Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today, the Church celebrates the Friday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time, together with the Memorial of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Priest, and Saint Germanus, Bishop of Auxerre. As we mark the final day of the month of July, our hearts overflow with gratitude to God for His unceasing grace, protection, and faithfulness throughout these past weeks. In today’s liturgy, Jeremiah stands firm in the Lord’s house despite threats, while Jesus encounters skepticism in His hometown. Both readings challenge us to recognize and embrace God’s truth, even when it demands radical conversion. This commitment is lived out in today’s saints, in Saint Ignatius of Loyola, who laid aside military fame to found the Society of Jesus “for the greater glory of God,” and in Saint Germanus of Auxerre, who exchanged high political office for a life of prayer and bold defense of the faith. As July comes to a close, may we yield our hearts fully to God’s divine call.

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings for Memorial of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Priest | Friday, July 31, 2026
Reading 1: Jeremiah 26:1-9
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 69:5, 8-10, 14
Gospel: Matthew 13:54-58

Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 13:54-58

“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house.”

“Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, ‘Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?’ And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house.’ And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith.”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In today’s Gospel, Jesus returns to Nazareth, His hometown, but instead of welcoming His divine message, the people become offended by His familiarity. Knowing Him merely as “the carpenter’s son,” their lack of faith blocks them from recognizing the wisdom and power of God standing before them. Unbelief creates a barrier to grace, limiting the mighty deeds God desires to work in our lives. Jesus reminds us that familiarity can easily breed spiritual blindness if we fail to see God at work in the ordinary and among those closest to us.

In the First Reading, the prophet Jeremiah faces a similar rejection as he speaks God’s urgent message of repentance in the temple. Because the truth challenges their comfortable habits, the priests and leaders turn against him, crying out that he should be put to death. The Responsorial Psalm captures the cry of the faithful servant facing opposition: “Zeal for your house consumes me… Lord, in your great love, answer me.” Like Jeremiah and ultimately Jesus Himself, speaking and living God’s truth often brings misunderstanding or hostility, yet we are called to remain steadfast.

Today’s readings invite us to examine our own hearts. Do we allow familiarity or preconceptions to close our eyes to how God is speaking to us today? May we cultivate open hearts, free from hardness and skepticism, so that the Lord may work His mighty deeds in and through our daily lives.

Lord God, grant us the grace of open and receptive hearts. Forgive us for the times we have limited Your power in our lives through our own doubt, pride, or spiritual blindness. Give us the courage of Jeremiah to proclaim Your truth without fear, and the humility to recognize Your presence in the ordinary moments and people around us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA, PRIEST (1491–1556): Born into Spanish nobility, Saint Ignatius was a soldier seeking worldly fame until a cannonball injury altered his life. During his recovery, reading the Lives of the Saints and the Life of Christ sparked a profound spiritual conversion. He renounced his former life and composed the Spiritual Exercises, a classic guide for prayer and discernment. With companions like St. Francis Xavier, he founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), dedicated to education, missionary work, and total obedience to the Pope. Serving as its first Superior General, Ignatius directed the order’s rapid expansion. Canonized in 1622 and declared Patron of Spiritual Retreats by Pope Pius XI, his legacy endures in the Jesuit motto: Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (“For the greater glory of God”).

PRAYER: O God, who raised up Saint Ignatius of Loyola in Your Church for the greater glory of Your Name, grant that we may labor as he did with hearts wholly given to You. Help us to discern Your will in all things and serve You with generous love. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT GERMANUS, BISHOP OF AUXERRE (C. 378–448): Born to a noble Gallo-Roman family, Saint Germanus was a brilliant lawyer and imperial governor in Gaul. In an unexpected turn of divine providence, the local bishop tonsured him into the clergy, and Germanus embraced this call, being unanimously elected Bishop of Auxerre in 418. He adopted a life of deep prayer, personal penance, and tireless service to the poor. Germanus traveled as far as Britain to combat the Pelagian heresy and boldly confronted barbarian kings to protect his people. He died peacefully in Ravenna in 448, leaving a lasting legacy of courage and pastoral care across Roman and Celtic lands.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You called Saint Germanus from worldly prestige to shepherd Your Church in holiness. Help us to detach from earthly pride, cling to the eternal truth of Christ, and remain bold defenders of the Gospel. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: MONTH-END GRATITUDE, DISCERNMENT, AND PROTECTION

Heavenly Father, as we come to the final day of this month of July, we lift our voices in humble gratitude for Your constant mercy, provision, and guidance through every single day. Thank You for sustaining us, protecting our families, and carrying us through every challenge. As we prepare to enter a new month, grant us the grace to hear Your voice, the courage to speak Your truth, and hearts devoted entirely to Your glory. Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Ignatius of Loyola (Patron of soldiers and spiritual retreats), and Saint Germanus of Auxerre, we bring our prayers to You. Protect all military personnel and first responders; guide retreatants, spiritual directors, and those seeking clarity in discernment; and touch the sick and dying, especially those with cancer and terminal illnesses, with Your healing hand. Bring peace and unity to our homes, comfort the poor, shield persecuted Christians, and lead all sinners back to You. Keep us steadfast in faith as we step into August. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JULY | MONTH OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ a profound devotion that honors the redeeming power of Christ’s Blood shed for our salvation. Flowing from His Sacred Heart, this Blood is the price of our redemption, the source of grace in the sacraments, and the seal of the New Covenant. It reminds us that salvation was not won lightly, but through the ultimate sacrifice of love. This month, the Church invites us to meditate on the infinite value of Christ’s Blood poured out during His Passion from Gethsemane to Calvary and in every celebration of the Holy Eucharist. We are called to offer acts of reparation for the sins of the world and to intercede for the conversion of souls. Devotions such as the Litany of the Precious Blood, the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, and daily consecration to the Precious Blood help deepen our union with Christ crucified.

As Saint John Chrysostom once said, “The Precious Blood is the salvation of souls; it purifies, sanctifies, and strengthens.” In our trials, let us take refuge beneath the cross, trusting in the Blood that speaks of mercy, victory, and eternal life.

“Precious Blood of Jesus, save us and the whole world.”

O Most Precious Blood of Jesus, fountain of salvation, we adore You. Wash us clean of sin, protect us from evil, and draw us into deeper love and union with You. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of July to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Cross, the cleansing power of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and the enduring fire of the Holy Spirit continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Heart of our Redeemer shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽

Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint Germanus of Auxerre, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you! Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us. Amen 🙏🏽
