Greetings and blessings, beloved family!

Today, Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent, the Church invites us to hear God’s comforting promise and prepare the way of the Lord in our hearts. God calls us to speak tenderly, assuring that His mercy brings hope and restoration to all people, and that His Word stands forever. The Responsorial Psalm reminds us that “The Lord our God comes with power”, inviting all creation to rejoice in His saving presence. In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches about God’s tender care for every soul, assuring us that no one is ever lost to Him and that He rejoices when even one stray sheep is found. On this day, we also honor the Memorial of Saint Juan Diego, Hermit; Saint Peter Fourier, Priest; and Saint Leocadia of Toledo, Virgin and Martyr, whose humility, faith, and courage reflect God’s guiding love. Through their example and intercession, we are inspired to trust in God’s providence, follow His ways, and prepare our hearts to welcome Christ this Advent.

We joyfully thank God for the gift of life and for leading us safely into the month of December. As we continue this sacred journey of faith, we give thanks for God’s boundless mercy and the hope of eternal life promised to those who believe in Him. May the witness of the Saints and the faith of our loved ones inspire us to live each day in holiness, humility, and love. This month of December, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, invites us to grow in grace and devotion, following her example of purity, obedience, and complete trust in God’s plan. Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of All Saints, may God fill our hearts with hope, strengthen our faith, and guide us in holiness throughout this Advent season. May this month bring light to our minds, peace to our hearts, and strength to our souls. Amen 🙏🏽

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” ~ Matthew 5:4

We join our Holy Father Pope Leo XIV to pray for the gentle repose of the souls of our dear beloved late Pope Francis, the Cardinals, Bishops, Priests and Religious who have gone to be with the Lord. We also remember in prayer all who began this journey of life with us but are no longer here. We pray for the gentle repose of the souls of our loved ones who recently passed away, and we continue to pray for the souls in Purgatory; lost souls. For the repose of the souls of all the faithful departed, may the Lord receive them into the light of Eternal Kingdom.

“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His Saints.” ~ Psalm 116:15

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their gentle souls through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace with our Lord Jesus Christ… Amen 🙏🏽

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD: In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters. In this life, you embraced them with your tender love; deliver them now from every evil, and bid them eternal rest. The old order has passed away: welcome them into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain, but fullness of peace and joy with your Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen🙏🏽✝️🕯✝️🕯✝️🕯

Lord Almighty, we lift our hearts in gratitude for Your unfailing love, protection, and mercy that carried us through the past month. We entrust the days of December into Your hands, asking for Your blessings, guidance, and peace upon our lives and families. May this month be for us a time of renewed faith, deeper hope, and overflowing joy. We pray especially for all families, for children, parents, and teachers, that they may be strengthened and protected. Bless those who will celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, new opportunities, and milestones this month, and comfort those who enter it with heavy hearts or struggles. Lord, go before us, walk beside us, and remain with us always, now and forever. Amen. 🙏🏽

Today, we humbly pray for the poor, abandoned, and those in need, for all those who are marginalized in our society. For those who are imprisoned, especially those who are unjustly imprisoned. We pray for charitable organizations, asking God’s blessing upon their mission and we lift our prayers for peace, love, justice and unity in our families, marriages and our world. May God protect us all and keep us safe and united in peace, love and faith. Amen 🙏🏽

Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary on this special Feast day, we lift our prayers for the protection, safety and well-being of healthcare professionals, educators, missionaries, pilots, and all travelers. We ask for healing for the sick and dying, especially those who are suffering from cancers and other terminal diseases, strength for the weary, peace in troubled homes, and provision for all in need. Guide our steps in righteousness, protect us from harm, and fill our hearts with faith, joy, and gratitude. May this month draw us closer to Your will, and may every day be a testimony of Your goodness and mercy in our lives. We begin this month with trust in Your unfailing love, Lord, and we surrender all that lies ahead into Your hands. Amen 🙏🏾

We continue to pray for the Church, the Clergy, our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, the Cardinals, Bishops, all Priests, that they be sanctified in their ministry to God’s people. We pray for persecuted Christians, for the conversion of sinners, and Christians all over the world suffering from political and religious unrest.

