Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today the Church celebrates the Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time, alongside the Memorial of Saint Bonaventure, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. Today’s liturgy calls us to embrace childlike humility and recognize that all our talents are gifts from God: in the Gospel, Jesus praises the Father for hiding the mysteries of the Kingdom from the wise and revealing them to the childlike, while in the First Reading, Isaiah warns us against the pride of Assyria, reminding us that we are merely instruments in God’s hands. Inspired by Saint Bonaventure, the “Seraphic Doctor,” who combined towering intellect with profound Franciscan humility, let us cast away all spiritual pride, seek Christ in simplicity, and allow Him to set our hearts aflame with His love today.

Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings for Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time | July 15, 2026
Reading 1:
Isaiah 10:5-7, 13b-16
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 94:5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 14-15
Gospel: Matthew 11:25-27

Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 11:25-27

“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.”

“At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.””

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers a beautiful, intimate glimpse into His relationship with the Father, exclaiming in praise of the divine mystery of revelation. He reveals that the deep, life-giving truths of the Kingdom of God are not unlocked by intellectual prestige, academic status, or human cleverness. Instead, God has hidden these mysteries from the self-proclaimed “wise and learned” and revealed them to the “childlike.” This does not mean God rejects intelligence or learning, but rather that He rejects the intellectual pride and self-sufficiency that so often close the human heart to the need for grace. To be childlike in the biblical sense is to embrace a posture of utter dependence, trust, simplicity, and openness before God. Only through this humble disposition can we receive the revelation of the Son, who alone knows the Father perfectly and desires to unveil Him to those who approach Him with sincere, uncluttered hearts.

According to the Gospel, true knowledge of God is not merely an intellectual exercise or a series of facts to be memorized, but an intimate, relational reality. It is dangerously easy to fall into the trap of spiritual pride, relying on our own understanding, moral achievements, or theological degrees while keeping Jesus at an arm’s length. When we become self-absorbed or convinced of our own wisdom, we shut the door to the Holy Spirit’s transformative power, rendering ourselves blind to the simple, daily promptings of grace. Jesus invites us to strip away our sophisticated masks of self-reliance and step into the spiritual freedom of childhood. When we humble ourselves, acknowledging our limitations and our absolute need for God, we open our souls to receive the profound, personal revelation of the Father’s tender love and sovereign care.

In the first reading, the prophet Isaiah delivers a sharp and dramatic warning against the blinding poison of pride and self-glorification, using the nation of Assyria as a stark example. God explains that He used Assyria simply as His “rod” and “staff” of correction to discipline His unfaithful people. However, in its arrogance, Assyria failed to recognize its role as a mere instrument, boasting instead of its own military prowess, wisdom, and clever strategies, claiming: “By my own power I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I am shrewd.” Through Isaiah, God ridicules this haughty attitude with a piercing question: “Will the axe boast against him who hews with it? Will the saw exalt itself above him who wields it?” This powerful text serves as a timeless reminder that all power, intellect, and success ultimately belong to God, and that when we arrogate His glory to ourselves, we invite a humbling spiritual collapse and ruin.

The Responsorial Psalm proclaims: “The Lord will not abandon his people.” This psalm directly echoes the warning against human pride, confronting those who oppress the vulnerable, the widow, the stranger, and the fatherless, while foolishly assuming that the Lord does not see or perceive their wicked deeds. The Psalmist rebukes this ignorance with profound logic, asking: “Shall he who shaped the ear not hear? Or he who formed the eye not see?” It reassures us that despite the temporary triumph of the arrogant, God remains the sovereign Judge of the universe who sees every hidden injustice, guarantees that judgment will once again align with justice, and promises never to forsake His faithful, upright inheritance.

Reflecting on the Sacred Scriptures today, we are invited to audit the secret motivations of our hearts and the source of our daily confidence. Are there areas in your life, your studies, your creative talents, or your professional skills, where you have begun to boast like Assyria, quietly taking credit for your successes and acting as if you achieved them by your own independent power? Have you allowed intellectual pride to make you critical of others, or has spiritual self-sufficiency kept you from falling on your knees in childlike surrender? God is calling us today to lay down our heavy armor of self-reliance and put on the light yoke of humility. Let us remember that we are merely instruments in the hands of the divine Creator. When we trust Him with the simplicity of a child, we find our true strength and unlock the deepest mysteries of His love.

Lord Jesus, Father of Heaven and Earth, I praise You for Your infinite wisdom and Your gracious will. Purify my heart from all pride, self-sufficiency, and intellectual arrogance that blind me to Your truth. Grant me a truly childlike spirit, humble, trusting, and totally dependent on Your grace, so that I may receive the beautiful revelation of Your love. Remind me always that I am but a simple instrument in Your hands, and let all the glory of my life be directed back to You. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT BONAVENTURE, BISHOP AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH: Saint Bonaventure (1221–1274), born Giovanni di Fidanza in Bagnoregio, Italy, was miraculously healed as a child through the prayers of Saint Francis of Assisi, who exclaimed, “O buona ventura!” “Oh, good fortune!” This name would prophetically mark a life of extraordinary holiness and wisdom. Entering the Franciscan Order at 22, Bonaventure studied in Paris, where he became a close friend of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Despite his towering intellect, he pointed to the crucifix as the true source of his insight.

