Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
“Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.” Alleluia! Welcome to this beautiful Saturday! Today, the Church pairs Scripture with the radical witness of Saint Norbert of Xanten and Saint Marcellin Champagnat. Norbert abandoned his wealthy, worldly noble life after surviving a terrifying lightning strike to become a fierce defender of the Eucharist. Marcellin Champagnat overcame severe educational setbacks to found the Marist Brothers, wearing out his health to provide spiritual education to neglected youth. Both saints proved that true faith demands our absolute all. Today also marks the First Saturday of the month, a day traditionally dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, inviting us to offer prayers of reparation and to seek her motherly intercession for the world. In today’s Gospel (Mark 12:38–44), Jesus sits opposite the treasury and completely upends the world’s standard of worth. He warns his disciples to beware of the scribes, who parade around in long robes and chase public honors while using religion as a masking pretext. In sharp contrast, Jesus honors a poor widow who quietly drops two tiny coins into the box. While the rich give out of their excess, Christ declares that she gave more than them all because she contributed from her poverty, offering her whole livelihood and withholding nothing. The First Reading (2 Timothy 4:1–8) shows this total surrender in action. Writing from prison on the brink of execution, Saint Paul charges us to preach the Word persistently, whether convenient or highly inconvenient. Declaring his own life is being poured out like a sacrificial libation, Paul confidently finishes his race and awaits his heavenly crown, anchoring us in today’s Responsorial Psalm: “I will sing of your salvation.”
The Kingdom of God measures your offering not by its size, but by what you choose to hold back. Are you giving God your leftover time and convenient obedience, or are you offering Him your entire livelihood? Are you living for worldly applause like the scribes, or are you quietly pouring your life out for the truth?
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Ninth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Saturday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time | June 6, 2026
Reading I: 2 Timothy 4:1–8
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 71:8–9, 14–15AB, 16–17, 22
Gospel: Mark 12:38–44
Gospel Reading ~ Mark 12:38–44
“She, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.”
In the course of his teaching Jesus said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets. They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext, recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation.” He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, “Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Christ completely upends the world’s standard of worth, shifting our gaze from the theatrical performance of religious elites to the absolute, vulnerable surrender of a nameless widow. This reflection centers on The Exposure of Religious Hypocrisy and the Measure of Total Sacrifice. Sitting opposite the temple treasury, Jesus explicitly warns His disciples to beware of the scribes, who use their long robes, social greetings, and long, theatrical prayers as a masking pretext while devouring the houses of vulnerable widows. In stark contrast to these predatory leaders, Christ highlights a poor widow who quietly drops two tiny copper coins into the collection box. While the wealthy throw in massive amounts from their excess, Jesus declares that this woman has contributed vastly more than them all. Christ exposes the truth that the Kingdom of God measures a gift not by its monetary size, but by what the giver holds back. By offering her entire livelihood from a place of deep poverty, she exhibits absolute trust in Divine Providence, choosing to withhold nothing from the Creator.
The First Reading provides an unyielding, triumphant blueprint for walking out this same standard of total abandonment to God, presenting The Charge to Persistent Witness and the Finish Line of Faith. Writing from a dark Roman cell on the absolute brink of execution, Saint Paul issues an urgent, solemn charge to Timothy in the very presence of God and Christ Jesus. Knowing that a time is rapidly approaching when people will reject sound doctrine to accumulate teachers who accommodate their selfish desires and myths, Paul commands him to preach the Word with unshakeable persistence, whether it is convenient or highly inconvenient. He models the ultimate posture of self-surrender, declaring that his own life is already being poured out like a sacrificial libation. Having fiercely competed, completed his race, and kept the faith, Paul looks past the finality of an earthly execution block, confidently anticipating the crown of righteousness that the Lord, the just judge, will personally award to him and to all who long for His glorious appearance.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 71) beautifully mirrors this long life of absolute dependence and uncompromised proclamation, standing as a patient hymn of continuous hope, singing: “I will sing of your salvation.” The psalmist begs the Creator not to cast him off or forsake him in old age as his physical strength inevitably fails. Instead, he vows to praise the Lord more and more, filling his mouth with divine glory day by day. This text captures the exact spirit of a seasoned workman of God who treats the mighty works of the Lord and His singular justice as his ultimate anchor. Having been taught by the Master from youth, the faithful heart resolves to continually declare those wondrous deeds with the music of the lyre and harp, rejoicing in the absolute faithfulness of the Holy One of Israel.
