Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today, the Church commemorates Saint Narcissus, Bishop of Jerusalem. Saint Narcissus was a holy, long-lived shepherd who governed his flock with disciplined love, performed remarkable miracles, and endured false accusations with silent patience by seeking refuge in constant prayer. His deep prayer life and perseverance in the face of trial reflect today’s scriptures, where Saint Paul in the First Reading commands us to put on the full armor of God, girding ourselves with truth, faith, and unceasing prayer in the Spirit to resist the evil one. In the Gospel, Jesus demonstrates this same unshakeable resolve as He presses forward toward Jerusalem to accomplish His redemptive mission, yearning to gather His children safely under His wings.

Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Thursday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time | Thursday, October 29, 2026
Reading 1:
Ephesians 6:10-20
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 144:1b, 2, 9-10
Gospel: Luke 13:31-35

Gospel Reading ~ Luke 13:31-35

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were unwilling!”

“Some Pharisees came to Jesus and said, ‘Go away, leave this area because Herod wants to kill you.’ He replied, ‘Go and tell that fox, “Behold, I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I accomplish my purpose. Yet I must continue on my way today, tomorrow, and the following day, for it is impossible that a prophet should die outside of Jerusalem.” Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were unwilling! Behold, your house will be abandoned. But I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

Today’s readings reveal Christ’s unwavering, resolute commitment to His saving mission, alongside Saint Paul’s urgent summons to spiritual warfare. In the Gospel, when some Pharisees warn Jesus that Herod Antipas intends to kill Him, Jesus remains completely unshakeable. Calling Herod a “fox”—a symbol of cunning and powerlessness against divine purpose—Jesus declares that He will continue His work of healing and casting out demons until His redemptive work is accomplished in Jerusalem on the “third day.” Expressing profound divine tenderness, He laments over Jerusalem, yearning to gather her children under His protective wings. Yet, He highlights the tragic reality of human unwillingness to accept God’s merciful shelter.

To stand firm in our own Christian walk against opposition and spiritual resistance, we must rely on divine strength rather than human reliance. In the First Reading, Saint Paul instructs us to put on the full armor of God so that we may withstand the tactics of the adversary. Reminding us that our true struggle is spiritual, Paul equips us with truth as our belt, righteousness as our breastplate, the Gospel of peace for our feet, faith as a shield, salvation as our helmet, and the Word of God as the sword of the Spirit. Grounded in continuous prayer, we stand victorious because, as the Responsorial Psalm proclaims: “Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for battle… My mercy and my fortress, my stronghold, my deliverer.”

Today, let us reflect on our readiness for spiritual combat and our willingness to abide under Christ’s care. Are we actively putting on the armor of God daily, or are we trying to fight spiritual battles in our own frail strength? How can you take refuge under Christ’s protective care today while courageously using the sword of God’s Word to speak truth and peace?

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the invincible strength and tender mercy You offer us in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Forgive us for the times we have relied on our own power, succumbed to fear, or resisted Your protective grace. Equip us today with the full armor of God, truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, and Your holy Word. Grant us holy boldness to fulfill Your will and keep us safe under the shadow of Your wings. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT NARCISSUS, BISHOP OF JERUSALEM: St. Narcissus (c. 99 – c. 216 A.D.) was an early Patriarch of Jerusalem, consecrated in his 80th year around 180 A.D. Renowned for his holiness, discipline, and miracles, he famously turned water into oil on Easter Eve when the church lamps ran dry. Despite his righteousness, he faced false accusations from three malicious men. Though innocent, Narcissus used the occasion to retreat into the wilderness as a hermit to pray in solitude. After years away, he returned to Jerusalem, welcomed back by the faithful to shepherd his flock once again. He appointed St. Alexander as his coadjutor in his extreme old age and served until his death at approximately 116 years old. He is the patron saint of the elderly and protection against insect bites.

PRAYER: God, You made St. Narcissus an outstanding exemplar of divine love and the faith that conquers the world. Grant by his intercession that we may persevere in faith and love and become sharers of his glory. Amen. 🙏🏽

Our Blessed Mother Mary, and Saint Narcissus pray for us 🙏🏾

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER | MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY: October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, a powerful prayer that draws us into the heart of the Gospel through the eyes of Mary. The Rosary is more than repetition, it is a meditation on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, united with the loving presence of His Blessed Mother. As Pope St. John Paul II reminded us, the Rosary is “a compendium of the Gospel,” helping us to contemplate Christ’s face with Mary.

The twenty mysteries of the Rosary, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous, invite us to journey with Christ from His Incarnation to His Passion and His triumph over death. Each mystery opens us to God’s saving love, strengthens our faith, and leads us to imitate the virtues of Jesus and Mary in our daily lives. This month, the Church invites us to renew our devotion to the Rosary by praying it daily, whether alone, in families, or in community. Through it, we find peace in times of trial, strength against temptation, and deeper trust in God’s providence. Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, intercedes for us and leads us always to her Son.

“O Mary, our Blessed Mother and Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, teach us to pray with a pure heart and a steadfast spirit. As we meditate on the mysteries of Christ, help us to grow in faith, hope, and love. Intercede for us before your Son, that our families, our Church, and our world may be filled with peace and the light of the Gospel. Amen.” 🙏🏽
