Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

“Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.” Alleluia! Welcome to today’s reflection! Today, the liturgy invites us to recalibrate our hearts by shifting our focus from the shifting sands of earthly security to the eternal stability of God’s Kingdom. We see this radical detachment lived out by our saints: Saint Romuald, who traded worldly noise for the silence of the desert; Saint Juliana of Falconieri, who thirsted for the Eucharist above all earthly bread; and the twin martyrs Saints Gervase and Protase, who chose the crown of life over the comforts of this world. In today’s Gospel (Matthew 6:19–23), Jesus issues a clear warning against the “spiritual economics” of greed. He reminds us that earthly treasures—whether money, status, or acclaim—are destined for rot and theft. He urges us instead to invest in the heavenly realm, where our hearts will naturally follow. This call to singular vision is mirrored in the First Reading (2 Kings 11:1–4, 9–18, 20), where the survival of the young king Joash and the demolition of the altars of Baal show us what happens when we prioritize God’s covenant over the rule of tyrants. As we lean into today’s Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 132), we anchor ourselves in the truth: “The Lord has chosen Zion for his dwelling.”

Where is your heart truly anchored today? Are you spending your limited energy defending temporary comforts, or are you storing up treasure in the only place where it cannot be stolen? Is your spiritual eye clear and focused on the Light of Christ, or is it clouded by the anxieties of the world?

BIBLE READINGS FOR TODAY’S HOLY MASS:

Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Friday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time | June 19, 2026
Reading I: 2 Kings 11:1–4, 9–18, 20
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 132:11, 12, 13–14, 17–18
Gospel: Matthew 6:19–23

Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 6:19–23

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS

In the Gospel, Christ targets the deep-seated anxieties of human acquisition, presenting The Spiritual Economics of Incorruptible Treasure and the Metaphysics of Singular Vision. Issuing a direct counter-cultural mandate, Jesus exposes the ultimate vulnerability of earthly wealth, noting that even the most heavily fortified material assets are constantly prey to the slow sabotage of rot and the violent disruption of thieves. To break free from this cycle of preservation anxiety, He commands His followers to transfer their investments entirely into the heavenly realm, establishing an unbending law of spiritual geography: the location of a person’s treasure automatically dictates the resting place of their heart. Furthermore, Christ links this internal alignment to the clarity of our spiritual vision, framing the eye as the singular lens through which divine light enters the soul. A sound, undivided eye floods the entire body with illumination, whereas a compromised, grasping eye plunges the self into an interior blindness so deep that even one’s perceived light becomes an suffocating darkness.

The First Reading provides a dramatic, fast-paced chronicle of survival and historical restoration, exposing The Tactical Safeguarding of the Davidic Line and the Violent Overthrow of Usurped Authority. Following the death of Ahaziah, the murderous Queen Mother Athaliah launches a ruthless campaign to exterminate the entire royal seed in order to secure her own illegitimate rule over Judah. Yet, this tyrannical plot is quietly broken by the courageous Princess Jehosheba, who risks her life to steal away the infant Prince Joosh and conceal him within the hidden chambers of the Temple for six years. When the moment of divine maturity arrives, the High Priest Jehoiada masterfully coordinates a covert, armed insurrection, surrounding the altar with loyal guards and crowning the young heir amidst a sudden explosion of trumpets and public acclaim. Athaliah’s frantic cries of treason are instantly met with the swift edge of justice outside the sacred precinct, culminating in the complete demolition of the local temples of Baal and a solemn renewal of Judah’s covenant to remain the Lord’s distinct people.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 132) beautifully serves as the unyielding theological foundation for this historical restoration, declaring: “The Lord has chosen Zion for his dwelling.” It recalls the unalterable, sworn oath that the Almighty made to King David, promising that an uninterrupted line of his direct descendants would occupy the throne so long as they remained constant in keeping the divine covenant. This liturgical text beautifully connects the readings: it explains why the hidden survival of the boy-king Joash in the First Reading was a structural necessity, proving that God will actively clothes his anointed’s enemies with shame while ensuring the royal crown continues to shine. By highlighting Zion as the Lord’s permanent resting place, the psalm reinforces the Gospel’s challenge to invest entirely in the enduring, sovereign reality of God’s house rather than building temporary, corruptible kingdoms on the shifting sands of human ambition.

As we look at our daily financial priorities, our secret anxieties, and the things that dominate our visual attention, let us evaluate what we are truly building. Reflect today: Where is your treasure actually located—are you spending your energy defending corruptible earthly comforts, or are you storing up wealth in heaven through quiet acts of charity and hidden devotion? Like Jehosheba hiding the young king, do you have the courage to safeguard what is holy and true in your life even when surrounded by a hostile, compromising culture? Is your spiritual eye single-mindedly focused on the light of Christ, or is it split and darkened by a constant craving for worldly validation and material security?

Let us pray: Lord God, our Supreme King and Eternal Dwelling Place, You are the faithful protector who never goes back on Your promises, shielding Your children from the destructive plots of this world. Forgive us for our short-sightedness, our material greed, and the frantic ways we store up earthly treasures that are destined to rot and fade away. Heal our spiritual vision today; cure our eyes of the badness of comparison, envy, and secular distraction, so that our entire being may be flooded with Your holy light. Give us the bold, protective faith of Jehosheba and Jehoiada to tear down the altars of Baal in our hearts, making a complete, uncompromised covenant to belong to You alone. Teach us the true beauty of being poor in spirit, that by letting go of our tight grip on transient wealth, we may find our hearts securely resting in the incorruptible treasure of Your heavenly Kingdom. You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT ROMUALD, ABBOT: Saint Romuald (c. 956–1027 A.D.) was a noble Italian monk, ascetic reformer, and the illustrious founder of the Camaldolese Order who masterfully combined the strict solitude of eremitical life with the structure of monastic community. Born into an aristocratic family in Ravenna, his early youth was thoroughly consumed by worldly pleasures until a defining crisis shattered his complacency: he was forced by his father, Sergius, to witness him kill a rival in a duel. Overwhelmed by deep horror and moving in vicarious penance, Romuald fled to the Benedictine Monastery of San Apollinare to expiate the crime as if it were his own, eventually being elected abbot. For the next thirty years, he traversed the Italian peninsula, founding and reforming numerous hermitages and monasteries, culminating in his masterpiece, the ultra-austere Order of Camaldoli in Tuscany. Throughout his journey, Romuald endured relentless assaults from demonic forces, multiple assassination attempts, and malicious calumnies from lax clergy, all of which he bore in absolute, unyielding silence and heroic patience. Increasing his rigorous self-mortification in his final years, he died completely alone in his cell at the monastery of Castro in 1027, leaving an enduring blueprint for spiritual warfare and total detachment.

PRAYER: O God, who through Saint Romuald renewed the manner of life of hermits in Your Church, grant that, denying ourselves and following Christ, we may merit to reach the heavenly realms on high. Give us his profound spirit of vicarious penance to make reparation for the sins of our families and our society. Deliver us from the assaults of detraction and demonic temptation, keeping us vigilantly rooted in prayer, so that our lives may become a pure, uncompromised sacrifice pleasing to Your sight. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINT JULIANA OF FALCONIERI, RELIGIOUS: Saint Juliana of Falconieri (1270–1341 A.D.) was an angelic Florentine noblewoman, a champion of apostolic charity, and the foundress of the Servite Mantellate whose life was a breathtaking testament to Eucharistic intimacy and holy modesty. Born in answer to persistent prayer to a wealthy family, she grew up under the spiritual guidance of her uncle, Saint Alexis Falconieri, displaying such profound innocence that the mere mention of sin caused her to physically tremble. At fourteen, she rejected a prestigious marriage offer to become the very first member of the Mantellatae—the female branch of the Servite Order—under the direction of Saint Philip Benizi. Functioning as a radical servant rather than a mistress to her sisters, Juliana spent her days reconciling bitter enemies, converting hardened sinners, and spending whole days rapt in deep mystical ecstasies. In her old age, she was struck down by a debilitating stomach illness that prevented her from swallowing any food, leaving her in agonizing pain and grieving deeply because she could no longer receive Holy Communion. On her deathbed at age seventy, she begged for the Blessed Sacrament to be brought near; it was reverently laid on a corporal over her heart, whereupon she expired, the Sacred Host miraculously vanished, and its precise form was found permanently stamped into her flesh.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, we thank You for giving us Saint Juliana Falconieri as an unyielding icon of Eucharistic love and pure interior devotion. Grant us, through her powerful intercession, her deep modesty and an absolute intolerance for the stains of sin in our lives. Heal us of our bodily ills, and fill our souls with an unquenchable hunger for the Holy Eucharist, so that our hearts, like hers, may become a permanent sanctuary entirely stamped with the presence of Your divine Son. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

SAINTS GERVASE AND PROTASE, MARTYRS: Saints Gervase and Protase (2nd century A.D.) were noble twin brothers, courageous deacons, and the protomartyrs of Milan whose blood sealed their absolute fidelity to Christ and whose miraculous discovery fortified the early Church. Born to holy Christian parents—Saint Vitalis and Saint Valeria—who had both been brutally executed for the Faith, the twins inherited an uncompromised spiritual lineage that refused to bow to pagan imperial decrees. Arrested during a fierce wave of Roman persecution in Milan, they were thrown into a subterranean prison, subjected to brutal tortures, and condemned to death for refusing to sacrifice to false idols. Saint Gervase was mercilessly scourged with lead-weighted whips until he died under the blows, while Saint Protase, after surviving a brutal beating, was summarily beheaded. Their sacred relics remained completely hidden from human eyes for over two centuries until the year 386 A.D., when their exact location was revealed in a supernatural dream to Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan. The subsequent exhumation of their incorrupt, giant frames was accompanied by a massive explosion of spectacular miracles—including the instant restoration of sight to a blind man—witnessed and fiercely defended by both Saint Ambrose and Saint Augustine, cementing their role as heavenly protectors of the faithful.

