Greetings and blessings, beloved family. Happy Mother’s Day to all our beautiful Mothers!
We thank God for the gift of life and for the gift of motherhood. To each and every one of you who are, have been, will be, or act in the capacity of a mother in any manner… Happy Mother’s Day!
Alleluia! Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord, and my Father will love him and we will come to him. On this Sixth Sunday of Easter, we gather in the light of a beautiful promise: that we are never alone. Today, as many celebrate Mother’s Day, we lift up all mothers and mother figures in a special way. Like the Advocate Jesus speaks of, mothers are often the silent, steadfast presence in our lives, nurturers, protectors, and a profound blessing who mirror God’s own tender love and sacrificial care. We wish all mothers a day filled with the honor and joy they so richly deserve. Today, the Church also celebrates the lives of those who became living vessels of the Holy Spirit: Saint Damien of Molokai, who became a martyr of charity for the rejected; Saint John of Avila, the wise Apostle of Andalusia; the courageous shepherdess Saint Solange; the faithful Saints Gordianus and Epimachus; and the compassionate Saint Antoninus of Florence. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks tenderly to our hearts, promising that He will not leave us orphans. He pledges to send the Advocate, the Spirit of Truth, to dwell within us and remain with us always. We see the fire of this Spirit in the First Reading, as Philip brings great joy to Samaria through signs and wonders, and the Apostles lay hands on the believers so they may receive the Holy Spirit. As we reflect today, let us sanctify Christ as Lord in our hearts, as the Second Reading exhorts us. Let us cry out to God with joy for His tremendous deeds, trusting that through the Spirit, Christ lives in us and we in Him. May the intercession of today’s saints give us the reason for our hope and the strength to witness with gentleness and reverence. Wishing you a Sunday filled with the abiding peace of the Advocate and a very Happy Mother’s Day. Amen. 🙏🏽
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Sixth Week of Easter | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Sixth Sunday of Easter | May 10, 2026
Reading I: Acts 8:5–8, 14–17
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 66:1–3, 4–5, 6–7, 16, 20
Reading II: 1 Peter 3:15–18
Gospel: John 14:15–21
Gospel Reading ~ John 14:15–21
“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you… because I live and you will live.”
Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him. But you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Jesus provides a profound promise of companionship as He prepares His disciples for His departure. This reflection centers on the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, who ensures that we are never “orphans” in this world. Jesus clarifies that love for Him is not merely an emotion but is validated through the keeping of His commandments. In return for this loving obedience, the Father sends the Spirit of Truth to dwell within us. This internal presence of God creates a mystical union where we realize that Christ is in the Father, and we are in Him. While the world may feel empty or chaotic, the believer possesses an interior life where the resurrected Christ continues to live and reveal Himself.
This passage also highlights the Distinction between the Disciple and the World. The world cannot accept the Spirit because it lacks the spiritual vision to recognize Him. However, for those who love Christ, the Spirit is a constant, indwelling presence. This “Spirit of Truth” provides the guidance and strength necessary to live out the Gospel. Jesus promises that His departure is not an abandonment but an invitation to a deeper, spiritual life. By living in us through the Spirit, He grants us a share in His own eternal life: “because I live, you will live.”
The First Reading shows the tangible power of this promise as the Gospel spreads to Samaria. Philip’s preaching is accompanied by signs, cures, and great joy. However, the completion of their initiation requires the arrival of Peter and John. This marks a pivotal moment in Church history: the Laying on of Hands so that the baptized might receive the Holy Spirit. This demonstrates that the Christian life is not just about accepting a message, but about receiving a Person, the Holy Spirit, who empowers the community and seals them in the faith. It shows that the Advocate promised in the Gospel is actively working to unify and strengthen the growing Church.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 66) invites the entire earth to “Cry out to God with joy.” It recounts the tremendous deeds of God, from changing the sea into dry land to hearing our personal prayers. This joy is the natural fruit of the Spirit’s presence. When we come and see the works of God, we realize that His kindness is never refused to those who fear Him.
The Second Reading provides the practical application of living with the Advocate. Peter exhorts us to Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts and to always be ready to give a reason for our hope. This hope is not a vague wish but a certainty rooted in the Resurrection. We are called to witness with gentleness and reverence, even when maligned. This is possible because, like Christ, we are brought to life in the Spirit. When we suffer for doing good, we are not alone; the Spirit of Truth within us provides the clear conscience and the strength to endure, just as Christ suffered to lead us to God.
As we go through this Sunday, let us reflect on the presence of the Advocate. Reflect today: Do you live as if you are a spiritual orphan, or do you consciously rely on the Spirit of Truth dwelling within you? Are you prepared to explain the reason for your hope to those who see your conduct? How is your love for Jesus manifested in your daily obedience to His commandments? Trust that you are never alone; the Father, the Son, and the Spirit have made their home in you.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, we thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, our Advocate and Comforter. Forgive us for the times we have lived in fear or loneliness, forgetting that You have not left us orphans. Help us to keep Your commandments as a true sign of our love for You. Grant us the grace to witness to our hope with gentleness and reverence, even in the face of opposition. May Your Spirit guide us into all truth and fill our hearts with the great joy that marked the early Church. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT DAMIEN DE VEUSTER OF MOLOKAI, PRIEST: Saint Damien (1840–1889), known as the Apostle to the Lepers, was a Belgian missionary of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Driven by a martyrdom of charity, he volunteered to serve the abandoned colony of Molokai, Hawaii, where over 800 people lived in forced quarantine due to leprosy. For 15 years, he restored the dignity of the residents by building homes, hospitals, and churches, and providing basic medical care. He famously addressed his flock as we lepers after contracting the disease himself, proving that the Greater Love of Christ knows no boundaries of fear or infection.
