Traditionally Prayed Nine Days Prior to the Solemnity of Christ the King
November 14–22, 2025

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, celebrated this year on Sunday, November 23, 2025, marks the joyful proclamation that Christ reigns over heaven and earth, and that His Kingdom is a kingdom of truth, life, holiness, grace, justice, love, and peace. Instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 through the encyclical Quas Primas, this solemnity was established at a time when the world was experiencing the rise of secularism, nationalism, and moral confusion. Pope Pius XI sought to remind the faithful, and the entire world, that true order and lasting peace can only be found when individuals and nations acknowledge the kingship of Christ.
Originally celebrated on the last Sunday of October, the feast was later placed at the end of the liturgical year to emphasize Christ as the Alpha and the Omega, the One who reigns now and forever. Over time, the faithful began preparing for this feast with a nine-day novena, a practice rooted in the Church’s tradition of spiritually preparing for major solemnities.
In preparation for this feast, the Church now traditionally prays the Novena to Christ the King during the nine days leading up to the solemnity. The novena is a prayer of surrender, adoration, and reparation, inviting us to enthrone Christ in our hearts, homes, and daily lives. It is a moment to reflect on the kingship of Jesus, who does not rule with earthly might, but with sacrificial love and merciful authority.
Purpose of the Novena
This novena helps the faithful:
- Acknowledge Christ as the true King and center of their lives
- Seek His grace to live according to the values of His Kingdom
- Pray for personal renewal and global peace
- Make reparation for sins and for the rejection of Christ’s authority in the world
From November 14–22, 2025, we join the universal Church in praying this novena with devotion and trust, asking Christ the King to reign in our hearts and strengthen us in faith.
PRAYER: Almighty and merciful God, you break the power of evil and make all things new in your Son Jesus Christ, the King of the universe. May all in heaven and earth acclaim your glory and never cease to praise you.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.🙏🏾
Recite One Our Father, One Hail Mary and One Glory Be per day followed by the Novena Prayer:
O Lord our God, You alone are the Most Holy King and Ruler of all nations. We pray to You, Lord, in the great expectation of receiving from You, O Divine King, mercy, peace, justice and all good things. Protect, O Lord our King, our families and the land of our birth. Guard us we pray, Most Faithful One. Protect us from our enemies and from Your Just Judgment. Forgive us, O Sovereign King, our sins against You. Jesus, You are a King of Mercy. We have deserved Your Just Judgment. Have mercy on us, Lord, and forgive us. We trust in Your Great Mercy. O most awe-inspiring King, we bow before You and pray; May Your Reign, Your Kingdom, be recognized on earth. Amen. 🙏🏾
