Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
Alleluia! May they all be one as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that the world may believe that you sent me, says the Lord. Alleluia! Today, as we observe Day Seven of the Novena to the Holy Spirit, the Church unveils the unshakeable security of a life anchored in Christ’s personal prayer and divine protection. Walking with us today is a heroic cloud of witnesses: Saint Christopher Magallanes and his twenty-four Companions, fearless Mexican priests and laymen who faced down firing squads with the cry of “Long live Christ the King!” on their lips; and Saint Eugene de Mazenod, a noble French refugee who survived a bitter parental divorce and family ruin to become a holy bishop and the patron saint of fractured households. In today’s Gospel, Christ reaches the breathtaking climax of His High Priestly Prayer, looking across two thousand years of history to pray explicitly for us: “I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one.” Jesus draws us directly into the interior love of the Trinity, declaring that our ultimate destiny is to overcome worldly chaos and behold His eternal glory. We see this supernatural protection in action in the First Reading. When Saint Paul stands trial before the fractured Sanhedrin, he brilliantly navigates their theological divisions, crying out that he is on trial for his hope in the resurrection. In the ensuing uproar, he is nearly torn apart, but the Lord stands directly by his side that very night, whispering: “Take courage. For just as you have borne witness to my cause in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness in Rome.” Our saints beautifully manifested this unshakeable courage. Saint Christopher Magallanes forgave his executioners from a prison cell, knowing his blood would sow seeds of peace, while Saint Eugene de Mazenod turned away from worldly wealth to find absolute refuge at the foot of the Holy Tabernacle. As we pray our Novena today, let us step into the security of the Responsorial Psalm: “Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.” Christ has already prayed for your victory; take courage and finish your course! Amen. 🙏🏽

Today’s Bible Readings: Thursday of the Seventh Week of Easter | May 21, 2026
Reading I: Acts 22:30; 23:6–11
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 16:1–2a and 5, 7–8, 9–10, 11
Gospel: John 17:20–26
Gospel Reading ~ John 17:20–26
“I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one.”
Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: “I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Christ reaches the magnificent crescendo of His High Priestly Prayer, expanding His divine vision across time and space to encompass the entire future Church. This reflection centers on the Gift of Trinitarian Unity and Communion. Jesus makes a breathtaking declaration: “I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word.” Across two thousand years of history, Jesus looked through time and explicitly prayed for us. The standard of unity He demands for His followers is not a mere diplomatic compromise or human consensus; it is a direct reflection of the absolute, seamless oneness shared between the Father and the Son. By giving us His divine glory, Jesus draws us directly into the interior life of the Godhead, transforming the Church into a visible, living proof of the Father’s love to a watching world.
This passage also highlights the ultimate purpose of our existence: The Vision of Divine Glory. Jesus reveals His deepest longing for His followers, stating, “Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory.” We are not random accidents; we are precious gifts from the Father to the Son. Christ’s prayer ensures that our earthly struggles are not the final chapter. He desires our ultimate exaltation to behold the eternal glory given to Him before the foundation of the world, and to be entirely filled with the very same love that the Father has for the Son.
The First Reading provides a striking, real-world contrast to this divine unity, showing how the Holy Spirit can navigate and utilize intense human division to protect the messengers of the Gospel. Standing on trial before the fractured Sanhedrin, Saint Paul recognizes the deep theological rift between his accusers. With brilliant apostolic strategy, he cries out: “My brothers, I am a Pharisee… I am on trial for hope in the resurrection of the dead.” Instantly, a massive theological dispute explodes between the Pharisees, who acknowledge the resurrection, and the Sadducees, who completely deny it. In the midst of the uproar, Paul is nearly torn to pieces, forcing the Roman commander to violently rescue him. Yet, out of that chaotic division, the ultimate reassurance arrives. The following night, the Lord stands directly by Paul’s side and whispers: “Take courage. For just as you have borne witness to my cause in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness in Rome.” Human kingdoms fracture, but God’s sovereign plan remains unshakeable.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 16) beautifully captures this unshakeable security and hope in the face of death and chaos: “Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.” The Psalmist sets the Lord ever before him, confident that with God at his right hand, he will never be disturbed. It serves as a prophetic anthem of the Resurrection, exulting that God will not abandon our souls to the netherworld, nor suffer His faithful ones to undergo corruption, but will instead show us the path to life and the fullness of joys in His presence forever.