PRAYER: God, light and Shepherd of souls, You established Saint Damien as a priest in Your Church to feed Your flock by his word and form it by his example. Help us through his intercession to keep the Faith he taught and follow the way of charity he showed. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT JOHN OF AVILA, PRIEST AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH: Saint John of Avila (1499–1569), the Apostle of Andalusia, was a master of the spiritual life and a reformer of the clergy. After distributing his fortune to the poor, he became a renowned preacher whose mystical writings and spiritual direction influenced giants like Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Declared a Doctor of the Church in 2012, he teaches us to be like clay in the hands of the Divine Potter, urging us to withdraw our hearts from the world so that we may belong entirely to God.
PRAYER: Almighty and eternal God, who gave Your holy Church Saint John of Avila as Doctor, grant that what he taught may stay firm in our hearts. By his intercession, may we be moved by the Divine Spirit to follow Your will with perfect devotion. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT SOLANGE, VIRGIN AND MARTYR: Saint Solange (d. 880) was a humble Frankish shepherdess who consecrated her life to God at age seven. Renowned for her gift of healing and her intense prayer life, she was martyred by a noble for resisting his abduction and preserving her vow of chastity. Tradition holds that her severed head invoked the Holy Name of Jesus three times, a powerful witness to the Spirit of Truth that remains in the heart of the faithful even in the face of death. She is the Patroness of Berry, France, and of those seeking relief from drought.
PRAYER: God, You bestowed heavenly gifts on Saint Solange and gave her the strength to remain faithful unto death. Help us to imitate her virtues during our earthly life and enjoy eternal happiness with her in heaven. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINTS GORDIANUS AND EPIMACHUS, MARTYRS: Saint Gordianus was a Roman judge who, after being moved by the testimony of a priest he was meant to condemn, converted to the Faith. He was tortured and beheaded around 360 AD. He was buried in the same crypt as Saint Epimachus, who had been martyred earlier in Alexandria. Together, they testify to the unity of the Church and the “Spirit of Truth” that leads believers from all ranks of life, from judges to simple laborers, to lay down their lives for Christ.
PRAYER: Grant, we pray, almighty God, that we, who celebrate the heavenly birthday of Your holy Martyrs Gordianus and Epimachus, may be strengthened by their intercession and find our names written in Your Book of Life. Amen. 🙏🏽
SAINT ANTONINUS, BISHOP OF FLORENCE: Saint Antoninus (1389–1459) was a Dominican friar and Archbishop of Florence known as Antoninus of Counsel for his profound wisdom in moral theology. He was a pioneer of Christian social ethics, selling his own goods to provide for the poor during times of plague and famine. His life demonstrates that whoever observes the commandments of love is truly the one whom the Father loves and to whom Christ reveals Himself.
PRAYER: Eternal God, You blessed Saint Antoninus with a marvelous gift of counsel. By the help of his prayers, may we learn from the light of Christ all that we ought to do while we walk in the darkness of this life. Amen. 🙏🏽
Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Damien, Saint John of Avila, Saint Solange, Saints Gordianus and Epimachus, and Saint Antoninus — pray for us. 🙏🏽
PRAYER INTENTION: FOR THE REJECTED, THE MARGINALIZED, AND SPIRITUAL ADVOCACY
On this Sixth Sunday of Easter, as we receive the promise of the Advocate, we offer our prayers through the intercession of the saints who served as a voice for the forgotten. Lord, we pray for those suffering from leprosy, cancer, and terminal illnesses; through the intercession of Saint Damien of Molokai (Patron of Lepers), grant them healing and the comfort of knowing they are never orphans. We pray for all health workers and missionaries, that they may serve with a Greater Love. We pray for all victims of violence and for those seeking purity; through the intercession of Saint Solange (Patroness of rape victims and children), grant them peace, restoration, and the strength of the Holy Spirit. We pray for rain in areas suffering from drought and for the well-being of all who work in the fields. Finally, we pray for the Church and her leaders; through the intercession of Saint John of Avila (Doctor of the Church) and Saint Antoninus (Patron of Counsel), grant our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, and the Clergy the Spirit of Truth. May we always be ready to give a reason for our hope with gentleness and reverence. We pray for the conversion of sinners, for the poor, and for the repose of the souls of our departed family members. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF MAY | MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: May is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and our spiritual Mother. This month invites the faithful to draw closer to Mary through prayer, reflection, and imitation of her virtues especially her humility, obedience, purity, and unwavering faith. As the first and most perfect disciple of Christ, Mary leads us gently but firmly to her Son. Throughout Church history, May has been a time to honor Mary with special devotions such as the Rosary, May Crownings, Marian processions, and prayers like the Litany of Loreto. The Church teaches that Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, intercedes for us as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church. During this month, we are called to renew our relationship with her and seek her maternal care in our joys, sorrows, and needs. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan with total trust: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her faithful surrender encourages us to say “yes” to God’s will in our own lives. As we meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and contemplate her role in salvation history, we grow in our love for her and our desire to follow Christ more closely.
In this beautiful month of blooming flowers, may our hearts also blossom with deeper devotion to the Mother of our Savior. Let us bring her our prayers, our homes, and our lives, asking her to accompany us with her love and protection.
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
Hail Mary, full of grace! Teach us to love Jesus as you loved Him. Cover us with your mantle of mercy, and help us to walk always in the light of your Son. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past month and entrust this month of May to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we continue this season of Easter joy. May the Resurrection of Your Son help us to seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and steady guidance that flow from the empty tomb shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of the Risen Christ. As we journey onward into this new month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled Easter Season. Amen. 🙏🏽