Through the intercession of St. Joseph, we pray for all fathers, mothers, workers, and all those who labor in this world. May the Lord bless the work of their hands, and may God’s grace and mercy be with us all during this season of Advent. Wishing us all and our loved ones a joyful, peaceful, and grace-filled month of December. 🙏🏽

ADVENT SEASON AND IT’S SIGNIFICANCE IN THE LITURGICAL YEAR | https://dailyreflectionswithphilomena.com/advent-season-and-its-significance-in-the-liturgical-year/

Advent is the sacred four-week season that opens the Church’s Liturgical Year, inviting us to prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus Christ and to look forward with hope to His Second Coming. The word Advent comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “coming” or “arrival,” reminding us that this season is marked by both joyful expectation and spiritual readiness. Traditionally, Advent is represented by the wreath and its four candles symbols of hope, peace, joy, and love, guiding us week by week as we reflect on the unfolding mystery of our salvation.

As we enter this holy season, the Church calls us to step back from the noise and hurry that often fill this time of year. Advent is not merely a countdown to Christmas; it is a grace-filled invitation to renew our relationship with God, deepen our prayer life, and open our hearts to the transforming light of Christ. Through Scripture, quiet reflection, and acts of charity, we are encouraged to grow in faith and to make room for the Lord who desires to dwell within us. This season also reconnects us with the longings of God’s people throughout history, those who waited in hope for the Messiah and trusted in God’s promises even in times of darkness.

As we journey through these weeks, may Advent help us rediscover what truly matters: the gift of God’s love made flesh in Jesus Christ. May it inspire us to embrace a spirit of watchfulness, simplicity, and gratitude, allowing Christ’s light to shine through our words and actions. And as we prepare to celebrate His birth, may our hearts be renewed with the hope that He who came once in humility will come again in glory.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, as we begin this season of Advent, open our hearts to Your presence and fill us with the hope, peace, joy, and love that only You can give. Teach us to wait for You with faith, to prepare for You with sincerity, and to welcome You with humility and gratitude. May Your light guide our steps and renew our spirits as we journey toward Christmas. Amen 🙏🏾

ADVENT PRAYER – SECOND WEEK: The prayer that follows is to be repeated each day of the second week. After the prayer, the oldest child lights the first and second purple candles.
LEADER: O Lord, stir up our hearts that we may prepare for Thy only begotten Son, that through His coming we may be made worthy to serve Thee with pure minds. Through Christ our Lord.
ALL: Amen. 🙏🏽

(The two candles are allowed to burn during the evening meals of the second week.)

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS:

Bible Readings for today’s Holy Mass, Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent | USCCB | https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading

Today’s Bible Readings: Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent | December 9, 2025
Reading 1: Isaiah 40:1–11
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 96:1–2, 3 and 10ac, 11–12, 13
Gospel: Matthew 18:12–14

Gospel Reading ~ Matthew 18:12–14

“It is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.”

“Jesus said to His disciples: “What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.”

Today’s Gospel draws us into the heart of God, revealing a love that notices, pursues, and rejoices over every soul. Jesus uses the tender image of a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep in safety to search for the one that has wandered. This is not a reckless shepherd; it is a shepherd driven by love, compassion, and personal concern. Each sheep matters. Each soul is known. Each life is precious. The lost sheep is not scolded, punished, or pushed away. Instead, the shepherd goes after it, he searches, calls out, enters the rough paths, and carries it home with joy. Jesus reveals that this is the very heart of the Father: a God who notices when we drift, who seeks us when we become entangled in sin or sorrow, and who rejoices—not resents—when we return.

