Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
Today, the Church celebrates the Friday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time, together with the Memorial of Saint Charbel Makhlouf, Priest and Hermit, Saint Christina of Bolsena, Virgin and Martyr, and Saint Christina the Astonishing. Today’s liturgy calls us to cultivate rich soil within our hearts so that God’s Word may take deep root and yield an abundant harvest, trusting in our Heavenly Father who gathers, restores, and guards us as a shepherd guards his flock. This total surrender to God is strikingly lived out in today’s saints, in Saint Charbel, who embraced silent solitude, poverty, and Eucharistic adoration in the mountains of Lebanon; in Saint Christina of Bolsena, who bore heroic witness through severe torments to defend her faith; and in Saint Christina the Astonishing, whose extraordinary life of penance became a witness to God’s redemptive mercy. May we clear away the weeds of worldly anxiety today and allow God’s grace to transform our lives.

Today’s Bible Readings for Friday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time | July 24, 2026
Reading 1: Jeremiah 3:14-17
Responsorial Psalm: Jeremiah 31:10, 11-12abcd, 13
Gospel: Matthew 13:18-23
Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 13:18-23
“But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”
“Jesus said to his disciples: “Hear the parable of the sower. The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the Kingdom without understanding it, and the Evil One comes and steals away what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.””
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers His disciples a clear and detailed explanation of the Parable of the Sower, illuminating how the disposition of the human heart dictates the fruitfulness of God’s Word. The seed, which represents the Word of the Kingdom, is divine, living, and full of potential, yet its growth depends on the soil upon which it falls. Jesus identifies four distinct heart conditions: the hard path where indifference allows the Evil One to snatch away the truth; the rocky ground where initial enthusiasm quickly fades under pressure or trial; the thorny soil where worldly anxieties and the deceitfulness of wealth choke out spiritual growth; and finally, the rich soil. The rich soil represents the open, receptive heart that absorbs the Word, nurtures it through perseverance, and yields an abundant harvest of thirty, sixty, or a hundredfold.
This profound parable calls us to recognize that spiritual fruitfulness is not a matter of passive reception, but of active, daily cultivation. Jesus warns us against the subtle dangers that threaten our spiritual lives lack of understanding, shallow roots, and the suffocating pressures of material success and worry. To be rich soil requires intentional effort: we must clear away the rocks of pride, pull up the weeds of fear and distraction, and allow the Holy Spirit to soften our hearts so that God’s Word can strike deep roots, transforming our character and inspiring acts of genuine love and obedience.
In the first reading, the prophet Jeremiah delivers a beautiful message of divine restoration, calling out to a straying Israel: “Return, rebellious children, says the LORD, for I am your Master.” Despite their past infidelity, God promises to gather His scattered people, bring them back to Zion, and appoint shepherd-leaders after His own heart who will guide them with wisdom and prudence. God looks beyond physical symbols like the Ark of the Covenant to a future where His presence fills all Jerusalem, uniting all nations in holiness and freeing His people from hardhearted wickedness. This passage reveals God’s relentless mercy and His desire to shepherd us back into true communion whenever we wander.
The Responsorial Psalm echoes this comforting reality of divine care, exultantly proclaiming: “The Lord will guard us as a shepherd guards his flock.” The psalmist paints a joyful picture of redemption where mourning is turned into joy, sorrow is gladdened, and God’s people stream toward the abundance of His blessings. It reminds us that our God is not a harsh judge, but a loving Shepherd who ransoms, protects, and consoles us through every season of life. When we place our trust in Him, we find the strength to rise above life’s trials and rejoice in His enduring goodness.
Reflecting on the Sacred Scriptures today, we are invited to audit the current state of our inner soil. Which type of ground best describes your heart right now? Have daily stress, academic or career worries, or material ambitions begun to act as thorns that choke out your prayer life and reflection on God’s Word? Or have recent hardships made your heart rocky and hesitant to trust fully in the Lord? Today, let us answer God’s tender invitation to return to Him, allowing His shepherding grace to cultivate our hearts into rich, fertile soil that bears lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
Lord Jesus, You are the Divine Sower who generously scatters the life-giving seed of Your Word into our hearts. Forgive us for the times we have allowed distractions, anxieties, and the pursuit of worldly wealth to choke Your grace within us. Clear away the hardness and rocks of our hearts, and water our souls with Your Holy Spirit so that we may be rich soil, hearing, understanding, and living Your truth with perseverance. Shepherd us according to Your heart, turn our sorrows into joy, and make our lives yield a fruitful harvest for Your glory. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT CHARBEL MAKHLOUF (1828–1898): Born Youssef Antoun Makhlouf in the mountains of Lebanon, Saint Charbel entered monastic life at age 23 and later embraced the eremitical life for over two decades. Deeply devoted to the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin Mary, he lived in silence, poverty, and intense prayer. After his death on Christmas Eve in 1898, many miracles were reported at his tomb, earning him the title “Miracle Monk of Lebanon.” Canonized in 1977, he is the Patron Saint of Lebanon and a model of contemplative holiness.
