BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Saturday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time | Saturday, October 31, 2026
Reading 1: Philippians 1:18b-26
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 42:2, 3, 5cdef
Gospel: Luke 14:1, 7-11
Gospel Reading ~ Luke 14:1, 7-11
“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
“On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table. ‘When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him, and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, “Give your place to this man,” and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, “My friend, move up to a higher position.” Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.'”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
Today’s readings call us to cultivate deep humility and total surrender to Jesus Christ, recognizing that true glory comes not from seeking high status, but from making Christ the absolute center of our existence. In the Gospel, Jesus observes banquet guests competing for seats of honor. Through a simple parable, He overturns worldly standards of pride, teaching us to choose the lowest place with a sincere, humble heart. True honor in God’s Kingdom is not seized through ambition or self-promotion, but received as a gift from the Master who exalts the lowly and humble of heart.
This posture of radical humility and self-forgetfulness shines brilliantly in the First Reading, where Saint Paul writes from prison with joyful detachment. For Paul, personal status or comfort matters nothing compared to the glory of God: “For to me life is Christ, and death is gain.” Whether he lives to continue his fruitful labor for others or dies to be united with the Lord, Paul’s sole desire is that Christ be magnified in his body. His heart longs for eternal union with God, perfectly mirroring the longing of the Responsorial Psalm: “As the hind longs for the running waters, so my soul longs for you, O God. Athirst is my soul for God, the living God.”
Today, as we conclude the month of October and prepare our hearts for the solemnity of All Saints, let us examine where our deepest desires lie. Are we seeking the praise and high seats of this world, or are we content to take the lowest place so that Christ alone may be glorified through us? How can you practice Christlike humility today by stepping back from self-assertion and serving someone else with a quiet, generous heart?
Heavenly Father, we thank You for teaching us that true greatness in Your Kingdom is found in lowliness and service. Forgive us for the times we have allowed pride, self-seeking ambition, or the desire for human recognition to govern our hearts. Grant us the grace to embrace humility, taking the lowest place so that Your Son may be magnified in all we do. Fill our souls with a burning thirst for You, so that whether in life or in death, our lives may proclaim that Christ is our all in all. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER | MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY: October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, a powerful prayer that draws us into the heart of the Gospel through the eyes of Mary. The Rosary is more than repetition, it is a meditation on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, united with the loving presence of His Blessed Mother. As Pope St. John Paul II reminded us, the Rosary is “a compendium of the Gospel,” helping us to contemplate Christ’s face with Mary.
The twenty mysteries of the Rosary, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous, invite us to journey with Christ from His Incarnation to His Passion and His triumph over death. Each mystery opens us to God’s saving love, strengthens our faith, and leads us to imitate the virtues of Jesus and Mary in our daily lives. This month, the Church invites us to renew our devotion to the Rosary by praying it daily, whether alone, in families, or in community. Through it, we find peace in times of trial, strength against temptation, and deeper trust in God’s providence. Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, intercedes for us and leads us always to her Son.
“O Mary, our Blessed Mother and Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, teach us to pray with a pure heart and a steadfast spirit. As we meditate on the mysteries of Christ, help us to grow in faith, hope, and love. Intercede for us before your Son, that our families, our Church, and our world may be filled with peace and the light of the Gospel. Amen.” 🙏🏽
