Greetings and blessings, beloved family!
I trust in the Lord; my soul trusts in his word. alleluia. “The blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church.” On this powerful double Memorial. Today, the Church honors the First Holy Martyrs of the Holy Roman Church, the nameless multitude of early Christians brutally put to death by Emperor Nero as scapegoats for the great fire of Rome. Alongside them, we celebrate Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli, an extraordinary Redemptorist priest and lawyer who used his brief 42 years of life to fiercely defend and care for the most abandoned on the fringes of society.
Let us look to these heroic witnesses and ponder a simple question for our Tuesday: Are we willing to stand firm for the truth of Christ when society pressures us to compromise, and do we look at the poor and marginalized with the compassionate eyes of the Savior?
BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:
Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading
Today’s Bible Readings: Tuesday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time | June 30, 2026
Reading I: Amos 3:1–8; 4:11–12
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 5:4b–6a, 6b–7, 8
Gospel: Matthew 8:23–27
GOSPEL READING ~ MATTHEW 8:23–27
“Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm.
As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him. Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep. They came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” He said to them, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. The men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?”
SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS
In the Gospel, Christ demonstrates His absolute sovereignty over cosmic and existential chaos, presenting The Illusion of Divine Absence and the Calming of the Violent Storm. As the disciples obediently follow Jesus into the boat, they are suddenly blindsided by a furious tempest that threatens to swallow them whole. In profound contrast to the roaring waves and the panicked cries of the seasoned fishermen, Jesus rests in absolute, peaceful sleep, a posture that tests the limits of human faith and exposes the disciples’ deepest fears of abandonment. When their desperate cries finally awaken Him, Christ gently rebukes their spiritual amnesia before addressing the storm, challenging them to see that fear is the direct symptom of a fragile faith. Standing up in divine majesty, He speaks a word of authority over the chaotic waters, instantly taming the elements into a profound, glassy calm. This miracle completely shatters the disciples’ limited understanding of Jesus, forcing them to marvel at His identity as the true Lord of creation, whose mere voice commands the winds and the sea.
The First Reading reveals the unyielding authority of the prophetic voice and the inevitability of divine justice, presenting The Urgent Voice of the Prophet and the Uncompromising Call to Repentance. Through the prophet Amos, God reminds the children of Israel of their unique, covenantal status, declaring that because they alone were favored and delivered from Egypt, they bear a higher level of accountability for their moral compromises. Utilizing a series of rapid, cause-and-effect questions, such as whether a lion roars without prey or a snare springs without a catch, Amos illustrates that God’s warnings are never random or empty. Just as the sound of a warning trumpet strikes natural fear into a city, the roar of the Lord through His prophets demands immediate internal conversion. Despite experiencing severe, historic upheavals meant to turn them back to righteousness, the people hardened their hearts. Consequently, God issues a startling, definitive ultimatum, commanding Israel to strip away their complacency and prepare themselves for a raw, inescapable face-to-face encounter with their Creator.
The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 5) serves as the perfect liturgical sanctuary for this day, praying: “Lead me in your justice, Lord.” It provides a powerful blueprint for morning prayer, showing a soul who deliberately brings its pleas expectantly before God at the very break of dawn. The psalmist anchors his confidence in the absolute holiness of God, declaring that wickedness, arrogance, and deceit cannot survive in the presence of the Almighty. Yet, while the prideful and the bloodthirsty are pushed away by their own lawlessness, the psalmist relies entirely on the boundless, overflowing mercy of God to safely enter His holy temple, finding his true orientation in a posture of reverent awe.
As we navigate the choppy waters of our own daily schedules, academic environments, and personal responsibilities on this Tuesday, let us honestly evaluate where we place our confidence when life begins to crash over us. Reflect today: When sudden, unexpected storms of financial worry, relational stress, or academic pressure threaten to swamp your peace, do you focus entirely on the height of the waves, or do you remember who is riding in the boat with you? Do you mistake God’s quietness in your life for indifference, or do you have the radical faith to trust His sovereign presence even when He seems silent? How can you surrender your anxieties to Him at dawn today, allowing His voice to hush the internal tempests that steal your joy?
Let us pray: Lord God of Hosts, Sovereign Ruler of the Cosmos and Peace of Our Souls, You are our safe harbor when the storms of life rage around us. Forgive us for the times we have allowed panic to blind us to Your presence, and for the moments we have cried out in faithless terror as if we were truly abandoned to perish. We thank You for Your unyielding word of truth, which cuts through the noise of this world and calls us out of our casual complacency. Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon us today; strengthen our little faith, and grant us the grace to stand firm when our foundations are shaken. Rebuke the winds of anxiety, fear, and doubt that threaten to drown our peace, and speaks Your divine calm into our hearts. Help us to hear Your prophetic voice clearly and to walk in Your justice every hour, confident that no storm can destroy those who are anchored in You. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

THE FIRST HOLY MARTYRS OF THE HOLY ROMAN CHURCH: The Memorial of the First Martyrs of the Holy Roman Church is celebrated in honor of the countless, nameless followers of Christ brutally killed by the mad Emperor Nero as scapegoats for the great fire in Rome between 64 and 68 A.D. These holy men and women, also called the “Protomartyrs of Rome,” endured unspeakable horrors—some were burned as living torches to light the imperial gardens, some were crucified, and others were clad in animal skins to be hunted by wild beasts. Dying even before Saints Peter and Paul, their extraordinary sacrifice and bold public witness amidst brutal persecution laid the indestructible foundation of the early Church, causing the Christian faith to grow rapidly and spread throughout the entire world.
