challenging seasons, do you fix your eyes on the temporary trial, or do you allow the light of Christ’s transfigured glory to guide and strengthen you? May we learn to quiet the noise of the world, truly listen to the Beloved Son, and walk forward with unwavering trust in His eternal victory.
Heavenly Father, on the holy mountain You revealed the transcendent glory of Your Son, Jesus Christ, in the presence of Moses, Elijah, and the apostles. Open our ears to listen to His voice and open our eyes to recognize His divine light guiding our path. When fear, sorrow, or uncertainty shadow our lives, reach out and touch our hearts with Your peace. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus alone, trusting that the trials of this present world are leading us to share in His eternal glory. We place ourselves, our families, and our world into Your hands. Amen. 🙏🏽

FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD: The Feast of the Transfiguration commemorates the moment Jesus revealed His divine glory to Peter, James, and John on Mount Tabor. As He prayed, His face shone like the sun and His clothes became dazzling white. The appearance of Moses (representing the Law) and Elijah (representing the Prophets) signified that Jesus is the fulfillment of all God’s promises. A voice from the cloud—the Father—confirmed His identity: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” This event was given to strengthen the Apostles for the scandal of the Cross, showing them that suffering is not the end, but a path to glory. It reminds us that we are called to be transformed by His light, emerging from the darkness of sin to share in His eternal life.
PRAYER: O God, who in the glorious Transfiguration of Your Only Begotten Son confirmed the mysteries of faith, grant that, listening to the voice of Your beloved Son, we may merit to become co-heirs with Him. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT MARIA FRANCESCA RUBATTO (1844–1904): Born in Italy, Anna Maria Rubatto dedicated her early life to visiting the sick and teaching catechism. Her path to religious life began with an act of mercy: after witnessing a construction worker get injured, she tended to his wounds with such skill and compassion that the local sisters saw in her the ideal leader for their community. She took the name Maria Francesca of Jesus and founded the Institute of the Capuchin Sisters of Mother Rubatto. Driven by missionary zeal, she crossed the Atlantic seven times, establishing missions across South America to serve the marginalized. She died in Montevideo, Uruguay, on this day in 1904 and was canonized by Pope Francis in 2022. Her life teaches us that true holiness is found in seeing the face of Christ in the suffering and serving them with joyful urgency.
PRAYER: Saint Maria Francesca Rubatto, you recognized the wounds of Christ in the poor and served them with a transfigured heart. Intercede for us, that we may be living witnesses to the light of the Gospel in our daily service to others. Amen. 🙏🏾

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR DIVINE ILLUMINATION, VOCATIONS, AND THE SUFFERING
Heavenly Father, on the holy mountain of Tabor, You revealed the transcendent glory of Your Son, Jesus Christ, and commanded us to listen to Him. As His face shone like the sun and His garments became white as light, You gave us a glimpse of the heavenly glory that awaits all who walk in His ways. Through the powerful intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Maria Francesca Rubatto, and all the Saints, we lift our prayers to You today. We pray for our Holy Father, the clergy, and all who lead Your Church, that they may be beacons of Your divine light in a dark world. Grant an increase in holy vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We pray for all Christians facing persecution, for the conversion of sinners, and for healing upon the sick and dying—especially those suffering from cancer and terminal illnesses. Lord, look upon those experiencing deep difficulties, the poor, and the needy; transform their sorrows into joy through Your divine presence. Bless our families and our world with the peace, love, and unity that flow from Your transfigured glory. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF AUGUST | MONTH OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY: August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, inviting us to reflect on her pure love, deep sorrow, and unwavering obedience to God. Her heart, aflame with charity and pierced by suffering, mirrors the life of Christ and calls us to follow Him more closely through her example. This month, the Church encourages us to console her sorrowful heart and grow in holiness through prayers like the Rosary, the Litany of the Immaculate Heart, and the First Saturday Devotion. Through Mary’s heart, we are led ever closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
“O Immaculate Heart of Mary, be our refuge and the way that leads us to God.”
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us and draw us into deeper love and trust in your Son. Amen. 🙏🏽