As we bring this week to a close, let us take a searching inventory of what we are truly holding back from God. Reflect today: Are you serving God from your “surplus wealth” giving Him your leftover time, distracted energy, and convenient obedience or are you offering Him your entire livelihood and absolute trust? Are you trapped by a desire for social recognition, long robes of self-righteousness, and public honors like the scribes, or are you quietly pouring your life out as a pure libation for the truth? Are you persistently standing by sound doctrine even when it is highly inconvenient, competing well in your spiritual race?
Let us pray: Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Just Judge who sees past our outward performances to weigh the real intentions of our hearts. Forgive us for the times we have offered You our mere leftovers while holding back our deepest trust, our security, and our families. Strip away from our homes every trace of religious pretexts, vanity, and the desire for worldly applause. Grant us the spirit of the poor in spirit, that we may trust Your provider’s hand completely. Give us the supernatural endurance of Saint Paul to run our race without wavering and to proclaim Your word persistently, whether convenient or inconvenient. Do not cast us off as our human strength fails, but keep us singing of Your salvation until we stand before You to receive that unfading crown of righteousness. You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT NORBERT OF XANTEN, BISHOP: Saint Norbert of Xanten (c. 1080–1134 A.D.), also known as Norbert Gennep, was a worldly German nobleman who underwent a radical conversion to become the Archbishop of Magdeburg and the holy founder of the Premonstratensian Order (the Norbertines). In his youth, Norbert pursued secular pleasure and even entered the ecclesiastical state with a completely worldly spirit, refusing higher ordination out of fear of moral restraint. His life shifted instantly when a sudden stroke of lightning spooked his horse, knocking him completely senseless; upon regaining consciousness, he entered a retired, penitential life to prepare for the priesthood. He resigned his wealth, sold his properties for the poor, and walked from place to place preaching radical penance. Settling in Prémontré, he established a thriving order of canons regular and was later appointed Archbishop of Magdeburg, where he enforced strict reforms despite fierce opposition from corrupt locals. Celebrated as the “Apostle of the Blessed Sacrament” for his intense Eucharistic defense against heresies, Norbert combated church schisms alongside Saint Bernard, dying of a severe four-month illness after returning from an imperial journey to Rome.
PRAYER: O God, who made the Bishop Saint Norbert a servant of Your Church outstanding in his prayer and pastoral zeal, grant, we ask, that by the help of his intercession, the flock of the faithful may always find shepherds after Your own heart and be fed in the pastures of salvation. Protect all expectant mothers, granting them safe delivery during childbirth, and fill our homes with Your enduring peace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT MARCELLIN CHAMPAGNAT, RELIGIOUS: Saint Marcellin Champagnat (1789–1840 A.D.) was a tireless French priest, a member of the Society of Mary, and the foundational architect of the Little Brothers of Mary (now known as the Marist Brothers). Born near Lyons during the violent eruption of the French Revolution, Marcellin grew up working on a peasant farm, receiving a deep devotion to Mary from a religious aunt. Having left school at age seven, he discovered his vocation at fourteen and had to begin his basic education entirely from scratch, struggling through minor seminary against the pessimistic advice of those around him. Ordained in 1816 alongside his close friend Saint Jean-Marie Vianney, his pastoral focus was permanently solidified after encountering a dying young boy who was totally ignorant of the Catholic faith. Driven to save the next generation from religious neglect, he founded his congregation in 1817 to educate uncultured youth. Living in abject poverty and working with an immense workload that ultimately wore out his health, Marcellin famously structured his school calendar around farming seasons to accommodate the poorest families, teaching them to live by his holy maxim: “All to Jesus through Mary, and all to Mary for Jesus.”
