Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
Alleluia! Your word, O Lord, is truth; consecrate us in the truth. Alleluia! Today, as we observe Day Six of the Novena to the Holy Spirit, the Church dramatically highlights the beauty of a life completely set apart for God’s glory. Standing with us today is Saint Bernardine of Siena, the legendary Apostle of Italy who fearlessly ran into plague-ravaged hospitals to tend the dying, traveled entirely on foot to heal political feuds, and spent his life lifting high the IHS monogram to ignite a global fire of devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus. In today’s Gospel, we listen to the tender heart of Christ in His High Priestly Prayer, explicitly begging the Father: “Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.” Jesus doesn’t ask for us to be taken out of this tough, hostile world, but that we be fiercely protected from the Evil One within it. This call to bold, vigilant shepherding is powerfully mirrored in the First Reading, where Saint Paul tearfully warns the Ephesian elders at Miletus to guard the flock against “savage wolves” before kneeling on the shore to pray a final, moving farewell. Like Saint Bernardine, who refused the high office of bishop three times to remain a humble missionary, Saint Paul poured his life out for the weak, reminding us that “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” As we pray our Novena today, let us stop begging for an easy escape from our daily battles. May we invite the Holy Spirit to deeply consecrate us in the Truth, empowering us to stand firm, live generously, and carry the sweet name of Jesus into the darkest corners of our world! Amen. 🙏🏽

Gospel Reading ~ John 17:11b–19
“Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.”
Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying: “Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one. When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction,
in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you. I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely. I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the Evil One. They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Jesus continues His profound High Priestly Prayer, shifting His focus to the preservation and protection of His disciples who must remain in a hostile environment. This reflection centers on the Reality of Divine Consecration. Jesus requests of His Father: “Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.” To be consecrated means to be set apart, cut off from worldly utility, and completely dedicated to a sacred purpose. Jesus does not petition for an easy escape or a rescue mission from earthly trials, stating explicitly, “I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the Evil One.” True discipleship does not function in isolation; rather, believers are deliberately sent directly back into the very world that hostilely rejects them, permanently anchored by the truth of God’s Word and shielded by Christ’s own self-consecration.
This passage also highlights the call to Supernatural Unity and Joy. Jesus prays that His followers may be one, mirroring the perfect, unbreakable communion shared within the Holy Trinity. This profound unity serves as their primary defense against the spiritual fracturing caused by the enemy. Furthermore, Jesus speaks these intimate divine mysteries openly while still in the world so that His disciples may have His own internal “joy fulfilled in themselves.” This complete joy is not dependent on worldly approval, but on the absolute security of being guarded by the Holy Name of the Father.
The First Reading offers a deeply moving, historical mirror to this priestly farewell as Saint Paul concludes his final address to the Ephesian presbyters at Miletus, emphasizing Apostolic Vigilance and Sacrificial Shepherding. Knowing his departure is absolute, Paul issues a stern, urgent mandate: “Keep watch over yourselves and over the whole flock of which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers.” He realistically warns that “savage wolves” will emerge from both outside and within the community to twist the truth. Paul’s ministry was entirely detached from greed, his own hands labored to support his companions, demonstrating that leaders must tirelessly help the weak. Remembering the words of Jesus, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” Paul kneels down in a tearful, affectionate embrace with his flock before boarding the ship, holding nothing back from the Church acquired by the precious Blood of God.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 68) dynamically responds to these challenges by calling down the triumphant, reinforcing hand of God: “Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth.” It reminds a vulnerable Church that God actively shows forth His power, taking our part from His awesome sanctuary. He sits high above the ancient heavens, sending forth a voice of absolute power to provide strength, security, and majesty to His people as they face wolves and worldly opposition.
As we move through this Wednesday, let us examine our commitment to being set apart for the Gospel. Reflect today: Do you find yourself constantly begging God to take you out of difficult situations, or are you actively praying for the grace to remain consecrated and pure within them? Are you feeding on the Word of God daily so that you can discern the subtle lies of the “savage wolves” that try to twist the truth in your life? How can you practice the sacrificial love of Christ today by remembering that it is truly more blessed to give than to receive?
Let us pray: Holy Father, keep us safely anchored in Your Holy Name, that we may be truly one in heart, mind, and spirit. Consecrate us deeply in Your Truth, and let Your Word be the defensive shield that guards us from the deceits of the Evil One. Give our church leaders the vigilant, sacrificial heart of Saint Paul to protect Your flock from savage wolves. Fill us completely with Your supernatural joy, and grant us the generous grace to pour ourselves out for the weak, knowing that we belong entirely to You. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT BERNARDINE OF SIENA, PRIEST: Saint Bernardine (1380–1444), widely hailed as “the Apostle of Italy,” was a brilliant Franciscan priest who revived the country’s Catholic faith through his fiery, powerful evangelism. Orphaned by age seven, he was raised by a pious aunt who anchored his security in God. At just seventeen, he took charge of a plague-ravaged hospital in Siena, courageously rallying twelve companions to care for the dying until the crisis passed. Discerning a call to the Franciscans of the Strict Observance, he embraced absolute poverty and spent a decade in prayerful solitude before being sent out to preach. Traveling entirely on foot, his eloquent, apostolic preaching drew crowds of tens of thousands to public squares, driving souls to abandon vices, settle political feuds, and turn back to Christ. To replace divisive tribal insignias, Bernardine famously devised the IHS monogram over a blazing sun, sparking a massive global devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus. He steadfastly refused the office of bishop on three separate occasions to remain a humble missionary, passing into eternity on Ascension Eve while his brother friars sang of Christ manifesting God’s Name to the world.
