Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today, the Church celebrates the Tuesday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time, alongside the Memorial of Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, Priest and Doctor of the Church, Saint Victor of Marseilles, Soldier and Martyr, and Saint Praxedes, Virgin. Today’s liturgy calls us to do the Father’s divine will and enter into the eternal family of Christ, trusting in a God who delights in mercy and casts our sins into the depths of the sea. This radical devotion shines powerfully in Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, who courageously defended the faith; Saint Victor, who bore heroic witness unto martyrdom; and Saint Praxedes, who quietly served the poor and persecuted. May we embrace God’s pardoning love and walk faithfully in His grace today.

Today’s Bible Readings for Tuesday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time | July 21, 2026
Reading 1:
Micah 7:14-15, 18-20
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 85:2-4, 5-6, 7-8
Gospel: Matthew 12:46-50

Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 12:46-50

“For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

“While Jesus was speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers appeared outside, wishing to speak with him. Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, asking to speak with you.” But he said in reply to the one who told him, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.””

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In today’s Gospel, we witness a radical and profound redefinition of human relationships and true belonging in the Kingdom of God. While Jesus is actively teaching the crowds, He is interrupted with the news that His biological mother and relatives are standing outside, wishing to speak with Him. Rather than dismissing His earthly family, Christ uses this moment to elevate human kinship into the eternal realm of spiritual identity. Stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He poses a striking question: “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” By declaring that whoever does the will of His heavenly Father is His brother, sister, and mother, Jesus reveals that genuine intimacy with Him is not determined by bloodlines, physical lineage, or social status, but by active, obedience-driven faith.

Far from slighting His Blessed Mother, Jesus’ declaration serves as the ultimate affirmation of Mary’s holy life. Mary is not only the biological mother of Christ, but she is, above all, the quintessential disciple who perfectly heard, cherished, and lived out the word of God, from her humble fiat to her standing faithfully at the foot of the Cross. In this moment, Jesus opens the doors of His divine household to all humanity, extending an extraordinary invitation of closeness. We are not called to be distant admirers or passive spectators of Christ’s mission; rather, through our daily surrender to the Father’s divine will, we are welcomed into the tender, inner circle of Christ’s spiritual family.

In the first reading, the prophet Micah offers a breathtaking prayer of hope and praise, depicting God as the loving Shepherd who guides, feeds, and restores His inheritance. Micah marvels at the unmatched, merciful nature of the Almighty, exclaiming, “Who is there like you, the God who removes guilt and pardons sin?” Unlike human judges who nurse resentment or hold lasting grudges, our God does not persist in anger forever, because He genuinely delights in clemency and lovingkindness. Micah uses a comforting image of total divine forgiveness: God will tread our guilt underfoot and cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. God’s enduring fidelity to His covenant promises, sworn from days of old, guarantees that His mercy remains an unshakeable sanctuary for all who return to Him.

The Responsorial Psalm perfectly reinforces this message of divine grace, lifting up a earnest cry for restoration: “Lord, show us your mercy and love.” The psalmist remembers how God favored His land, brought back captives, and covered the transgressions of His people, withdrawing His burning anger. Yet, recognizing human weakness and ongoing struggles, the psalm pleads for God to grant new life so His people may rejoice in Him once more. It reminds us that salvation and peace are not rewards earned through self-righteous performance, but free gifts from a Father whose mercy is always ready to heal, renew, and forgive those who seek His face.

Reflecting on the Sacred Scriptures today, we are invited to audit our relationship with God and those around us. Do we view our faith merely as an external set of obligations, or do we truly live in the freedom of being cherished members of God’s household? Are we carrying burdens of past mistakes or lingering guilt, forgetting that God actively delights in casting our sins into the deepest sea? Furthermore, as brothers and sisters of Christ, we must examine whether our daily choices align with the heavenly Father’s will. This week, let us embrace God’s pardoning love, cast off all fear and resentment, and commit ourselves to seeking and doing the Father’s will with joyful, undivided hearts.

Lord Jesus, You have drawn us into the wonder of Your divine family, calling us Your brothers, sisters, and mothers whenever we seek to do the will of Your heavenly Father. Forgive us for the times we have allowed pride, self-will, or worldly distractions to pull us away from Your presence. We thank You for Your infinite mercy, which treads our guilt underfoot and buries our sins in the depths of the ocean. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit today, so that we may listen attentively to Your Word, embrace the Father’s plan with trust, and reflect Your gentle, forgiving love to everyone around us. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT LAWRENCE OF BRINDISI, PRIEST AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH: Born Caesar de Rossi in 1559 in Brindisi, Italy, Saint Lawrence entered the Capuchin Franciscans at 16 and soon became renowned for his brilliance and sanctity. He mastered Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and multiple European languages, becoming an extraordinary Scripture scholar and preacher. As a missionary and diplomat, he established Capuchin houses in Germany and Austria to defend the faith during the Reformation and combat heresies. At the Battle of Stuhlweissenburg, Saint Lawrence famously led Christian soldiers outnumbered four to one into battle carrying only a crucifix. His leadership helped repel the Ottoman Turks, preserving the Christian West. Appointed Minister General of the Capuchins and frequently called on for delicate papal missions, he served tirelessly for the Church. Despite his fame and accomplishments, Lawrence remained humble, prayerful, and deeply devoted to the Eucharist. He died in 1619 while on a diplomatic mission and was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1959.

