On February 11th, the Church observes the World Day of the Sick, a day established by Pope St. John Paul II in 1992 as a time for prayer, reflection, and acts of compassion toward the sick and suffering. This day is also the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, commemorating the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Bernadette Soubirous in 1858 at Lourdes, France—a site that has since become a place of healing and pilgrimage for those seeking physical and spiritual renewal.
The World Day of the Sick is a reminder of Christ’s love and mercy for the suffering and an invitation to care for those in need, whether through medical assistance, emotional support, or prayer.
Event Highlights:
- Holy Mass & Anointing of the Sick: A special Mass will be offered for the sick, caregivers, and healthcare workers, with an opportunity for the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick for those in need.
- Prayers for Healing: The faithful will unite in prayer, asking for the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes for the sick, the elderly, and those facing difficult health challenges.
- Reflection on Compassion and Care: A reflection will highlight the importance of showing love and kindness to the sick, inspired by the example of Jesus, the Divine Healer.
- Acts of Mercy: Parishioners will be encouraged to visit or assist the sick, offer comfort to caregivers, or support medical missions and charitable organizations.
As we honor the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and observe the World Day of the Sick, let us turn to Mary, the Health of the Sick, seeking her intercession for healing, strength, and hope. All are welcome to join this special day of prayer and service.