PRAYER: O God, who gave Saint Bernardine an exceeding love for the Holy Name of Jesus, grant through his merits that we may be ever inflamed with the spirit of Your love. Through his intercession, look mercifully upon all who suffer from respiratory illnesses, gambling addictions, and spiritual apathy, filling them with the strength to finish their earthly course with joy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we look to the radiant example of Saint Bernardine of Siena today and reflect on his profound devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus, we also unite our hearts with the wider cloud of witnesses sharing this May 20th feast. Today, we joyfully remember and honor SAINT ANASTASIUS XIII, SAINT AQUILA, SAINT AUSTREGISILUS, SAINT BASILISSA, SAINT BASILLA, SAINT BAUDELIUS, SAINT ETHELBERT, SAINT HILARY, SAINT PLAUTILLA, SAINT SANCTAN, SAINT THALELAEUS, AND SAINT THEODORE OF PAVIA. Though they walked different paths through history, some bearing witness through the quiet devotion of hidden lives, and others through the ultimate sacrifice of martyrdom, they all shine with the same divine light. Remembering them reminds us that holiness takes many beautiful forms, inviting each of us to lift up the name of Christ uniquely in our own daily lives.
PRAYER INTENTION: FOR BOLD EVANGELISM, HEALING OF RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES, TRUE CHRISTIAN UNITY, AND DEVOTION TO THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS
On this Wednesday of the Seventh Week of Easter, as we observe Day Six of the Novena to the Holy Spirit, we step onto the holy ground of Your High Priestly Prayer. We thank You, Lord, for praying for our protection and asking the Father to consecrate us in Your Truth. As we face a world that often rejects Your Word, we ask for a fresh outpouring of the Advocate to keep us unified, vigilant against spiritual dangers, and burning with apostolic zeal. We pray for all evangelists, preachers, media practitioners, and the spread of the Gospel; through the intercession of Saint Bernardine of Siena (Patron Saint of advertisers, advertising, publicists, against hoarseness, communications, compulsive or uncontrolled gambling, gambling addicts, lungs, public relations, chest, respiratory, or lung problems, Aquila, Italy, the diocese of San Bernardino, California, and Italy), fill the messengers of Your Word with supernatural wisdom, eloquence, and a tongue that no adversary can resist. May all public relations and media platforms be used purely for Your honor, to break down social divisions, and to point humanity toward the saving light of Christ. We pray for the sick, the broken, and those battling internal chains; grant Your divine mercy to all who are struggling to breathe, those suffering from terminal lung conditions, and those battling the silent, destructive grip of compulsive gambling and addiction. Grant them physical healing, restore their spiritual lungs, and replace their heavy anxieties with Your deep, conquering peace. We pray for our families, church leaders, and for an end to division; just as Saint Paul tearfully knelt on the shores of Miletus to commend his flock to Your grace, we pray for the protection of our local parishes against the savage wolves of false doctrines and tribal factions. Keep us tightly bound in a spirit of brotherly charity, and help us to replace our personal rivalries with the glorious logo of Your love, always remembering that it is far more blessed to give than to receive. Finally, we pray for an absolute consecration in the Truth; set us apart from the corrupting patterns of this world, and let Your Name be our ultimate shield. As we labor through our daily trials, give us the grace to lift high the name of Jesus, confident that whoever accepts Your divine call will be adorned with every gift of the Spirit needed to fulfill their task. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF MAY: That Everyone Might Have Food. Pope Leo invites us to pray that no one might lack the food they need and that we might learn to live more responsibly, recognizing that the earth’s resources are a gift for everyone.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF MAY | MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our spiritual Mother. This month invites the faithful to draw closer to Mary through prayer, reflection, and imitation of her virtues especially her humility, obedience, purity, and unwavering faith. As the first and most perfect disciple of Christ, Mary leads us gently but firmly to her Son. Throughout Church history, May has been a time to honor Mary with special devotions such as the Rosary, May Crownings, Marian processions, and prayers like the Litany of Loreto. The Church teaches that Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, intercedes for us as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church. During this month, we are called to renew our relationship with her and seek her maternal care in our joys, sorrows, and needs. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan with total trust: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her faithful surrender encourages us to say “yes” to God’s will in our own lives. As we meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and contemplate her role in salvation history, we grow in our love for her and our desire to follow Christ more closely.
In this beautiful month of blooming flowers, may our hearts also blossom with deeper devotion to the Mother of our Savior. Let us bring her our prayers, our homes, and our lives, asking her to accompany us with her love and protection.
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
Hail Mary, full of grace! Teach us to love Jesus as you loved Him. Cover us with your mantle of mercy, and help us to walk always in the light of your Son. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this month of May to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this new month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽
