Event: Third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday)
Theme: Rejoice, for the Lord is Near
Join us on December 15th for the Third Sunday of Advent, also known as Gaudete Sunday. The name “Gaudete” comes from the Latin word for “rejoice,” as the Church celebrates the joy and hope that come with the nearness of Christ’s birth. The rose-colored candle on the Advent wreath is lit, symbolizing the light of Christ breaking into the darkness and filling our hearts with joy.
This Sunday reminds us to take a moment from our preparation and anticipation to rejoice in God’s love and faithfulness. We are invited to reflect on how we can share this joy with others, especially those in need of hope and encouragement.
Event Highlights:
- Holy Mass: The liturgy will feature readings filled with joy and encouragement, such as Isaiah’s proclamation of glad tidings and St. Paul’s exhortation to “rejoice always” (Philippians 4:4-7). The homily will focus on embracing the joy of the season and living as witnesses to God’s love in the world.
- Lighting of the Advent Wreath: During Mass, the rose-colored candle on the Advent wreath will be lit, signifying joy as we draw closer to the celebration of Christmas.
- Prayer and Reflection: After Mass, there will be a brief time of prayer and reflection, inviting us to deepen our sense of joy and gratitude for God’s blessings.
Let us come together on this Third Sunday of Advent to rejoice in the Lord, celebrate His promises, and prepare our hearts for the coming of our Savior. All are welcome to share in this uplifting and joyful celebration.