PRAYER: O God, who for the glory of Your Name and the salvation of souls gave the spirit of wisdom and fortitude to Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, grant that through his intercession we may come to know our obligations and courageously fulfill them with faith and love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT VICTOR OF MARSEILLES, SOLDIER AND MARTYR: Saint Victor was a Roman soldier in 3rd-century Gaul who chose fidelity to Christ over allegiance to the empire’s false gods. During Emperor Maximian’s persecution, Victor strengthened frightened Christians and was arrested for his nighttime ministry. Refusing to renounce his faith, he was tortured and imprisoned. On his final day, he defied the emperor by kicking over a pagan altar. In retaliation, his foot was cut off, and after more torture, he was crushed under a millstone. Even in death, Victor’s witness bore fruit his guards converted, his body became a source of miracles, and his tomb became a pilgrimage site.

PRAYER: Lord God, through the courage of Saint Victor, You showed that even the might of empires cannot silence the truth of Christ. May we remain faithful in trials, boldly proclaim Your name, and find our strength in You. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT PRAXEDES, VIRGIN: Saint Praxedes was a noble Roman virgin who lived during the 2nd century. Alongside her sister Saint Pudentiana, she cared for persecuted Christians, hid sacred vessels, and gave her wealth to feed and clothe the poor. Known for her fervent prayer, love of chastity, and constant acts of charity, she lived a quiet yet heroic life in service of Christ. She died in peace and was buried alongside her sister. Her church in Rome Santa Prassede still stands today, bearing witness to her sanctity.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, through the pure and devoted life of Saint Praxedes, You revealed the quiet strength of love and self-giving. Help us imitate her generosity, prayerfulness, and deep trust in You, especially in the face of hardship. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw deep inspiration today from the profound theological wisdom and apostolic zeal of Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, the steadfast, heroic courage of Saint Victor of Marseilles, and the quiet, merciful devotion of Saint Praxedes, we also turn our hearts to the rest of the holy assembly sharing this July 21st feast day. Today, we prayerfully honor and remember SAINT ARBOGAST, SAINTS JOHN & BENIGNUS, SAINT JOHN OF EDESSA, SAINT JULIA OF TROYES, SAINT WASTRADA, AND SAINT ZOTICUS OF COMANA. Spanning across different eras and lands, from early Roman and Eastern martyrs to dedicated early bishops, pious monastic women, and faithful holy men, their diverse journeys all beautifully reflect the multifaceted grace of God. Remembering them reminds us that we belong to an incredibly vast family of faith, encouraging us to follow their example and walk our own path toward holiness with confidence today.

Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, Saint Victor of Marseilles, Saint Praxedes, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: DIVINE MERCY, SPIRITUAL KINSHIP, AND UNWAVERING FIDELITY

Heavenly Father, You are the compassionate Shepherd who delights in mercy, treading our guilt underfoot and casting our sins into the depths of the sea so that we may rejoice in Your divine salvation. As we align our daily tasks, studies, and personal trials with Your heavenly plan, grant us the grace to listen attentively to Your Word and choose Your will above our own, stepping fully into the joy of being Christ’s family. Through the loving intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Lawrence of Brindisi (Patron of Brindisi, Italy, wisdom, peace missions, and defenders of the faith)), Saint Victor of Marseilles (Patron of cabinetmakers, millers, torture victims, and sick children; invoked against lightning), and Saint Praxedes (Patroness of devout single laywomen, charitable works, and the poor and oppressed), we present our earnest prayers. We humbly ask Your divine protection and peace for all expectant mothers, those trusting You for the fruit of the womb, and women enduring difficult labors; we place into Your hands the sick and dying, especially those battling cancers, terminal conditions, gout, epilepsy, kidney disease, or chronic ailments, praying for Your healing touch. Lord, comfort the poor, the needy, the exiled, the falsely accused, and all facing hardship during these trying times, pouring out Your peace, unity, and love upon our families and our global community. Protect the Universal Church, strengthen our Pope, Bishops, and Clergy, shield persecuted Christians who stand firm in times of danger, and grant the grace of deep conversion to sinners everywhere. May the wisdom of Your doctors, the bravery of Your martyrs, and the charity of Your virgins inspire us to walk uprightly and love goodness throughout this day. Amen. 🙏🏽

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF JULY: For respect for human life. Let us pray for the respect and protection of human life in all its stages, recognizing it as a gift from God.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JULY | MONTH OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ a profound devotion that honors the redeeming power of Christ’s Blood shed for our salvation. Flowing from His Sacred Heart, this Blood is the price of our redemption, the source of grace in the sacraments, and the seal of the New Covenant. It reminds us that salvation was not won lightly, but through the ultimate sacrifice of love. This month, the Church invites us to meditate on the infinite value of Christ’s Blood poured out during His Passion from Gethsemane to Calvary and in every celebration of the Holy Eucharist. We are called to offer acts of reparation for the sins of the world and to intercede for the conversion of souls. Devotions such as the Litany of the Precious Blood, the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, and daily consecration to the Precious Blood help deepen our union with Christ crucified.

As Saint John Chrysostom once said, “The Precious Blood is the salvation of souls; it purifies, sanctifies, and strengthens.” In our trials, let us take refuge beneath the cross, trusting in the Blood that speaks of mercy, victory, and eternal life.

“Precious Blood of Jesus, save us and the whole world.”

O Most Precious Blood of Jesus, fountain of salvation, we adore You. Wash us clean of sin, protect us from evil, and draw us into deeper love and union with You. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of July to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Cross, the cleansing power of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and the enduring fire of the Holy Spirit continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Heart of our Redeemer shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽

Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, Saint Victor of Marseilles, Saint Praxedes, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you! Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us. Amen 🙏🏽