As we move through this Thursday, let us find our security in the personal prayer of Christ and the promise of His constant presence. Reflect today: Do you realize that before you were ever born, Jesus lifted His eyes to heaven and prayed specifically for your faith, your endurance, and your unity? When you find yourself surrounded by chaotic division or facing personal trials, do you try to fight in your own strength, or do you take refuge in the Lord, setting Him constantly at your right hand? Can you hear the Lord standing by you in your current anxieties, whispering: “Take courage, your mission is not yet finished”?
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, our Great High Priest, we are deeply humbled to know that Your dying prayer was offered for us. We thank You for drawing us into the perfect love and unity shared between You and the Father. Forgive us for the times we contribute to division within Your mystical Body, the Church. When we face trials, chaotic opposition, or the storms of this life, stand by us as You stood by Saint Paul. Pour out Your Holy Spirit afresh to give us supernatural courage, keep us safe in Your holy refuge, and guide our steps along the path of life until we behold Your eternal glory face to face. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT CHRISTOPHER MAGALLANES AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS: Saint Christopher Magallanes (1869–1927) and his twenty-four companion martyrs were courageous Mexican priests and laymen who shed their blood during the brutal, anti-Catholic persecutions of the 1920s. When an atheistic government banned Holy Mass, closed seminaries, and hunted down clergy to destroy the Catholic faith, Saint Christopher secretly erected a hidden seminary to train priests and continued to minister to his flock in secret. Bound together by their radical love for Christ the King, these twenty-five heroic warriors of the Cristero movement were captured, subjected to severe torture, and executed by firing squads or hanging across multiple states. Facing his executioners with a clear conscience, Christopher loudly shouted from his cell, “I am innocent and I die innocent. I forgive with all my heart those responsible for my death,” offering his life as a seed of peace for his divided homeland.
PRAYER: Almighty and eternal God, You kept Saint Christopher and his Companions faithful to Christ the King even unto undergoing martyrdom. Through their intercession, grant that we may persevere in professing the true Faith, forgive our enemies from our hearts, and always heed the commands of Your love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT EUGENE DE MAZENOD, BISHOP: Saint Eugene de Mazenod (1782–1861) was a noble French aristocrat and the holy Bishop of Marseille who became the heavenly patron of fractured households. Forced to flee the chaos of the French Revolution at age eight, he endured years of poverty as a refugee in Italy. When he returned to France as a young man, he found his family home completely ruined by bitter infighting and an agonizing parental divorce. Rejecting his mother’s intense pressure to marry a wealthy heiress, Eugene chose to enter the seminary to heal the spiritually decimated society. He gathered a band of zealous priests to evangelize the poorest, most neglected countryside populations, founding the global missionary congregation known as the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Appointed Bishop of Marseille, he doubled the number of his priests, repaired ruined sanctuaries, and spent his life with an extraordinary pastoral charity fueled by an intense devotion to the Holy Tabernacle.
PRAYER: God our Father, You filled Saint Eugene de Mazenod, Your bishop, with apostolic virtue in the evangelization of the poor and a resilient heart to endure family brokenness. Fill our hearts with that same fervor, heal all dysfunctional homes, and grant that we may dedicate ourselves entirely to the service of Your Church. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Christopher Magallanes and Companions, and Saint Eugene de Mazenod — pray for us. 🙏🏽
HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw inspiration today from the unyielding courage of Saint Christopher Magallanes and his companion martyrs, alongside the tireless missionary charity of Saint Eugene de Mazenod, we also turn our hearts to the entire cloud of witnesses sharing this May 21st feast. Today, we prayerfully remember and acknowledge SAINT AGUSTIN CALOCA CORTES, SAINT ANSUINUS, SAINT ATILANO CRUZ ALVARADO, SAINT BARRFOIN, SAINT CONSTANTINE THE GREAT, SAINT CRISTOBAL MAGALLANES JARA, SAINT GOLLEN, BLESSED HYACINTHE MARIE CORMIER, BLESSED JENARO SANCHEZ DELGADILLO, SAINT JOSE MARIA ROBLES HURTADO, SAINT MATEO CORREA MAGALLANES, SAINT NICOSTRATUS, ANTIOCHUS, AND COMPANIONS, SAINT POLYEUCTUS, VICTORIUS AND DONATUS, SAINT ROMAN ADAME ROSALES, SAINT SECUNDINUS, SAINT SECUNDUS AND COMPANIONS, SAINT SERAPION THE SINDONITE, SAINT THEOBALD OF VIENNE, SAINTS TIMOTHY, POLIUS AND EUTYCHIUS, SAINT VALENS, AND SAINT ZENO. Spanning across centuries and continents, from early Roman leaders to quiet hidden intercessors, their lives collectively reflect the brilliant, multifaceted light of God’s grace. Remembering them reminds us that no matter where we are planted, we are supported by a vast family of faith and called to leave our own unique mark of love upon the world.
