Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
Today, the Church celebrates the Memorial of Saint Henry II, Emperor, together with Saint Anacletus (Pope and Martyr), Saint Mildred (Religious), Saint Clelia Barbieri (Religious), and Saint Eugenius (Bishop). On this day, the Holy Scriptures issue a powerful summons to undivided loyalty and authentic holiness. In the First Reading, the prophet Isaiah delivers God’s stirring rebuke against empty, ritualistic worship, demanding instead a faith that shows itself in real action, redressing the wronged, defending the orphan, and seeking justice for the widow. In the Gospel, Jesus lays out the radical cost of true discipleship, reminding us that following Him requires taking up our cross and placing Him above every earthly attachment and comfort. The saints we commemorate today are living witnesses to this total surrender: from Saint Henry II, who used his imperial crown not for self-glory but to serve the poor and reform the Church; to Saint Anacletus and Saint Eugenius, who led the faithful with unshakable courage through fierce persecution; to Saint Mildred and Saint Clelia Barbieri, who renounced worldly status to dedicate their lives to humility, prayer, and serving the needy. As we step into this new day, let us ask for the grace to strip away all hypocrisy, embrace our daily crosses, and offer God a sacrifice of sincere praise and righteous living.
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings for Monday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time | July 13, 2026
Reading 1: Isaiah 1:10-17
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 50:8-9, 16bc-17, 21, 23
Gospel: Matthew 10:34—11:1
Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 10:34—11:1
“Whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
“Jesus said to his Apostles: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s enemies will be those of his household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is righteous will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple– amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.” When Jesus finished giving these commands to his Twelve disciples, he went away from that place to teach and to preach in their towns.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In today’s Gospel, Jesus presents us with the uncompromising cost and radical priority of authentic discipleship. He speaks directly to the reality that following Him will bring division—a “sword”—even within our most intimate relationships, because the demands of the Gospel often clash with worldly comfort, family pressures, and societal expectations. Christ makes it clear that no earthly affection, not even the love we hold for parents, children, or closest friends, can take precedence over our devotion to Him. To be worthy of Him, we are called to take up our cross daily and embrace the paradox of the Kingdom: whoever clings tightly to earthly security will lose true life, but whoever surrenders their life for Christ’s sake will discover eternal vitality. Yet, alongside this sharp call to surrender, Jesus offers profound encouragement: every act of welcome, hospitality, and support given to His disciples—even something as small as a cup of cold water—holds immense weight in the eyes of the Father and will never go unrewarded.
According to the Gospel, true peace is not the mere absence of conflict or the compromise of truth for the sake of quietness. It is easy to slide into a superficial faith that seeks approval from everyone around us, but Jesus warns that staying faithful will sometimes create friction with those we love most. This passage challenges us to evaluate our primary allegiance. Are we holding back from standing up for God’s truth because we fear disapproval, rejection, or the awkwardness of being different? When we prioritize pleasing human beings over obeying Christ, we dilute our witness and lose our spiritual edge. Jesus invites us to step into the freedom of total surrender, trusting that when we place Him above all else, our capacity to love others with pure, selfless, and holy love is actually restored and elevated.
In the first reading, the prophet Isaiah delivers a piercing rebuke from the Lord against empty, ritualistic religion that is detached from moral integrity. Addressing the people with the jarring title “princes of Sodom” and “people of Gomorrah,” God expresses His utter tiredness with superficial sacrifices, lavish festivals, and multiplication of prayers when they are offered with hands stained by injustice and sin. While the Israelites brought abundance to the altar, God rejected their worship because their lives outside the temple lacked justice, mercy, and truth. This powerful passage exposes the danger of separating our spiritual practices from our moral actions, warning us that we can fall into the exact same trap today whenever we fulfill our religious duties while ignoring the vulnerable or harboring malice. God does not want empty routines or outward appearances; He desires a complete transformation of the heart and daily conduct: “Wash yourselves clean! Cease doing evil; learn to do good. Make justice your aim: redress the wronged, hear the orphan’s plea, defend the widow.”
The Responsorial Psalm proclaims: “To the upright I will show the saving power of God.” This psalm directly echoes Isaiah’s message, reminding us that God does not need our physical offerings or lip service, but rather our obedience, discipline, and sincere praise. It warns against reciting God’s statutes with our mouths while casting His commands behind our backs, affirming that those who walk in integrity and offer genuine praise will experience the fullness of God’s salvation.