PRAYER: God, You consecrated the copious firstfruits of the Roman Church with the blood of Martyrs. Grant that we may be strengthened in virtue by the agony of such a struggle and always rejoice in their victory. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
BLESSED GENNARO SARNELLI, PRIEST: Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli (1702–1744 A.D.) was a devout Neapolitan priest and lawyer who dedicated his life to serving the poor, the imprisoned, and those on the margins of society. A close friend and defender of Saint Alphonsus de Liguori, he joined the Redemptorists and directed his tremendous energy toward rescuing young girls from prostitution, teaching catechism to lay laborers, and writing extensive theological works on meditation and pastoral care. Despite dealing with fragile and failing health throughout his brief life, he preached tirelessly until his death at the age of 42, leaving an enduring legacy of compassionate social action and apostolic zeal.
PRAYER: Holy Redeemer, You walk with us as we strive to proclaim your Gospel with compassion to people who are poor and abandoned. As we reach out to those most in need, we look to Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli as a model and help. His ardent desire was to bring people on the fringes of society and Church to a deeper knowledge and love of You. We pray that his zeal will inspire and motivate us to share your redemption with those who are marginalized. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽
HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw deep inspiration today from the immense, foundational courage of the First Holy Martyrs of the Roman Church and the tireless, compassionate preaching and social charity of Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli, we also lift our hearts to the entire cloud of witnesses sharing this June 30th feast day. Today, we prayerfully honor and remember SAINT AIRICK, SAINT BASILIDES, SAINT BERTRAND, SAINT CLOTSINDIS, SAINT ERENTRUDE, SAINT ERENTRUDIS, SAINT EURGAIN, SAINT LUCINA, SAINT MARCIAN, SAINT MARTIAL, SAINT OSTIANUS, BLESSED PHILIP POWELL, BLESSED RAYMOND LULL, SAINT THEOBALD OF PROVINS, AND SAINT VINCENT YEN. Spanning across generations, from early ancient disciples who protected the bodies of the martyrs to brilliant philosophers, gentle hermits, holy royal women, and heroic missionary priests who faced supreme sacrifice in distant lands, their collective lives beautifully reflect the multifaceted grace of God. Remembering them reminds us that we belong to an incredibly vast, unbroken family of faith, encouraging us to boldly step out and shine Christ’s love in our own communities today.
Our Blessed Mother Mary, the First Holy Martyrs of the Roman Church, Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽
PRAYER INTENTION: FOR SPIRITUAL FORTITUDE AND COMPASSION
Lord God, on this holy Memorial, we place our personal petitions under the powerful protection of the First Holy Martyrs of Rome and Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli. We pray with deep gratitude for our apostolic faith, asking You to bless our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, and the global clergy with the courage and wisdom to shepherd Your flock in truth. Through the intercession of the Roman Protomartyrs, grant us the supernatural fortitude to stand firm in our Catholic faith against social pressures, and break any chains of fear or worry that keep us from living boldly for You. Through the intercession of Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli, ignite within our hearts a deep, compassionate zeal for those on the fringes of society. Protect our families, bless our daily work and academic studies, and teach us to reach out generously to the poor, the abandoned, and those trapped in destructive behaviors. May the unshakeable witness of Your saints guard our steps today, and may their charity inspire us to run our daily race with holy joy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JUNE | MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS: June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a powerful sign of Christ’s love and mercy. His Heart, pierced and crowned with thorns, burns with compassion for all humanity. This devotion calls us to return love for love to console His Heart and make reparation for sin and indifference. Rooted in the revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Church invites us this month to deepen our trust in Jesus, especially through First Friday devotions, the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and acts of consecration. His words echo in our hearts: “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29).
The Sacred Heart shows us what true love looks like patient, humble, and self-giving. In a world often cold and restless, we find peace and healing in His Heart.
“Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You”
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, teach us to love as You love. Fill our hearts with compassion, mercy, and a deep desire to follow You. Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽
Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of June to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Resurrection, the Ascension, and the fresh fire of the Holy Spirit, which we have so beautifully celebrated, continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Most Holy Trinity shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, the First Holy Martyrs of the Roman Church, Blessed Gennaro Sarnelli, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽
