Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
Today, the Church joyfully celebrates the Feast of the Holy Redeemer, alongside the Memorials of Saint John of Capistrano, Priest and Saint James of Jerusalem (the Just). The Feast of the Holy Redeemer invites us to gaze upon Jesus Christ, who paid the ransom for our sins through His Cross and Resurrection, offering us divine grace, peace, and reconciliation. Saint John of Capistrano, a brilliant lawyer, Franciscan reformer, and fearless preacher known as the “Apostle of Europe” spent his life proclaiming the Holy Name of Jesus, while Saint James of Jerusalem, the first Bishop of Jerusalem and author of the New Testament Epistle, provided unwavering pastoral leadership, promoted wisdom and works of active faith, and sealed his witness with martyrdom. Their collective witness echoes today’s Gospel, where Jesus calls us to discern the present time of grace, settle our spiritual debts, and live in immediate reconciliation. As Saint Paul urges in the First Reading to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, let us turn to our Holy Redeemer today with humble, clean hearts.
🙏🏽 A PRAYER FOR OUR HOLY FATHER, POPE LEO XIV 🙏🏽🤍
According to the Vatican News Pope Leo XIV has officially been discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and has returned safely to the Vatican, recovering well ahead of initial schedules following his lung surgery. We give thanks for his successful discharge and continue to hold Pope Leo XIV in our prayers for his complete healing, restored strength, and continued good health. Amen 🙏🏾.
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Friday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time | Friday, October 23, 2026
Reading 1: Ephesians 4:1-6
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 24:1-2, 3-4ab, 5-6
Gospel: Luke 12:54-59
Gospel Reading ~ Luke 12:54-59
“You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?”
“Jesus said to the crowds, ‘When you see a cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain—and so it does; and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot—and so it is. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time? Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate, make an effort to settle the matter on the way; otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the constable, and the constable throw you into prison. I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.'”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
Today’s readings challenge us to spiritual attentiveness, urgency in reconciliation, and active preservation of Christian unity. In the Gospel, Jesus rebukes the crowds for their spiritual blindness. While they readily analyze signs in nature to predict the weather, they fail to discern the “present time”—the decisive moment of salvation at hand in Christ. Urging His hearers to judge what is right before it is too late, Jesus uses the imagery of legal reconciliation on the way to court. He calls us to seek immediate conversion, make peace with others, and settle lingering debts of sin and anger before facing divine judgment.
This urgent call to live rightly in the present age is rooted in the high calling described in the First Reading. Writing as a prisoner for the Lord, Saint Paul urges us to live a life worthy of our calling—with all humility, gentleness, patience, and mutual charity. He highlights the imperative of preserving spiritual unity through the bond of peace: “One Body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all.” As the Responsorial Psalm reminds us, true unity and discernment belong to those who seek God with pure hearts: “Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face… He whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean.”
Today, let us reflect on our discernment and relationships. Are we attuned to God’s presence and promptings in our daily lives, or are we distracted by temporal matters? Are there unresolved conflicts or unconfessed sins that we need to settle without delay? How can you promote peace and unity in your community today while seeking immediate reconciliation in your relationships?
Heavenly Father, we thank You for calling us into the unity of one faith, one baptism, and one Body in Christ. Forgive us for the times we have been spiritually blind to Your presence or slow to seek reconciliation and peace. Cleanse our hands and purify our hearts so that we may discern the signs of the times and live worthy of the calling we have received. Grant us the grace of humility, patience, and gentleness in all our interactions. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

FEAST OF THE HOLY REDEEMER: The Feast of the Holy Redeemer originated in Venice, Italy, in thanksgiving for deliverance from a devastating plague in 1576 that claimed thousands of lives. In gratitude, the Venetian Senate vowed to build a magnificent temple in honor of Christ the Redeemer. The great architect Andrea Palladio designed the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer (Il Redentore), whose cornerstone was laid in 1577 and consecrated in 1592. The Church became a symbol of divine mercy and hope, entrusted to the Capuchin Fathers at the urging of Pope Gregory XIII.
For over four centuries, Venice has celebrated this feast with solemn devotion, offering thanks for redemption and healing. Spiritually, the feast invites the faithful to contemplate the mystery of Christ’s redeeming love—His death on the Cross and glorious Resurrection that restored humanity’s communion with God. Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, reveals the infinite mercy of the Father and the power of love that triumphs over sin and death. “I know that my Redeemer lives” (Job 19:25). Through Him, we are renewed and called to live in freedom, justice, and peace.
“The Redeemer of man, Jesus Christ, is the center of the universe and of history.” — Saint John Paul II, Redemptor Hominis
PRAYER: Eternal Father, in Your boundless mercy, You sent Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to redeem the world through His Cross and Resurrection. May we always remember Your kindness, cling to You in love, and rejoice in the blessings of our redemption. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT JOHN OF CAPISTRANO, PRIEST (1385–1456): Saint John of Capistrano was a Franciscan priest, preacher, reformer, and missionary whose zeal for souls left a lasting mark on the Church. Born in Capistrano, Italy, in 1385, he studied law in Perugia and became a successful lawyer and governor. Captured during a political conflict, John experienced a deep conversion while imprisoned. Upon his release, he entered the Franciscan Order, embracing a life of poverty and penance under the guidance of Saint Bernardine of Siena. Ordained a priest in 1425, he became known as a fiery preacher and reformer, traveling throughout Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Poland to rekindle faith and combat heresy. His eloquence drew enormous crowds, and many were moved to repentance and conversion. His devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus was profound, and he tirelessly promoted peace and Church unity.
In 1456, when the Turkish army threatened Christian Europe, Pope Callixtus III called upon Saint John to inspire a crusade for defense. At age seventy, he led thousands under a banner marked with the Holy Name of Jesus to a decisive victory at the Battle of Belgrade—a triumph attributed to his faith and leadership. Soon after, weakened by illness, he died in Ilok, Croatia, on October 23, 1456, proclaiming his final act of love for Christ. Canonized in 1724, Saint John of Capistrano remains a model of courage, conviction, and holy zeal.
PRAYER: Lord God, You raised up Saint John of Capistrano to strengthen Your people in times of distress and to defend the truth of the Gospel. Grant that through his intercession, we may remain steadfast in faith, courageous in witness, and always zealous in Your service. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏾
SAINT JAMES OF JERUSALEM, BISHOP AND MARTYR: St. James of Jerusalem (1st c.), known as “the Just” and the brother or close relative of the Lord, was the first Bishop of Jerusalem and a foundational pillar of the apostolic Church. He presided over the Council of Jerusalem with remarkable wisdom and authored the practical New Testament Epistle of James, which calls believers to pair living faith with concrete works of charity. Renowned for his deep piety and unceasing prayer, he stayed at his post during intense persecution and suffered martyrdom by stoning around 62 A.D. He is the patron saint of Jerusalem and Christian leadership.
PRAYER: Almighty God, following the example of Saint James, grant us the grace to live out our faith through genuine works of love, steadfast prayer, and uncompromising courage. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER | MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY: October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, a powerful prayer that draws us into the heart of the Gospel through the eyes of Mary. The Rosary is more than repetition, it is a meditation on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, united with the loving presence of His Blessed Mother. As Pope St. John Paul II reminded us, the Rosary is “a compendium of the Gospel,” helping us to contemplate Christ’s face with Mary.
The twenty mysteries of the Rosary, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous, invite us to journey with Christ from His Incarnation to His Passion and His triumph over death. Each mystery opens us to God’s saving love, strengthens our faith, and leads us to imitate the virtues of Jesus and Mary in our daily lives. This month, the Church invites us to renew our devotion to the Rosary by praying it daily, whether alone, in families, or in community. Through it, we find peace in times of trial, strength against temptation, and deeper trust in God’s providence. Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, intercedes for us and leads us always to her Son.
“O Mary, our Blessed Mother and Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, teach us to pray with a pure heart and a steadfast spirit. As we meditate on the mysteries of Christ, help us to grow in faith, hope, and love. Intercede for us before your Son, that our families, our Church, and our world may be filled with peace and the light of the Gospel. Amen.” 🙏🏽