PRAYER: Holy Spirit, You filled Saint Marcellin Champagnat with a burning heart to proclaim the Gospel and protect vulnerable youth from spiritual ignorance. Grant us his unyielding capacity for work, his profound trust in Divine Providence, and his tender love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. Help our families to remain sensitive to the educational and spiritual needs of the neglected around us, that we may bring all souls to Jesus through Mary. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw deep inspiration today from the reforming leadership of Saint Norbert of Xanten and the compassionate educational legacy of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, we also lift our hearts to the entire cloud of witnesses sharing this June 6th feast day. Today, we prayerfully honor and remember SAINT AGOBARD, SAINT ALEXANDER, SAINT AMANTIUS, SAINT BERTRAND, SAINT BRANWALLADER, SAINT CERATIUS, SAINT CLAUD, SAINT COCCA, SAINT EUSTORGIUS II, SAINT FILIPPO SMALDONE, SAINT GOTTESCHALK, SAINT GUDWAL, SAINT JARLATH, BLESSED JOHN DAVY, SAINT JOHN OF VERONA, BLESSED MARIA KARLOWSKA, SAINT MARIAM THRESIA CHIRAMEL MANKIDIYAN, THE MARTYRS OF TARSUS, SAINT NILAMMON, SAINT PHILIP THE DEACON, SAINT RAFAEL GUIZAR VALENCIA, BLESSED ROBERT SALT, SAINT VINCENT OF BEVAGNA, AND BLESSED WALTER PIERSON. Remembering them reminds us that we belong to a vast, unbroken family of faith, encouraging us to boldly live out our own devotion exactly where we are today.

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR COMPLETE SELF-SURRENDER, EUCHARISTIC ADORATION, AND ZEAL FOR TRUTH
On this Saturday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time, we declare that our mouths shall be filled with Your praise and Your glory day by day. Cast us not off when our human strength fails, but grant us the grace to always hope and praise You ever more and more. We pray for a spirit of total sacrifice and complete reliance on Your providence; Lord, deliver us from the hypocrisy of the scribes who seek public honor and earthly pretexts. Grant us the radical trust of the poor widow who held nothing back, but offered her entire livelihood into Your hands. Teach us to give to You not out of our surplus or leftover time, but out of a heart of absolute surrender. We pray for an intense Eucharistic devotion and the protection of families; through the powerful intercession of Saint Norbert of Xanten (Patron Saint of peace, invoked during childbirth for safe delivery; Kingdom of Bohemia, and Magdeburg), ignite within our souls a deep hunger for Your presence in the Eucharist. We lift up all expectant mothers, begging for Your divine intervention for a safe delivery. Bring true reconciliation and structural peace to our households, and reform our hearts so that we may never find security in worldly honors, but only in Your presence. We pray for the spiritual formation of youth and persistent faith; through the loving prayers of Saint Marcellin Champagnat (Patron Saint of education, youth, catechists, and Marist Brothers), grant us a burning heart to teach the truth and defeat spiritual ignorance. Give us his unyielding capacity for work to serve the most neglected, and the persistence of Saint Paul to proclaim sound doctrine whether convenient or inconvenient. Help us to empty ourselves of pride, becoming truly poor in spirit, so that our families may finish our spiritual race well and inherit the Kingdom of heaven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JUNE | MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS: June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a powerful sign of Christ’s love and mercy. His Heart, pierced and crowned with thorns, burns with compassion for all humanity. This devotion calls us to return love for love to console His Heart and make reparation for sin and indifference. Rooted in the revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Church invites us this month to deepen our trust in Jesus, especially through First Friday devotions, the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and acts of consecration. His words echo in our hearts: “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29).
The Sacred Heart shows us what true love looks like patient, humble, and self-giving. In a world often cold and restless, we find peace and healing in His Heart.
“Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You”
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, teach us to love as You love. Fill our hearts with compassion, mercy, and a deep desire to follow You. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of June to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Resurrection, the Ascension, and the fresh fire of the Holy Spirit, which we have so beautifully celebrated, continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Most Holy Trinity shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽
