00:00 - 23:59

Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the Sacred Paschal Triduum, the three most solemn days in the Church’s liturgical calendar. On this night, we commemorate the Last Supper, when Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood, and gave His disciples the commandment of love and service.

The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin “Mandatum,” meaning commandment, referring to Jesus’ words:

“A new commandment I give you: love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)

Key Moments of Maundy Thursday:

  • The Institution of the Eucharist: Jesus offers His Body and Blood, saying, “Do this in memory of Me” (Luke 22:19), establishing the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

  • The Washing of the Feet: A profound act of humility and service, reminding us that true leadership is found in serving others.

  • The Beginning of Christ’s Passion: The liturgy ends with the solemn transfer of the Blessed Sacrament, recalling Jesus’ agony in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Event Highlights:

  • Mass of the Lord’s Supper: The central focus of the celebration, recalling the Last Supper and Christ’s institution of the Eucharist.

  • Washing of the Feet: In imitation of Christ, the priest washes the feet of selected individuals, emphasizing humility and service.

  • Eucharistic Procession & Adoration: The Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession to the Altar of Repose, where the faithful are invited to spend time in prayer, remembering Jesus’ agony in the garden.

  • The Stripping of the Altar: After Mass, the altar is stripped bare, symbolizing Jesus’ abandonment and preparation for His Passion.

A Call to Reflection:

  • Do I truly appreciate the gift of the Eucharist in my life?

  • How do I follow Jesus’ example of humility and service?

  • Will I remain with Jesus in prayer and watchfulness as He suffers for the salvation of the world?

As we enter the Paschal Triduum, let us follow Jesus in love and faith, preparing our hearts for His Passion, Death, and Resurrection.

All are invited to participate in this sacred and solemn liturgy.
