Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today, the Church celebrates the Memorial of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, Bishop, along with Saint Magloire, Abbot. Saint Anthony Mary Claret, founder of the Claretians, was a weaver turned fearless missionary and publisher who spent his life cultivating souls through the word of God and the Catholic press. Saint Magloire likewise poured out his life into cultivating monastic communities in Sark and Brittany, bringing forth a rich harvest of faith. Their fruitfulness reflects today’s Gospel, where Jesus shares the parable of the patient gardener pleading for the barren fig tree—granting it another season of grace to be cultivated and bear fruit. As Saint Paul reminds us in the First Reading that Christ equips each of us with unique gifts to build up the Body of Christ, let us embrace this day of grace to turn to God in true repentance and grow into spiritual maturity.

🙏🏽 A PRAYER FOR OUR HOLY FATHER, POPE LEO XIV 🙏🏽🤍

According to the Vatican News Pope Leo XIV has officially been discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and has returned safely to the Vatican, recovering well ahead of initial schedules following his lung surgery. We give thanks for his successful discharge and continue to hold Pope Leo XIV in our prayers for his complete healing, restored strength, and continued good health. Amen 🙏🏾.

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Saturday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time | Saturday, October 24, 2026
Reading 1:
Ephesians 4:7-16
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 122:1-2, 3-4ab, 4cd-5
Gospel: Luke 13:1-9

Gospel Reading ~ Luke 13:1-9

“Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future.”

“Some people told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices. He said to them in reply, ‘Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans? By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did! Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem? By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!’ And he told them this parable: ‘There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none, he said to the gardener, “For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. So cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?” He said to him in reply, “Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.”‘”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

Today’s readings speak powerfully of God’s patient mercy, the urgent necessity of personal repentance, and our shared responsibility to build up the Body of Christ. In the Gospel, when news of tragedy and sudden death is brought to Jesus, He dismantles the common misconception that earthly suffering is a direct punishment for personal sin. Instead, He uses these tragic events as an urgent wake-up call for everyone: “If you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!” Jesus then shares the parable of the barren fig tree. While justice demands that a fruitless tree be cut down, the patient gardener pleads for more time to cultivate and fertilize it. This gardener represents Christ Himself, who intercedes for us and grants us another season of grace to bear spiritual fruit.

To bear good fruit, we must grow in spiritual maturity within the Christian community. In the First Reading, Saint Paul explains that Christ has gifted each member of the Church with specific spiritual graces and roles—as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—to equip us for ministry and build up the Body of Christ. We are called to leave behind spiritual infancy, live the truth in love, and grow into the full stature of Christ. Joined together as one body, every supporting part contributes to our mutual growth in love. As the Responsorial Psalm joyfully proclaims: “Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord… Jerusalem, built as a city with compact unity.”

Today, let us examine the fruitfulness of our lives. Are we utilizing the season of grace God has mercifully extended to us, or are we taking His patience for granted? How can you respond to Christ’s patient cultivation today by bearing fruits of repentance, love, and service within your community?

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your endless patience and the gift of another day to turn back to You in true repentance. Forgive us for the times we have been spiritually barren or judged others instead of examining our own hearts. Cultivate our souls with Your grace and fertilize our minds with Your truth, so that we may bear rich fruit for Your Kingdom. Equip us through Your Holy Spirit to serve one another, living the truth in love and building up the Body of Christ in unity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINTS OF THE DAY | OCTOBER 24TH:

Direct link to the detailed history of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, and Saint Magloire | https://dailyreflectionswithphilomena.com/saints-of-the-day-feast-day-october-24th/

SAINT ANTHONY MARY CLARET, BISHOP: St. Anthony Mary Claret (1807–1870) was a Spanish archbishop, weaver, tireless missionary, and founder of the Claretians (Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary). Ordained in 1835, he spent a decade preaching missions throughout Spain before founding his congregation in 1849. Appointed Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba, he enacted sweeping spiritual and social reforms amidst severe persecution. Recalled to Spain as confessor to Queen Isabella II, he established libraries, schools, and a Catholic publishing house, producing hundreds of books. A champion of Catholic press and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, he participated in the First Vatican Council before dying in exile in France. He was canonized in 1950 and is the patron saint of weavers, the Catholic press, savings banks, and foundations.

PRAYER: God, You strengthened St. Anthony Mary with wondrous love and patience in evangelizing the people. Through his intercession, enable us to seek those things that are Yours, and to labor in Christ for the good of our fellow human beings. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT MAGLOIRE, ABBOT: St. Magloire (c. 500–575 A.D.) was born in Wales to noble lineage and educated under St. Illtud. After serving as an abbot in Brittany for 52 years, he succeeded his cousin, St. Samson, as Bishop of Dol. Guided by an angelic vision after two years, he resigned his bishopric to live a life of prayer and quiet contemplation, establishing a monastery on the island of Sark. He governed his monks with holiness and introduced Christianity to the island, where he is venerated as its patron saint.

PRAYER: Almighty God, who called Saint Magloire to leave worldly honors and cultivate a life of holiness and monastic prayer, grant that through his intercession we may seek Your quiet presence and bear lasting spiritual fruit. Amen. 🙏🏽

HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
Alongside Saint Anthony Mary Claret and Saint Magloire, we also honor: SAINT BERNARD OF CALVO, SAINT CADFARCH, SAINT ELASBAAN, SAINT EVERGISLUS, SAINT FROMUNDUS, SAINT JOSEPH THI, SAINT LUIGI GUANELLA, SAINT MARCIUS, SAINT MARTIN OF VERTOU, MARTYRS OF NAGRAN, AND SAINT SENOCH. May their faithful lives inspire our own journey today.

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR THE CATHOLIC PRESS, WEAVERS, CLARETIAN MISSIONARIES, SAVINGS BANKS, AND SPIRITUAL FRUITFULNESS

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the zealous life of Saint Anthony Mary Claret and the humble monastic witness of Saint Magloire. Through the intercession of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, patron of the Catholic press, weavers, savings banks, and foundations, we pray for all Catholic journalists, publishers, and media workers, asking that their work may boldly proclaim Your truth. Bless all text workers, weavers, and financial institutions, guiding them in integrity and justice. Through Saint Magloire, patron of Sark, bless all monastic communities and island populations. Lord, cultivate the soil of our hearts today, forgive our past fruitlessness, and grant us grace to repent, build up the Body of Christ in love, and bear rich spiritual fruit for Your Kingdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER | MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY: October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, a powerful prayer that draws us into the heart of the Gospel through the eyes of Mary. The Rosary is more than repetition, it is a meditation on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, united with the loving presence of His Blessed Mother. As Pope St. John Paul II reminded us, the Rosary is “a compendium of the Gospel,” helping us to contemplate Christ’s face with Mary.

The twenty mysteries of the Rosary, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous, invite us to journey with Christ from His Incarnation to His Passion and His triumph over death. Each mystery opens us to God’s saving love, strengthens our faith, and leads us to imitate the virtues of Jesus and Mary in our daily lives. This month, the Church invites us to renew our devotion to the Rosary by praying it daily, whether alone, in families, or in community. Through it, we find peace in times of trial, strength against temptation, and deeper trust in God’s providence. Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, intercedes for us and leads us always to her Son.

“O Mary, our Blessed Mother and Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, teach us to pray with a pure heart and a steadfast spirit. As we meditate on the mysteries of Christ, help us to grow in faith, hope, and love. Intercede for us before your Son, that our families, our Church, and our world may be filled with peace and the light of the Gospel. Amen.” 🙏🏽