Reflecting on the words of the Sacred Scriptures today, we are invited to inspect the authenticity of our walk with Christ. Are there areas where you have compromised your Christian values just to keep the peace or gain the favor of those around you? Have your prayers and spiritual activities become routine habits while your heart remains distant from practicing real justice, charity, and forgiveness? Are you willing to embrace the discomfort of carrying your cross today, trusting that losing yourself for Christ is the only way to truly find yourself? Let us lay down all hypocrisy and worldly fear at the feet of Jesus. May we seek first His righteousness, welcome His messengers with joy, and live with undivided hearts that honor Him in both word and deed.
Lord Jesus, grant me the courage to put You above all else in my life, even when it costs me comfort, approval, or peace with the world. Purify my heart and my worship, so that my prayers may never be empty routines, but living sacrifices pleasing in Your sight. Help me to take up my cross daily, to fight against hypocrisy, and to seek justice for the poor, the weak, and the forgotten. Give me the grace to offer love and hospitality to those who represent You, and keep me faithful to the end. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT HENRY II, EMPEROR: Saint Henry II (972–1024), Duke of Bavaria, King of Germany, and later crowned Holy Roman Emperor, was a ruler guided by profound faith and justice. Though raised amid political strife, he was shaped spiritually by Saint Wolfgang and long considered a vocation to the priesthood before discerning his path in leadership. With his holy wife, Saint Cunigunde, he ruled with integrity, built churches and monasteries, and gave generously to the poor. Known for his chastity, wisdom, and humility, he sought always to align his reign with God’s will. Even in illness, he remained steadfast, desiring at one point to retire into monastic life. He was canonized in 1146.
Patron of: the childless, physically challenged, Benedictine Oblates, and those rejected by religious orders.
PRAYER: Almighty God, You guided Saint Henry to govern with justice and holiness. Through his intercession, may we place Your kingdom first in all we do and live with trust and generosity. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT ANACLETUS, POPE AND MARTYR: Saint Anacletus, also known as Cletus, was the third successor of Saint Peter and led the Church during a time of violent persecution under Emperor Domitian. He ordained many priests, established early Roman parishes, and emphasized the sacredness of public ordination and apostolic succession. Known for his wisdom, courage, and tireless encouragement to persecuted Christians, he died a martyr’s death and was buried near Saint Peter. His steadfast leadership helped strengthen the early Church amid trial.
PRAYER: Saint Anacletus, you served the Church with courage and faith under persecution. Pray for our leaders, that they may shepherd God’s people with boldness and compassion. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT MILDRED, RELIGIOUS: Saint Mildred, an English royal turned abbess, was a model of humility, patience, and miraculous holiness. As a young woman, she endured harsh trials at the Abbey of Chelles, including being cast into a burning oven but miraculously emerged unharmed. Upon returning to England, she served as abbess of Minster-in-Thanet, known for her charity to the poor and her deep prayer life. Her legacy of compassion and healing lived on for centuries through her relics and the miracles associated with them.
PRAYER: Gentle Saint Mildred, teach us the value of humility, perseverance, and holy courage. May we, like you, serve the Lord with gentleness and strength. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT CLELIA BARBIERI, RELIGIOUS: Saint Clelia Barbieri, born in 1847, is the youngest founder of a religious congregation in Church history. Despite poverty and personal loss, she radiated holiness from a young age and founded the Little Sisters of the Mother of Sorrows at just 21. She died of tuberculosis at 23, yet her spirit lives on, especially through the mysterious phenomenon of her voice being heard in her religious communities even after death. Canonized by Pope John Paul II, she continues to inspire young people to serve with joy and simplicity.
Patron of: Catechists, Little Sisters of the Mother of Sorrows, and those mocked for their piety.
PRAYER: O Saint Clelia, radiant with youthful holiness and courage, inspire us to serve the poor and teach the faith with joyful love. May your voice echo in our hearts as we proclaim Christ. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT EUGENIUS, BISHOP: Saint Eugenius was elected Bishop of Carthage during a volatile time when Arianism divided the Church. Despite bans, imprisonment, and multiple exiles under Vandal rule, he refused to close the Church’s doors to anyone seeking Christ. His faithful leadership, stirring letters, and willingness to suffer for the faith earned him the love of his people and the admiration of even his enemies. He died in exile in France in 505, his legacy preserved in the lives he touched and the miracles at his tomb.