PRAYER: O God, who called Saint Charbel to a life of solitude and prayer, grant us through his intercession the grace to imitate his deep love for You and for the Eucharist. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT CHRISTINA OF BOLSENA (3rd century): A noble virgin who destroyed her father’s pagan idols, Saint Christina endured beatings, fire, snakes, and torture with heroic endurance. An angel saved her from drowning, and she ultimately gave her life for Christ after surviving many trials. Her relics now rest in Palermo, Sicily.
PRAYER: O Virgin and Martyr Christina, strengthen us to defend our faith with courage. Intercede for the sick, the persecuted, and those in spiritual danger. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT CHRISTINA THE ASTONISHING (1150–1224): Declared dead at 21, she stunned her mourners by rising at her funeral, claiming to have visited heaven, hell, and purgatory. Choosing to return and suffer for souls in purgatory, she lived a life of extreme penance. Misunderstood by many, she became a patron for those with mental illness and a witness to God’s mysterious mercy.
PRAYER: Saint Christina the Astonishing, help us embrace suffering with redemptive purpose. Pray for all afflicted in mind and spirit. Amen. 🙏🏾
HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw deep inspiration today from the miraculous, contemplative solitude of Saint Charbel Makhlouf, the unyielding, heroic faith of Saint Christina of Bolsena, and the extraordinary, mystical devotion of Saint Christina the Astonishing, we also turn our hearts to the rest of the holy assembly sharing this July 24th feast day. Today, we prayerfully honor and remember SAINT JOHN BOSTE, SAINT DECLAN, SAINT DICTINUS, SAINT GODO, BLESSED JOSEPH FERNANDEZ, SAINT KINGA OF POLAND, SAINT KUNDEGUNDA, SAINT LEWINA, BLESSED MARIA ANGELES OF SAINT JOSEPH, BLESSED MARIA MERCEDES PRAT, BLESSED MARIA PILAR MARTINEZ GARCIA & COMPANIONS, SAINT MENEFRIDA, SAINTS MENEUS & CAPITO, BLESSED MODESTINO OF JESUS AND MARY, BLESSED NICEFORO OF JESUS AND MARY, SAINTS NICETA AND AQUILINA, SAINT URSICINUS, SAINTS VICTOR, STERCNTIUS, AND ANTIGONES, SAINT VINCENT, AND SAINTS WULFHADE & RUFFINUS. Spanning across centuries, from early Roman and British martyrs to holy royal queens, dedicated Celtic bishops, monastic founders, and courageous modern Spanish martyrs, their diverse lives all beautifully reflect the multifaceted grace of God. Remembering them reminds us that we belong to an incredibly vast family of faith, encouraging us to follow their example and walk our own path toward holiness with confidence today.

PRAYER INTENTION: REDEMPTIVE MERCY, HEALING, AND PERSEVERANCE
Heavenly Father, You are the Divine Shepherd who gathers Your scattered children, turns our mourning into joy, and waters our hearts with the life-giving seed of Your Word. As we go about our work, studies, and personal trials today, grant us the grace to cultivate rich soil in our souls so that we may bear fruit through patience and perseverance. Through the loving intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Charbel Makhlouf (Patron of Lebanon and seeker of contemplative holiness), Saint Christina of Bolsena (Patroness against bodily harm, sailors, and archers), and Saint Christina the Astonishing (Patroness of those with mental illness, mental health workers, psychiatrists, and therapists), we humbly present our prayers. We ask Your divine comfort and protection for all widows, expectant mothers, those trusting You for the fruit of the womb, and women in labor; we place into Your hands the sick and dying, especially those suffering from cancers, terminal illnesses, and mental health struggles, begging for Your healing and restoring touch. Lord, provide for the poor, the needy, and all facing hardship, bestowing Your peace, love, and unity upon our families and our world. Protect the Universal Church, sustain our Pope and Clergy, shield persecuted Christians, and grant the grace of true conversion to sinners everywhere. May the holiness, courage, and penance of Your saints inspire us to walk uprightly with You today. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JULY | MONTH OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ a profound devotion that honors the redeeming power of Christ’s Blood shed for our salvation. Flowing from His Sacred Heart, this Blood is the price of our redemption, the source of grace in the sacraments, and the seal of the New Covenant. It reminds us that salvation was not won lightly, but through the ultimate sacrifice of love. This month, the Church invites us to meditate on the infinite value of Christ’s Blood poured out during His Passion from Gethsemane to Calvary and in every celebration of the Holy Eucharist. We are called to offer acts of reparation for the sins of the world and to intercede for the conversion of souls. Devotions such as the Litany of the Precious Blood, the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, and daily consecration to the Precious Blood help deepen our union with Christ crucified.
As Saint John Chrysostom once said, “The Precious Blood is the salvation of souls; it purifies, sanctifies, and strengthens.” In our trials, let us take refuge beneath the cross, trusting in the Blood that speaks of mercy, victory, and eternal life.
“Precious Blood of Jesus, save us and the whole world.”
O Most Precious Blood of Jesus, fountain of salvation, we adore You. Wash us clean of sin, protect us from evil, and draw us into deeper love and union with You. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of July to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Cross, the cleansing power of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and the enduring fire of the Holy Spirit continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Heart of our Redeemer shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