Advent reminds us that God’s search for us is not passive; it is active, deliberate, and filled with longing. The incarnation itself is the ultimate expression of this love: Christ entering our world to rescue what is lost, to gather what is scattered, and to lift what has fallen. Many of us have wandered in our own ways, through discouragement, unbelief, compromise, or distraction. Yet today’s Gospel assures us that no distance is too far and no wound too deep for the Shepherd who comes in search of us. Jesus ends with a powerful truth: “It is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.” God’s desire is always restoration, never condemnation; healing, never abandonment. The tenderness and persistence of the shepherd invites us to trust the God who never gives up on us.

In the First Reading, Isaiah’s message today begins with one of the most comforting lines in Scripture: “Comfort, give comfort to my people.” This is God’s heart expressed anew, a God who consoles, forgives, restores, and leads His people gently. Isaiah speaks to a people weary from exile, guilt, and sorrow. Yet God declares that their punishment has ended and their sins have been forgiven. This divine consolation points forward to the coming of Christ, the Good Shepherd who gathers the broken, the weary, and the wounded into His arms. Isaiah then announces a dramatic transformation: mountains lowered, valleys raised, rough places made smooth. This imagery speaks of the interior work God wants to accomplish within us, removing pride, lifting the discouraged, and smoothing the rough edges of our hearts so that Christ may find a straight path into our lives. Advent is the season of this inward preparation. The reading concludes with a profoundly gentle image: “Like a shepherd he feeds his flock; in his arms he gathers the lambs, carrying them in his bosom, leading the ewes with care.” God is mighty, yet tender; powerful, yet compassionate. This balance prepares our hearts to meet Christ who comes as both Savior and Shepherd.

Reflecting on the Responsorial Psalm, rhe Psalm bursts with joy, calling all creation to sing because “the Lord our God comes with power.” This power, however, is not harsh or destructive, it is the power that saves, heals, restores justice, and brings peace. The psalmist calls the seas, the plains, and the forests to rejoice, reminding us that the coming of Christ renews not just individuals but the whole world. “He shall rule the world with justice.” In a time when injustice, confusion, and suffering weigh heavily, this promise of God’s righteous and faithful rule fills the heart with hope. Advent invites us to join the hymn of creation, trusting in the One who comes to set all things right.

As we reflect on the words of the Sacred Scriptures today, we are called to ask ourselves, where in my life have I wandered like the lost sheep, relying on my own strength or drifting from God’s gentle guidance? Do I believe that God actively seeks me when I am lost, or do I hide in guilt or fear? Am I allowing the Lord to prepare a straight path in my heart this Advent, leveling pride, lifting discouragement, and smoothing out spiritual roughness? Do I trust that God rejoices over my return, and do I let His compassion shape how I treat others who are struggling or lost? As we continue our Advent journey, let today’s readings draw us into a deeper awareness of God’s unfailing tenderness. The Father who speaks comfort through Isaiah, the Shepherd who searches tirelessly for the one who is lost, and the Lord who comes with power and justice, this is the God who walks with us. Allow His voice to calm every fear and His mercy to draw you back from every wandering path. Open your heart to the quiet work of grace that prepares the way for Christ’s coming, filling what is empty, lifting what is weary, and smoothing what is rough within you. And as you receive His compassionate love, become a reflection of that same love to others, especially to those who feel lost, forgotten, or far from hope. Walk into this day with confidence, knowing that the Shepherd of your soul goes before you, carries you, and rejoices over you. May God in His infinite grace and mercy, grant us His grace as we remain steadfast in faith and continue to serve Him in spirit and in truth. 🙏🏽

Lord Jesus, Shepherd of our souls, You never tire of seeking what is lost or healing what is wounded. Today, gather us close to Your heart and carry us with the tenderness Isaiah proclaims. Level every mountain of pride within us and raise every valley of discouragement so that Your grace may find a straight path to our hearts. Give us the courage to return when we wander, the humility to trust Your mercy, and the faith to believe that Your joy is found in our restoration. As we journey through this Advent season, fill us anew with hope, peace, and the quiet assurance that You never give up on us. Amen.🙏🏾

