Traditionally prayed September 6–14 | Feast: September 15

At times, it seems that life is threatened on all sides. The Church invites us to turn to Mary, the Mother of Sorrows, who stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross, sharing in the suffering of her Son for our salvation. Her pierced heart (cf. Luke 2:35) reminds us that love and sorrow often go hand in hand.

Through this novena, we unite our prayers with the Sorrowful Mother, asking her intercession for ourselves, our families, the Church, and a world in need of God’s mercy.

The Seven Promises of Our Lady of Sorrows

Our Sorrowful Mother revealed these promises to St. Bridget of Sweden for those who daily honor her by praying seven Hail Marys while meditating on her tears and sorrows:

  1. I will grant peace to their families.
  2. They will be enlightened about the divine Mysteries.
  3. I will console them in their pains and accompany them in their work.
  4. I will give them as much as they ask for, as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of My divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.
  5. I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and protect them at every instant of their lives.
  6. I will visibly help them at the moment of their death. They will see the face of their Mother.
  7. I have obtained this grace from My divine Son: those who propagate this devotion to My tears and sorrows will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their sins will be forgiven and My Son will be their eternal consolation and joy.

These promises reveal the tender love of Mary for those who keep her sorrows close to their hearts.
