Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
Today, as we gather on the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, our hearts and reflections are centered foremost on the holy Gospel, where Jesus challenges us through the parable of the two sons to look beyond empty words and embrace authentic obedience to God’s will. As we also celebrate the Feast of Saint Vincent de Paul, the great apostle of charity and father of the poor, we are beautifully reminded of what it means to put that divine will into active, radical practice. Anchored in God’s merciful justice and the inspiring witness of Saint Vincent, let us open our hearts to genuine repentance and selfless service today.

Twenty-sixth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time | Sunday, September 27, 2026
Reading 1: Ezekiel 18:25-28
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 25:4-5, 6-7, 8-9
Reading 2: Philippians 2:1-11
Gospel: Matthew 21:28-32
Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 21:28-32
“Which of the two did his father’s will?”
“Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people: ‘What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, “Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.” He said in reply, “I will not,” but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, “Yes, sir,” but did not go. Which of the two did his father’s will?’ They answered, ‘The first.’ Jesus said to them, ‘Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.'”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
Today’s readings challenge us to look past empty words and religious posturing, calling us instead to genuine repentance, humility, and authentic obedience to God’s will. In the Gospel, Jesus shares the parable of the two sons: one initially refuses his father’s command but later repents and goes to work in the vineyard, while the other offers a polite “Yes, sir” but does nothing. Jesus uses this sharp contrast to expose the self-righteousness of the chief priests and elders, showing that tax collectors and sinners are entering the kingdom ahead of them because they embraced true conversion when John the Baptist called them. Actions rooted in a changed heart matter far more to God than pious titles.
This theme of personal responsibility, turning away from sin, and choosing the path of righteousness is powerfully reinforced in the First Reading through the prophet Ezekiel, who reminds us that anyone who turns from wickedness and does what is right shall preserve their life. God’s ways are always just, offering mercy and a fresh start to whoever turns back to Him. Saint Paul beautifully mirrors this call to authentic transformation in the Second Reading, urging us to have the very same attitude as Christ Jesus—who, though He was in the form of God, emptied Himself and humbled Himself, becoming obedient to the point of death on a cross. As the Responsorial Psalm guides us to pray: “Remember your mercies, O Lord… He guides the humble to justice, and teaches the humble his way.”
Today, let us examine the sincerity of our daily obedience. Are we merely saying “yes” to God with our lips while our actions remain unchanged, or are we willing to repent, humble ourselves, and genuinely labor in His vineyard? How can you turn away from areas of stubbornness or pride today and align your actions more truly with God’s loving commands?
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your endless patience and Your readiness to forgive us whenever we turn back to You. Forgive us for the times our words of faith have fallen short of our actions, or when pride has kept us from humble repentance. Grant us the mind and attitude of Christ Jesus, who humbled Himself out of boundless love for us. Guide us in Your truth, teach us Your paths, and help us to labor faithfully in Your vineyard each day. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL, PRIEST: Saint Vincent de Paul was born on April 24, 1581 in Pouy, France, into a poor farming family. Gifted with intelligence and perseverance, he pursued studies with the Franciscans and was ordained a priest at the age of 19. At first, he sought a comfortable life within the priesthood, but a profound encounter with a dying peasant’s confession awakened in him a lifelong compassion for the poor. In 1605, during a sea voyage, Vincent was captured by pirates and sold into slavery in Tunis. His captivity lasted two years until his eventual escape after converting his master to Christianity. This experience deepened his faith and sense of mission. Returning to France, he began ministering to galley slaves, impoverished peasants, and the sick.
In 1625, he founded the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) to preach the Gospel in rural areas and train clergy. With Saint Louise de Marillac, he co-founded the Daughters of Charity, a revolutionary community of women dedicated to serving the poor outside cloistered walls. Together, they established hospitals, orphanages, and homes for the elderly, bringing dignity and hope to countless lives. Vincent became a key reformer in the Church of 17th-century France, opposing the heresy of Jansenism and renewing priestly formation. He embodied the Gospel mandate of charity, turning faith into action with remarkable humility. At his death on September 27, 1660, he left behind a spiritual legacy that transformed the Church’s approach to charity and pastoral care. Canonized in 1737, he was later proclaimed patron of charitable works by Pope Leo XIII. His example continues to inspire works of mercy worldwide, particularly through the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, founded in 1833 by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam.
Motto of Saint Vincent de Paul: “God sees you. Let us love God; but at the price of our hands and sweat of our face.”
PRAYER: Loving God, You raised up Saint Vincent de Paul as a faithful servant of the poor and a reformer of Your Church. Through his intercession, grant us hearts of compassion and hands eager for service. Strengthen those who work among the suffering and inspire us to see Christ in the least of our brothers and sisters. May we imitate his humility, zeal, and charity, and one day share in the joy of Your eternal kingdom. Amen. 🙏🏾

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER | MONTH OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS: September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, inviting us to unite our hearts with Mary in her profound sharing of Christ’s Passion. As Simeon foretold, “a sword will pierce your own soul too” (Luke 2:35), and throughout her life Mary endured deep sorrows that culminated at Calvary. In her silent strength and unwavering faith, she became the compassionate Mother of all Christians, offering her suffering with Christ for the salvation of the world.
This month, the Church calls us to meditate on the Seven Sorrows of Mary: Simeon’s prophecy, the Flight into Egypt, the loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple, meeting Jesus on the way to Calvary, standing at the foot of the Cross, receiving His lifeless Body, and placing Him in the tomb. By reflecting on these sorrows, we learn patience in trials, compassion for the suffering, and a deeper love for Jesus who suffered for us.
Prayers such as the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows, the Rosary of Our Lady of Sorrows, and the Litany of Our Lady of Sorrows help us to walk with Mary in her suffering and to discover hope and consolation in her maternal heart.
“Most Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, teach us to stand with you at the Cross, sharing in Christ’s love and redemptive sacrifice.”
Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us. Amen 🙏🏾