MEMORIAL OF SAINT JUAN DIEGO, HERMIT; SAINT PETER FOURIER, PRIEST; AND SAINT LEOCADIA OF TOLEDO, VIRGIN AND MARTYR – FEAST DAY: DECEMBER 9TH: Today, the Church honors Saint Juan Diego (Patron of Indigenous Peoples), Saint Peter Fourier (Patron of Educators and Parish Reform), and Saint Leocadia of Toledo (Patroness of the City and Archdiocese of Toledo). Three saints from three different lands and eras, yet all united by a profound openness to God’s grace. Their lives remind us that holiness is not reserved for one state of life, it is found in the quiet obedience of a poor layman, the pastoral dedication of a priest, and the courageous fidelity of a virgin-martyr. As we continue the sacred journey of Advent, their witness encourages us to prepare our hearts for Christ with humility, courage, service, and unwavering trust. Through their intercession, may we walk more faithfully with God and become instruments of His love in our world. 🙏🏾

SAINT JUAN DIEGO, HERMIT: Saint Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin (1474–1548) stands as a radiant example of humility and simple faith. Born into the indigenous Chichimeca culture in Mexico, he embraced the Christian faith with sincerity after hearing the Gospel preached by early missionaries. His life took a profound turn in December 1531 when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him on Tepeyac Hill, entrusting him with the message of hope, compassion, and unity for the people of the Americas. Though he was poor, shy, and regarded as insignificant by society, Heaven chose him for a mission that would touch countless lives.

Despite disbelief from authorities, Juan Diego remained obedient and steadfast, carrying Mary’s message with a quiet strength. The miraculous image imprinted on his tilma continues to be one of the most powerful signs of God’s love. In his later years, Juan Diego withdrew to a hermitage near the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, dedicating himself to prayer, service, and welcoming pilgrims.

PRAYER: O God, who revealed Your tender love through the humility of Saint Juan Diego, help us to trust in Your plans even when we feel small or unworthy. Through his intercession, may we welcome Mary’s guidance and walk in simplicity of heart. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏾

SAINT PETER FOURIER, PRIEST: Saint Peter Fourier (1565–1640) was a priest whose entire ministry was shaped by wisdom, compassion, and deep pastoral dedication. Born in France, he joined the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine and later became a much-loved parish priest in the small town of Mattaincourt. There, he transformed an indifferent and struggling parish into a thriving spiritual community, not through force but through patient teaching, constant prayer, and genuine love for his people.

He understood the importance of education in shaping both faith and society, and with Blessed Alix Le Clerc he founded the Congregation of Notre Dame, dedicated to the free education of girls—an extraordinary mission for his time. His reforms extended beyond schools to liturgy, parish life, and moral renewal, reflecting a priestly heart completely given to God and His people. Peter Fourier lived through war, poverty, and political turmoil, yet he remained a gentle pastor who placed everything under the guidance of Divine Providence. His life reminds us that true reform flows from holiness, charity, and perseverance.

PRAYER: Lord God, who strengthened Saint Peter Fourier with zeal for education, renewal, and pastoral care, grant that his example may inspire us to serve with humility and to build communities rooted in truth and charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏾

SAINT LEOCADIA OF TOLEDO, VIRGIN AND MARTYR: Saint Leocadia (d. 303) was a young noblewoman from Toledo, Spain, who lived during the ferocious persecutions ordered by Emperor Diocletian. Even as many believers were being intimidated or tortured, she boldly professed her faith in Christ and refused every attempt to persuade her to renounce Him. Her steadfastness led to her imprisonment, where she endured cold, hunger, and hardship with remarkable serenity.

Her witness gave courage to the Christian community of Toledo, who looked to her as a light in a dark and violent time. According to tradition, her jail cell became a place of profound prayer where she offered her sufferings for the strength of the Church. Her holy death sealed her testimony of love, making her one of the earliest and most cherished martyrs of Spain. For centuries, devotion to Saint Leocadia inspired the faithful, especially in moments of persecution or fear. Her life reminds us that no earthly power can silence a soul anchored in Christ.