PRAYER: O God, who year by year gladdens us by the solemnity of Your holy martyrs Gervase and Protase, mercifully grant that we, who rejoice in their merits, may be thoroughly inspired by their unyielding examples. Give us the ancestral fortitude to carry the mantle of faith handed down by our elders without fear or compromise. Grant us the grace to discover what has been stolen from us by the enemy, and let the power of Your Holy Spirit break out in our lives through spectacular healings and the total defeat of our spiritual adversaries. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

HONORING THE SAINTS OF THE DAY:
As we draw deep inspiration today from the solitary devotion of Saint Romuald, the compassionate service of Saint Juliana of Falconieri, and the ancient, unbreakable courage of Saints Gervase and Protase, we also turn our hearts to the entire cloud of witnesses sharing this June 19th feast day. Today, we prayerfully honor and remember SAINT DEODATUS, SAINT DEODATUS OF NEVERS, SAINT DIDIER, SAINT HILDEGRIN, BLESSED HUMPHREY MIDDLEMORE, BLESSED SEBASTIAN NEWDIGATE, BLESSED THOMAS WOODHOUSE, SAINT URSICINUS OF RAVENNA, BLESSED WILLIAM EXMEW, AND SAINT ZOSIMUS. Spanning across the history of the Church, from early ancient physicians and steadfast martyrs who stood firm against persecution to pioneering missionary bishops and the heroic Carthusian monks who laid down their lives for the truth, their collective witness beautifully showcases the rich diversity of God’s grace. Remembering them reminds us that we are supported by an incredibly vast family of faith, encouraging us to walk our own path toward holiness with confidence today.

Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Romuald, Saint Juliana of Falconieri, Saints Gervase and Protase, and all the Saints we celebrate today ~ Pray for us. 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTION: FOR INCORRUPTIBLE TREASURE, SINGULAR VISION, AND UNCOMPROMISING FIDELITY

On this Friday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time, we step into the sanctuary of Your presence, O Lord, anchoring our hearts in the unalterable promise that You have chosen us for Your dwelling. We lift up all fathers, the poor, the lonely, and those battling terminal illnesses, asking that Your crown shine upon them and clothe their anxieties with Your peace. Through the intercession of Saint Romuald (Patron of hermits and spiritual vigilance), Saint Juliana of Falconieri (Patron of sick people and bodily ills), and Saints Gervase and Protase (Patron of the discovery of thieves and haymakers), we lay our petitions before Your throne. Grant us, Lord, the deep spirit of penance found in Saint Romuald to detach from worldly pleasures, the profound Eucharistic hunger of Saint Juliana to anchor our souls in Your presence, and the ancestral fortitude of the twin martyrs to stand firm against worldly corruption. Strip us of the material greed condemned in today’s Gospel, and grant us a sound, undivided eye that fills our entire being with Your divine light, rather than storing up corruptible treasures on earth. Like the hidden prince in the First Reading, safeguard what is holy within us, and give us the courage to tear down the false altars of our lives so that we may remain Your uncompromised covenant people forever. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏽

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF JUNE | MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS: June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a powerful sign of Christ’s love and mercy. His Heart, pierced and crowned with thorns, burns with compassion for all humanity. This devotion calls us to return love for love to console His Heart and make reparation for sin and indifference. Rooted in the revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Church invites us this month to deepen our trust in Jesus, especially through First Friday devotions, the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and acts of consecration. His words echo in our hearts: “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29).

The Sacred Heart shows us what true love looks like patient, humble, and self-giving. In a world often cold and restless, we find peace and healing in His Heart.

“Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You”

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, teach us to love as You love. Fill our hearts with compassion, mercy, and a deep desire to follow You. Amen 🙏🏽

We pray for the repose of the gentle souls of our loved ones and souls of all the faithful departed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for His love and the gift of this glorious day, we offer Him a prayer of gratitude for the graces of the past months and entrust this month of June to His loving providence. We pray for God’s grace and mercy as we anchor ourselves in the steady, life-giving rhythm of Ordinary Time. May the profound mysteries of the Resurrection, the Ascension, and the fresh fire of the Holy Spirit, which we have so beautifully celebrated, continue to help us seek You in every moment of our lives. May the peace, hope, and divine communion that flow from the Most Holy Trinity shape our steps, inform our decisions, and strengthen our resolve to live each day in the light of Christ and the daily guidance of the Advocate. As we journey onward through the rest of this month, may God bless our families and loved ones, and may His light continue to shine brightly in every home. Let us draw closer to God and be renewed through the joy of the Gospel, the gifts of the Spirit, and generosity to the poor. May God keep us all safe and well during these challenging times. Wishing us all a spiritually enriching, most blessed, and grace-filled journey ahead. Amen. 🙏🏽