As Minister General of the Franciscans, he brought peace during internal divisions and became known as the “second founder” of the Order. His mystical writings, especially The Soul’s Journey into God, reveal a heart on fire for Christ. Appointed Cardinal-Bishop of Albano in 1273, he died the following year while serving at the Second Council of Lyons.

Canonized in 1482 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1588, Saint Bonaventure is remembered as a man whose intellect and sanctity flowed from deep union with Christ. As Pope Benedict XVI said, “His whole thinking was profoundly Christocentric.”

“Let meditation of Christ’s life be your one and only aim, your rest, your food, your desire, your study.” ~ Saint Bonaventure

PRAYER: O God, who gave the Bishop Saint Bonaventure a special gift of deep insight and burning love for You, grant that we may be nourished by his heavenly wisdom and imitate the fervor of his charity. Through the intercession of the Seraphic Doctor, may our minds be lifted to divine truth, and our hearts set aflame with love for Christ, the center of all creation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw profound inspiration today from the brilliant intellectual humility, seraphic wisdom, and pastoral leadership of the Doctor of the Church, Saint Bonaventure, we also turn our hearts to the rest of the holy assembly sharing this July 15th feast day. Spanning across centuries of Church history, from courageous early Roman martyrs and pioneering missionaries in Asia to holy Celtic hermits, monastic builders, dedicated religious sisters, and noble, converting rulers—their diverse lives all beautifully reflect the multifaceted grace of God. Remembering them reminds us that we belong to an incredibly vast, unbroken family of faith, encouraging us to follow their example and walk our own path toward holiness with confidence today.

PRAYER INTENTION: HUMILITY, DIVINE HEALING, AND SERAPHIC CHARITY

Heavenly Father, You reveal the deep mysteries of Your Kingdom to the humble and childlike, hiding them from the proud. As we bring our lives, anxieties, and intentions before You today, we ask for the grace to walk with the simple trust of children, completely dependent on Your sovereign love. Through the powerful intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary and the Seraphic Doctor, Saint Bonaventure (Patron of bowel disorders, theologians, the Franciscan Order, students, publishers, and those suffering from fevers), we humbly lay our petitions at Your feet. We pray for the sick and the dying, especially those suffering from bowel disorders, fevers, cancers, and other terminal or chronic illnesses; grant them Your divine, comforting, and restorative healing. We lift up all who are facing severe trials, financial hardships, and emotional distress during these challenging times, asking You to provide for the poor and the needy. Lord, pour out Your peace, love, and unity upon our families and our fractured world. We continue to pray for the Universal Church, the Clergy, persecuted Christians who boldly witness to Your truth, and for the conversion of all sinners. Just as Saint Bonaventure found his wisdom at the foot of the Cross, may we always look to Jesus as the center of our lives and burn with the ardor of His holy charity. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR PEACE | https://dailyreflectionswithphilomena.com/a-prayer-for-peace/

THE POPE’S MONTHLY INTENTIONS FOR 2026: FOR THE MONTH OF JULY: For respect for human life. Let us pray for the respect and protection of human life in all its stages, recognizing it as a gift from God.

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JULY | MONTH OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS: July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ a profound devotion that honors the redeeming power of Christ’s Blood shed for our salvation. Flowing from His Sacred Heart, this Blood is the price of our redemption, the source of grace in the sacraments, and the seal of the New Covenant. It reminds us that salvation was not won lightly, but through the ultimate sacrifice of love. This month, the Church invites us to meditate on the infinite value of Christ’s Blood poured out during His Passion from Gethsemane to Calvary and in every celebration of the Holy Eucharist. We are called to offer acts of reparation for the sins of the world and to intercede for the conversion of souls. Devotions such as the Litany of the Precious Blood, the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, and daily consecration to the Precious Blood help deepen our union with Christ crucified.

As Saint John Chrysostom once said, “The Precious Blood is the salvation of souls; it purifies, sanctifies, and strengthens.” In our trials, let us take refuge beneath the cross, trusting in the Blood that speaks of mercy, victory, and eternal life.

“Precious Blood of Jesus, save us and the whole world.”

O Most Precious Blood of Jesus, fountain of salvation, we adore You. Wash us clean of sin, protect us from evil, and draw us into deeper love and union with You. Amen. 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of July to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Cross, the cleansing power of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and the enduring fire of the Holy Spirit continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Heart of our Redeemer shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽

Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Bonaventure, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you! Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us. Amen 🙏🏽
