Greetings and blessings, beloved family.

Alleluia! The Spirit of truth will testify to me, says the Lord, and you also will testify. We begin this new week, with hearts wide open to the movement of the Holy Spirit. As we journey through these final weeks of Easter, the Church introduces us to two remarkable figures of witness and prayer: Saint Francis di Girolamo, the tireless Apostle of Naples who sought Christ in the most forgotten corners of society, and Saint Mammertus, the holy bishop whose intercession and Rogation prayers turned community trials into opportunities for grace. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of the Dual Testimony. He promises to send the Advocate, the Spirit of Truth, to testify within us, but He also gives us a mission: “And you also testify.” He warns us that being a witness is not always easy, that even those who oppose us may think they are doing God’s work, but He assures us that the Spirit remains our constant strength. We see the fruit of this testimony in the First Reading, where the Lord opens the heart of Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth, allowing the Gospel to take root in a new land through her attentiveness and hospitality. As we reflect today, let us join in the new song of the Responsorial Psalm, remembering that the Lord takes delight in His people. May the intercession of Saint Francis and Saint Mammertus inspire us to be bold in our witness and humble in our prayers, trusting that the Spirit of Truth is guiding every step we take. Wishing you all a productive and spiritually fruitful start to the week. Amen. 🙏🏽

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Sixth Week of Easter | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Monday of the Sixth Week of Easter | May 11, 2026
Reading I: Acts 16:11–15
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 149:1b–2, 3–4, 5–6a and 9b
Gospel: John 15:26—16:4a

Gospel Reading ~ John 15:26—16:4a

“When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father… he will testify to me. And you also testify.”

Jesus said to his disciples: “When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning. “I have told you this so that you may not fall away. They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God. They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me. I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you.”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In the Gospel, Jesus continues to prepare His disciples for the time when He will no longer be physically present. This reflection centers on the Dual Testimony of the Holy Spirit and the believer. Jesus promises to send the Advocate, the Spirit of Truth, who will testify to Christ’s identity and mission. However, this divine testimony does not happen in a vacuum, it is coupled with the testimony of the disciples: “And you also testify.” Our role as Christians is to be the human voice through which the Spirit speaks. Jesus is candid about the cost of this witness, warning of a time when religious fervor would be so distorted that those who persecute Christians would think they are “offering worship to God.” By forewarning them, Jesus ensures that when trials arrive, their faith will not fall away but will be anchored in His words.

This passage reveals that the source of persecution is often a profound Spiritual Blindness, a lack of knowing the Father or the Son. When we testify to the Truth, we are essentially shining a light into that ignorance. The Advocate provides the interior strength to stand firm when the world misunderstands our motives. This remembering that Jesus calls us to is not just an intellectual recall, but a spiritual shield. Knowing that Jesus predicted these struggles allows us to see them not as failures of God’s plan, but as a participation in the very life and suffering of our Master.

The First Reading provides a beautiful, practical example of how the Lord opens the way for this testimony. As Paul and his companions travel to Philippi, they find a place of prayer by the river. Here we meet Lydia, a successful businesswoman who listened. The text tells us a profound spiritual secret: “the Lord opened her heart to pay attention.” While Paul spoke the words, it was the Spirit of Truth who prepared the soil. Lydia’s immediate response, her baptism and her insistent hospitality, shows that true testimony bears fruit in community and service. Her home becomes a sanctuary, proving that the Gospel takes root wherever a heart is opened by the Lord.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 149) echoes the joy of those who, like Lydia, have entered into this new life: “The Lord takes delight in his people.” It calls for a “new song” and a festive dance. This is the interior disposition of the faithful witness; even while facing the potential high praises of God in their throats and the “glory” of their calling, they remain lowly and adorn themselves with victory through God’s love.

As we go through this Monday, let us reflect on our call to testify. Reflect today: Is your heart like Lydia’s open and attentive to the subtle movements of the Spirit in your daily routine? When you face misunderstanding or friction because of your faith, do you remember that Jesus warned us of these things to keep us from falling away? How are you cooperating with the Advocate to testify to the Truth in your workplace or your home? Trust that the same Lord who opened Lydia’s heart is working through you to reach others.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, we thank You for the Advocate who testifies to Your Truth within us. Forgive us for the times we have been silent when we should have spoken, or fearful when we should have trusted. Open our hearts, as You did Lydia’s, to pay attention to Your Word and to be generous in our hospitality. Grant us the courage to remain steadfast even when we are misunderstood, knowing that You have forewarned us and are always with us. May our lives be a “new song” of praise that delights Your heart. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT FRANCIS DI GIROLAMO, PRIEST: Saint Francis (1642–1716), known as the “Apostle of Naples,” was a Jesuit priest of extraordinary zeal and eloquence. Though he initially desired to go to the foreign missions like his patron, Saint Francis Xavier, his superiors recognized that his mission territory was the rugged streets and ports of Naples. He was famously described as a lamb when he talks and a lion when he preaches, spending forty years tirelessly seeking out souls in prisons, brothels, hospitals, and even on the galleys of ships. He is credited with converting over 400 hardened sinners annually and was a prolific miracle worker who humbly attributed his cures to the intercession of Saint Cyrus.