PRAYER: Brave Saint Eugenius, shepherd of truth in an age of heresy and persecution, pray for all who suffer for the faith today. Strengthen us to stand firm in Christ’s truth. Amen. 🙏🏽
Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Henry II, Saint Anacletus, Saint Mildred, Saint Clelia Barbieri, Saint Eugenius, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽
HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw profound inspiration today from the righteous governance and humility of Saint Henry II, the early apostolic guidance of Saint Anacletus, the gentle monastic holiness of Saint Mildred, the youthful foundress devotion of Saint Clelia Barbieri, and the steadfast, courageous faith of Saint Eugenius, we also turn our hearts to the rest of the holy assembly sharing this July 13th feast day. Today, we prayerfully honor and remember BLESSED CARLOS MANUEL RODRIGUEZ SANTIAGO, SAINT DOGFAN, BLESSED FERDINANDO MARIA BACCILIERI, SAINT FRANCIS SOLANO, BLESSED MARIANO DE JESUS EUSE HOYOS, SAINT MYROPE, SAINT SERAPION, SAINT SILAS, SAINT TERESA DE LOS ANDES, BLESSED THOMAS TUNSTAL, AND SAINT TURIAF. Spanning across centuries and continents, from early apostolic companions and ancient martyrs to heroic missionaries in the Americas, dedicated parish priests, and contemplative Carmelite saints, their diverse lives all beautifully reflect the multifaceted grace of God. Remembering them reminds us that we are supported by an incredibly vast family of faith, encouraging us to follow their example and walk our own path toward holiness with confidence today.
PRAYER INTENTION: SINCERE WORSHIP, UNWAVERING FIDELITY, AND HEALING MERCY
Heavenly Father, You call us to a faith that is pure, undefiled, and rooted in total surrender. As we lay our daily responsibilities, studies, and personal trials at Your feet today, we ask for the grace to pick up our cross daily and place our love for You above every earthly comfort and attachment. Through the powerful intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary and the holy saints we commemorate on this feast day, Saint Henry II (Patron of childless people, the disadvantaged, and the physically challenged), Saint Anacletus (Pope and Martyr), Saint Mildred (Patron against fevers and example of gentleness), Saint Clelia Barbieri (Patron of catechists and those ridiculed for their piety), and Saint Eugenius (Bishop and defender of the faith), we humbly bring our prayers before You. We ask You to bless all married couples, especially those trusting You for the fruit of the womb; grant them the gift of children and restore hope to their hearts. We pray for all families, that You may grant peace, love, and unity in our homes while shielding us from division. We bring before You the poor, the needy, the rejected, and those going through deep financial or emotional hardship during these challenging times. Lord, extend Your divine healing upon the sick and dying, especially those suffering from cancer, tuberculosis, and other terminal or lingering illnesses, granting them comfort and physical restoration. We continue to pray for the Universal Church, our Holy Father, the Clergy, and all persecuted Christians across the world, asking that You grant them the courage to stand firm in righteousness despite every trial. Finally, we pray for the conversion of sinners and for all believers, that we may wash ourselves clean from all hypocrisy, defend the vulnerable, and offer You a sacrifice of upright and joyful praise. Amen. 🙏🏽

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF JULY: For respect for human life. Let us pray for the respect and protection of human life in all its stages, recognizing it as a gift from God.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JULY | MONTH OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ a profound devotion that honors the redeeming power of Christ’s Blood shed for our salvation. Flowing from His Sacred Heart, this Blood is the price of our redemption, the source of grace in the sacraments, and the seal of the New Covenant. It reminds us that salvation was not won lightly, but through the ultimate sacrifice of love. This month, the Church invites us to meditate on the infinite value of Christ’s Blood poured out during His Passion from Gethsemane to Calvary and in every celebration of the Holy Eucharist. We are called to offer acts of reparation for the sins of the world and to intercede for the conversion of souls. Devotions such as the Litany of the Precious Blood, the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, and daily consecration to the Precious Blood help deepen our union with Christ crucified.
As Saint John Chrysostom once said, “The Precious Blood is the salvation of souls; it purifies, sanctifies, and strengthens.” In our trials, let us take refuge beneath the cross, trusting in the Blood that speaks of mercy, victory, and eternal life.
“Precious Blood of Jesus, save us and the whole world.”
O Most Precious Blood of Jesus, fountain of salvation, we adore You. Wash us clean of sin, protect us from evil, and draw us into deeper love and union with You. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of July to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Cross, the cleansing power of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and the enduring fire of the Holy Spirit continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Heart of our Redeemer shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