PRAYER: O God, who filled Saint Leocadia with heroic courage and unwavering faith, grant that through her intercession we may stand firm in Your truth and trust in Your presence even in times of trial. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏾

SAINT ANDREW PRAYER: St. Andrew Christmas Novena begins on the Feast of St. Andrew (November 30th). The following beautiful prayer is traditionally recited fifteen times a day until Christmas. This is a very meditative prayer that helps us increase our awareness of the real focus of Christmas and helps us prepare ourselves spiritually for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires, [here mention your request] through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. Amen”🙏🏾

DEVOTION OF THE MONTH OF DECEMBER | MONTH OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION: December is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a celebration of God’s most wondrous work in preparing a pure and spotless Mother for His Son. From the first moment of her existence, Mary was preserved from the stain of Original Sin by a singular grace and privilege, in view of the merits of Christ’s saving passion. She is the “all-holy,” full of grace, the radiant dawn announcing the coming of our Savior, and the perfect model of what God desires for every Christian—a life transformed by grace.

This devotion reaches its summit on December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, one of the most cherished Marian feasts of the Church. Throughout this month, the Church invites us to contemplate Mary’s unique call, her purity of heart, and her total openness to God’s will. As we enter the Advent season and prepare for the birth of Christ, Mary stands before us as the first and most faithful disciple—the woman whose “yes” changed the course of salvation history.

In honoring Mary Immaculate, we are drawn into the mystery of God’s redeeming love and reminded that holiness is possible for us too through God’s grace. May this month awaken in us a deeper devotion to the Mother of God and inspire us to imitate her virtues of humility, purity, obedience, and trust.

“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” 🙏🏽

PRAYER INTENTIONS: As we rejoice in the compassion of the Good Shepherd who seeks the lost and carries them gently back to safety, we lift our hearts in prayer for all who feel distant from God or weighed down by life’s burdens. May the Father’s comforting voice, announced through the prophet Isaiah, bring strength to the weary and hope to the discouraged. Through the humble witness of Saint Juan Diego, may we learn to welcome God’s message with faith. Through Saint Peter Fourier’s generosity, may we grow in charity toward the poor and forgotten. And through the steadfast courage of Saint Leocadia, may we remain faithful even in trials. We pray for our families, our parish community, and our world, that justice may flourish, peace may deepen, and every wandering soul may be found and embraced by God’s mercy. May the Lord’s tender love guide us in this season of Advent, preparing our hearts for Christ’s coming.

LET US PRAY:

My most compassionate Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd Who never tires of pursuing Your straying sheep. Your deepest desire is to bring them home. When I stray, help me to remember Your burning love for me so that I will never hesitate to turn back to You. When others around me stray, please give me Your Heart, dear Lord, so that I may love them so deeply that You draw them out of their sin. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen 🙏🏽

O God of compassion and everlasting hope, look kindly upon Your people who wait for the coming of Your Son. Strengthen us with the comfort You promise, renew our spirits with Your gentle mercy, and lead us along the path of righteousness. Through the example of Saint Juan Diego, Saint Peter Fourier, and Saint Leocadia, may we walk humbly, love generously, and remain faithful in every circumstance. Gather us close to Your heart as the Good Shepherd gathers His flock, and make us instruments of Your peace in our world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏🏾

Save Us, Savior of the World. Our Blessed Mother Mary, Saint Juan Diego, Saint Peter Fourier, and Saint Leocadia of Toledo ~ Pray for us 🙏🏾

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us. Amen 🙏🏽

Thanking God for the precious gift of this new day, and on this Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent, may our hearts remain open to the quiet working of the Holy Spirit who continues to guide, renew, and strengthen us each day. As we begin the month of December, we lift our hearts in gratitude for the blessings of the past and entrust the days ahead into God’s loving hands. In this sacred season of hopeful expectation, may our Advent journey be filled with light, peace, safety, and the quiet joy that comes from knowing that Christ, our long-awaited Savior, walks with us always. Alleluia! May God grant journey mercies to all those traveling this week. Have a blessed, safe, grace-filled Tuesday, a fruitful season of Advent, a fulfilling week ahead and a peaceful month of December 🙏🏽