PRAYER INTENTION: FOR TRINITARIAN UNITY, SUPERNATURAL COURAGE IN PERSECUTION, HEALING OF DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILIES, AND RESILIENCE IN TRIALS
On this Thursday of the Seventh Week of Easter, as we ascend into Day Seven of the Novena to the Holy Spirit, we rest in the magnificent assurance of Your High Priestly Prayer. We thank You, Lord Jesus, for looking across time and praying personally for us, your future Church. As we navigate the divisions and trials of this world, we ask for an outpouring of the Advocate to bring us to perfect oneness in You, making Your divine love visible to all humanity. We pray for the preservation of the True Faith, vocations, and for all persecuted Christians; through the intercession of Saint Christopher Magallanes and Companions (Patron Saints of Mexico, the Cristero movement, and persecuted Christians), give us the grace to lift high the banner of Christ the King, even in the face of worldly intimidation or state overreach. Protect our seminarians, double the number of our priests, and grant us a clear conscience to forgive our enemies from our hearts, trusting that our earthly sacrifices serve the peace of Your Kingdom. We pray for the healing, peace, and reconciliation of all broken homes; through the intercession of Saint Eugene de Mazenod (Patron Saint of dysfunctional families, broken marriages, and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate), stretch forth Your hand to heal the trauma of family infighting, bitter divorces, and domestic friction. Protect our youth from the emotional scars of fractured households, and inspire our families to find their security and peace at the foot of Your Holy Tabernacle. We pray for supernatural safety, direction, and strength in times of chaos; just as You stood by Saint Paul in his darkest hour of isolation and commanded him to take courage, stand by us today in our personal anxieties. Keep us safe in Your holy refuge, for You are our allotted portion and our cup. Never suffer our souls to undergo corruption, but guide our steps along the path of life until we behold the eternal glory You possessed before the foundation of the world. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF MAY: That Everyone Might Have Food. Pope Leo invites us to pray that no one might lack the food they need and that we might learn to live more responsibly, recognizing that the earth’s resources are a gift for everyone.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF MAY | MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our spiritual Mother. This month invites the faithful to draw closer to Mary through prayer, reflection, and imitation of her virtues especially her humility, obedience, purity, and unwavering faith. As the first and most perfect disciple of Christ, Mary leads us gently but firmly to her Son. Throughout Church history, May has been a time to honor Mary with special devotions such as the Rosary, May Crownings, Marian processions, and prayers like the Litany of Loreto. The Church teaches that Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, intercedes for us as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church. During this month, we are called to renew our relationship with her and seek her maternal care in our joys, sorrows, and needs. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan with total trust: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her faithful surrender encourages us to say “yes” to God’s will in our own lives. As we meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and contemplate her role in salvation history, we grow in our love for her and our desire to follow Christ more closely.
In this beautiful month of blooming flowers, may our hearts also blossom with deeper devotion to the Mother of our Savior. Let us bring her our prayers, our homes, and our lives, asking her to accompany us with her love and protection.
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
Hail Mary, full of grace! Teach us to love Jesus as you loved Him. Cover us with your mantle of mercy, and help us to walk always in the light of your Son. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this month of May to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this new month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽
Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Christopher Magallanes and Companions, and Saint Eugene de Mazenod ~ Pray for us 🙏🏾
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you! Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us. Amen 🙏🏽
