Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today, the Church marks The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day), alongside the memorial of Blessed John Bodey, Martyr. Today’s observance calls us into deep spiritual solidarity with all who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, particularly the souls in Purgatory awaiting the fullness of heavenly glory. Blessed John Bodey’s heroic life reminds us of the eternal weight of glory that awaits those who remain faithful to Christ through earthly trials. In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers us supreme comfort, declaring that it is the Father’s absolute will that He lose nothing of what was given to Him, but raise every believer on the last day. As the Book of Wisdom reassures us that the souls of the just are safely in the hand of God, let us offer our prayers today with great hope and love for our departed brothers and sisters.

Gospel Reading ~ John 6:37-40

“This is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”

“Jesus said to the crowds: ‘Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.'”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

Today, on the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day), the Church turns her heart with immense tenderness and filial duty to pray for all who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, especially the Holy Souls undergoing purification in Purgatory. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks words of profound, unshakable consolation: “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me.” Our Lord reveals the compassionate heart of God—a Heavenly Father whose absolute desire is that not a single soul entrusted to Christ be lost, but that all who believe in the Son be raised up to eternal life on the last day.

This radiant assurance of eternal life echoes through all of today’s readings. In the First Reading from the Book of Wisdom, we are reminded that although the passing away of the righteous may seem like utter destruction to human eyes, “their souls are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them… their hope is full of immortality.” In the Second Reading, Saint Paul reassures us that our Christian hope never disappoints because God proved His infinite love while we were still helpless sinners. Through our baptism into Christ’s death, we are freed from the power of sin and granted the firm belief that as Christ was raised, we too shall share in His resurrection. Comforted by the Good Shepherd of Psalm 23 who leads us even through the valley of darkness, we find hope in the mercy that prepares an eternal dwelling place for all God’s children.

Today, let us reflect on our duty of charity toward the deceased and our own readiness for eternity. How faithfully do we offer our prayers, sacrifices, and Holy Masses for the relief and entrance of the Holy Souls into heavenly glory? How can you perform a quiet act of prayerful intercession today for the souls of your departed family members, friends, and the most forgotten souls in Purgatory?

Heavenly Father, God of all consolation, we thank You for the invincible promise of eternal life revealed in Your Son, Jesus Christ. On this All Souls’ Day, we humbly entrust into Your merciful hands all the faithful departed. Forgive them their sins, cleanse every remnant of human frailty, and grant that the souls of all the faithful departed, through Your boundless mercy, may rest in peace. Comfort all who grieve with the firm hope of the resurrection, and guide us daily to walk in holiness until we are reunited in Your eternal Kingdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINTS OF THE DAY | NOVEMBER 2ND:

THE COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED (ALL SOULS’ DAY): Today, following the Solemnity of All Saints, the Church turns her prayerful attention to All Souls’ Day—a sacred day dedicated to remembering and interceding for all the holy souls undergoing purification in Purgatory. Grounded in Sacred Scripture (2 Maccabees 12) and ancient Christian tradition, our prayers, alms, and especially the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass assist these souls so they may enter the full beatific vision of God in heaven. Established in the 11th century by Saint Odilo of Cluny, this day highlights our enduring spiritual communion with our departed loved ones and our shared hope in the resurrection.

PRAYER: Merciful God, graciously hear our prayers. As we believe that Your Son rose from the dead, so strengthen our faith in the resurrection of all Your servants, and grant the souls of all the faithful departed eternal rest. Amen. 🙏🏽

BLESSED JOHN BODEY, MARTYR: Blessed John Bodey (1549–1583) was an English schoolmaster, former Oxford Fellow, and married layman. Stripped of his fellowship for his Catholic faith, he was arrested in 1580 for rejecting the Royal Supremacy of the English crown over Christ’s Church. Enduring three years in irons—which he humbly called his “school of patience”—he was condemned for treason and suffered martyrdom by being hanged, drawn, and quartered on November 2, 1583. He was beatified in 1929 as one of the Martyrs of England and Wales.

HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
Alongside The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day) and Blessed John Bodey, Martyr (Blessed John Bodey), we also honor: SAINT VICTORINUS OF PETTAU, SAINT ACYNDINUS, SAINT AMICUS, SAINT CARTERIUS, SAINT JORANDUS, SAINT JUSTUS OF TRIESTE, SAINT MARCIAN, SAINT MAURA, AND SAINT THEODOTUS. May their faithful lives inspire our own journey today.

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY, DEPARTED LOVED ONES, EDUCATIVE INTEGRITY, AND FAITHFUL PERSEVERANCE

Heavenly Father, God of all consolation, on this All Souls’ Day we place into Your hands all the faithful departed, especially our deceased family members, friends, and the most forgotten souls in Purgatory. Through the infinite merits of Christ’s Sacrifice on the Cross, cleanse them of all remnants of sin and grant them eternal rest in Your divine light. Through the intercession of Blessed John Bodey, martyr and schoolmaster, bless all teachers and educators, and grant courage to Christians facing religious persecution around the world. Good Shepherd, lead our departed loved ones to the restful waters of eternal life, raise them up on the last day, and bring us all safely to Your heavenly kingdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER: For the proper use of wealth. Let us pray for the proper use of wealth, that not succumbing to the temptation of selfishness, it may always be put at the service of the common good and solidarity of those who have less.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER | MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS: November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory, a month of prayerful remembrance for all the faithful departed who await the joy of Heaven. The Church calls us to intercede for them through our prayers, sacrifices, and Masses, trusting in God’s mercy to purify their souls and welcome them into eternal light. These souls, known as the Church Suffering, are united with the Church Triumphant in Heaven and the Church Militant on earth, one communion of love bound together in Christ.

This devotion is beautifully expressed in the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day) on November 2, which follows the Solemnity of All Saints on November 1. As the liturgical year draws to a close, the Church invites us to reflect on eternity, on the hope of resurrection and the promise of Heaven. Each prayer offered for the departed becomes an act of mercy that brings comfort to their souls and strengthens our own journey toward holiness.

“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.” 🙏🏽
