Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
Today, the Church also celebrates the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, today is also the Feast of Our Lady Queen of Angels of Portiuncula, alongside Saint Peter Julian Eymard, Saint Eusebius of Vercelli, Saint Stephen I, Saint Giustino Maria Russolillo, and Blessed Jane of Aza. In today’s liturgy, we are invited to taste the boundless generosity of God. The prophet Isaiah calls all who are thirsty to come to the waters without cost, while Saint Paul reminds us that nothing in all creation can ever separate us from the love of God. In the Gospel, Jesus’ heart is moved with pity for the crowds, and He turns five loaves and two fish into a feast that satisfies thousands. This same divine love and mercy flow through today’s feast days, in the Portiuncula indulgence of Our Lady Queen of Angels, offering complete spiritual renewal; in Saint Peter Julian Eymard’s deep devotion to the Holy Eucharist; and in the heroic fidelity of Saint Eusebius, Pope Saint Stephen I, Saint Giustino, and Blessed Jane of Aza. As we bring our hunger and small offerings to the Lord today, may we trust that in His hands, our lives are blessed, broken, and multiplied to feed a spiritually hungry world.

Reading 1: Isaiah 55:1-3
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 145:8-9, 15-16, 17-18
Reading 2: Romans 8:35, 37-39

Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 14:13-21
“Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied.”
“When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, ‘This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.’ Jesus said to them, ‘There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.’ But they said to him, ‘Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.’ Then he said, ‘Bring them here to me,’ and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over—twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In today’s Gospel, Jesus receives news of the death of John the Baptist and tries to withdraw to a deserted place. Yet, when the crowds follow Him, His grief turns to deep compassion. Looking at their needs, He cures their sick and miraculously multiplies five loaves and two fish to feed over five thousand people. When the disciples feel overwhelmed and urge Jesus to send the people away, Jesus challenges them: “Give them some food yourselves.” He asks us to bring whatever small resources, talents, or efforts we have, no matter how inadequate they seem, and place them in His hands. In Christ’s hands, our small offerings are blessed, broken, and multiplied beyond measure.
In the First Reading, the prophet Isaiah extends God’s generous invitation to a world hungering for true life: “All you who are thirsty, come to the water… Come, without paying and without cost!” God reminds us that earthly wealth cannot satisfy the deepest desires of the human heart; only His eternal covenant can nourish us fully. The Responsorial Psalm proclaims this divine abundance, declaring, “The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs.” In the Second Reading, Saint Paul reassures us that no hardship, persecution, or lack can ever separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Today’s readings invite us to bring our hunger, thirst, and feelings of inadequacy to the Lord. Whether we are facing grief, spiritual emptiness, or material hardship, God promises to meet us with His overflowing grace. May we trust in His boundless providence and allow Him to use our small gifts to feed a hungry world.
Heavenly Father, You are the giver of all good gifts, satisfying the desire of every living thing. Forgive us for the times we focus on our limitations instead of Your infinite power and generosity. Take our lives, our humble efforts, and our small gifts, bless them, and multiply them for Your glory. Help us to share Your abundance with those in need, confident that nothing in all creation can ever separate us from Your love in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

OUR LADY QUEEN OF ANGELS OF PORTIUNCULA: This title of Our Lady is tied to the little chapel of Portiuncula, the heart of Franciscan life and where St. Francis of Assisi received his vocation. It was here that the Portiuncula Indulgence originated first granted by Pope Honorius III in 1216 inviting the faithful to seek total forgiveness through Confession, Communion, and prayer. The feast is one of mercy, simplicity, and renewal.
PRAYER: Queen of Angels and Mother of Mercy, lead us ever deeper into the mystery of grace. May we, like Francis, love without measure and trust without fear. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT PETER JULIAN EYMARD (1811–1868): A French priest devoted to the Eucharist, Saint Peter Julian founded the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. He believed that the Eucharist is the key to all renewal, both personal and societal. His work spread the practice of Eucharistic Adoration, encouraging the faithful to make reparation and find healing in the presence of Christ.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, may we find in Your Eucharistic Heart the strength to love, the courage to serve, and the grace to endure. Through Saint Peter Julian, deepen our hunger for You. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT EUSEBIUS OF VERCELLI (c. 283–371): As bishop of Vercelli, Eusebius was a fierce defender of the Nicene faith during the Arian crisis. He helped pioneer communal priestly life and suffered exile for upholding Christ’s divinity. He is remembered as a shepherd who fought error without compromising love.
PRAYER: God of Truth, grant us the courage to stand firm like Eusebius in times of confusion. May our words and actions reflect Your eternal Word. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT STEPHEN I, POPE AND MARTYR (d. 257): Pope Stephen I upheld the dignity and unity of the Church during a time of severe persecution. He defended the validity of sacraments administered by heretical ministers and was ultimately martyred while celebrating Mass, seated on his chair in the catacombs.
PRAYER: O Good Shepherd, who gave us Saint Stephen as a model of fearless leadership, grant us the strength to worship even when it costs us everything. May we never take for granted the freedom to believe. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT GIUSTINO MARIA RUSSOLILLO (1891–1955): Founder of the Society of Divine Vocations, Saint Giustino dedicated his life to promoting and guiding vocations, especially among the poor. He believed each person has a divine calling and worked tirelessly to awaken that truth in young hearts.
PRAYER: Jesus, Divine Master, awaken in every heart the call to holiness. Through Saint Giustino, help us recognize and encourage the gifts You’ve placed in others. Amen. 🙏🏾
BLESSED JANE OF AZA (12th century): The mother of Saint Dominic, Jane of Aza is remembered for her visionary dream of a dog with a torch in its mouth symbolizing her son’s future fire of preaching. She surrendered her motherhood to God’s will and raised a saint through prayer, humility, and faith.
PRAYER: Gracious God, we thank You for holy mothers like Blessed Jane. May all parents guide their children toward You with wisdom and grace. Amen 🙏🏾

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF AUGUST | MONTH OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY: August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, inviting us to reflect on her pure love, deep sorrow, and unwavering obedience to God. Her heart, aflame with charity and pierced by suffering, mirrors the life of Christ and calls us to follow Him more closely through her example. This month, the Church encourages us to console her sorrowful heart and grow in holiness through prayers like the Rosary, the Litany of the Immaculate Heart, and the First Saturday Devotion. Through Mary’s heart, we are led ever closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
“O Immaculate Heart of Mary, be our refuge and the way that leads us to God.”
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us and draw us into deeper love and trust in your Son. Amen. 🙏🏽

May the profound mysteries of the Cross, the cleansing power of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and the enduring fire of the Holy Spirit continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Heart of our Redeemer shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times.
