PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
By the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
Who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. There is no “mandatory” time for the St. Michael prayer, but it is traditionally recited in these contexts:
After Low Mass: Historically, it was part of the Leonine Prayers said at the end of Mass.
Morning or Night Prayer: Many people include it in their daily “armour” of prayer when waking up or before going to sleep for spiritual protection.
During Times of Temptation: It is often used as an immediate prayer whenever one feels a sense of spiritual conflict.
THE ANGELUS
Traditionally prayed at 6 AM, 12 Noon, and 6 PM.
V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
(Hail Mary…)
V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord,
R. Be it done unto me according to thy word.
(Hail Mary…)
V. And the Word was made flesh,
R. And dwelt among us.
(Hail Mary…)
V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts;
That we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son,
Was made known by the message of an angel,
May by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection,
Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen. The Angelus is traditionally prayed three times a day. Historically, church bells would ring at these hours to invite the faithful to pause their work:
6:00 AM: To begin the day with the Incarnation.
12:00 PM (Noon): A midday pause for reflection.
6:00 PM: To close the day in prayer.Note: During the Easter season, the Regina Caeli replaces the Angelus.
CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY
Prayed using Rosary beads. Begin with:
Introductory Prayers:
- One Our Father
- One Hail Mary
- The Apostles’ Creed
On the Our Father beads (large beads):
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity
Of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ,
In atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
On the Hail Mary beads (10 small beads):
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion,
Have mercy on us and on the whole world.
After the five decades, conclude with (3x):
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy on us and on the whole world. While this can be prayed at any time, it is most commonly associated with:
3:00 PM (The Hour of Great Mercy): This commemorates the hour of Jesus’ death on the cross. Many people set an alarm or pause at this time to pray the Chaplet.