PRAYER: Glorious Saint Francis, help me to become more selfless so that I may live as one who is given up to Christ. Almighty God, grant that we may always strive to retain and complete by our works that Faith which he continually proclaimed with unwearying zeal. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT MAMMERTUS, ARCHBISHOP OF VIENNE: Saint Mammertus (d. 477) was a holy bishop and theologian in Gaul (modern-day France) during a time of great public calamity, including earthquakes and fires. Recognizing these trials as a call to spiritual renewal, he instituted the Rogation Days, three days of prayer, fasting, and processions before the Feast of the Ascension to ask for God’s mercy and protection. He was a renowned miracle worker who famously extinguished a devastating fire in the city of Vienne through his fervent prayers on Easter night. His practice of “Rogations” (from the Latin rogare, meaning “to ask”) became a universal tradition in the Western Church.

PRAYER: Saint Mammertus, holy shepherd and reformer, you turned disaster into opportunity for grace. Help us in our own time to recognize God’s call amid trials and to respond with repentance, hope, and intercession. Amen. 🙏🏽

Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Francis di Girolamo, and Saint Mammertus — pray for us. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR TRUE REPENTANCE AND BOLD WITNESS

On this Monday of the Sixth Week of Easter, as we reflect on the Advocate who testifies within us, we offer our petitions through the intercession of the saints who preached the Truth in times of trial. Lord, we pray for the conversion of hardened hearts and for those living in the shadows of society; through the intercession of Saint Francis di Girolamo (Patron Saint of Grottaglie and the Missions of Naples), grant us the zeal to seek out the lost and the courage to preach Your mercy in the marketplaces of our own lives. We pray for all prisoners, the marginalized, and those struggling with addiction. We pray for protection from calamities and for a spirit of intercession; through the intercession of Saint Mammertus (Patron Saint against fire, earthquakes, and natural disasters), protect our communities from natural disasters, fires, and illness. Grant us the grace of Rogation to ask with humble hearts for Your mercy upon our land. We pray for all who are suffering from spiritual lethargy, that they may be awakened to Your love. Finally, we pray for the Church and for an increase in vocations; through the intercession of today’s saints, grant our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, and all the Clergy the strength to be lions in their preaching and lambs in their pastoral care. We pray for the sick, the dying, and the souls of all the faithful departed. May our hearts, like Lydia’s, be opened to pay attention to Your Word today. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR PEACE | https://dailyreflectionswithphilomena.com/a-prayer-for-peace/

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF MAY: That Everyone Might Have Food. Pope Leo invites us to pray that no one might lack the food they need and that we might learn to live more responsibly, recognizing that the earth’s resources are a gift for everyone.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF MAY | MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our spiritual Mother. This month invites the faithful to draw closer to Mary through prayer, reflection, and imitation of her virtues especially her humility, obedience, purity, and unwavering faith. As the first and most perfect disciple of Christ, Mary leads us gently but firmly to her Son. Throughout Church history, May has been a time to honor Mary with special devotions such as the Rosary, May Crownings, Marian processions, and prayers like the Litany of Loreto. The Church teaches that Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, intercedes for us as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church. During this month, we are called to renew our relationship with her and seek her maternal care in our joys, sorrows, and needs. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan with total trust: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her faithful surrender encourages us to say “yes” to God’s will in our own lives. As we meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and contemplate her role in salvation history, we grow in our love for her and our desire to follow Christ more closely.

In this beautiful month of blooming flowers, may our hearts also blossom with deeper devotion to the Mother of our Savior. Let us bring her our prayers, our homes, and our lives, asking her to accompany us with her love and protection.

“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

Hail Mary, full of grace! Teach us to love Jesus as you loved Him. Cover us with your mantle of mercy, and help us to walk always in the light of your Son. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this month of May to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this new month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽

Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Francis di Girolamo, and Saint Mammertus ~ Pray for us 🙏🏾

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you! Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us. Amen 🙏🏽

Blessings and Love always, Philomena 💖
