Event: Feast of St. Stephen, the First Martyr
Date: December 26th
On December 26th, the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Stephen, the first martyr of Christianity and a model of faith, courage, and forgiveness. St. Stephen, one of the first deacons chosen to serve the early Christian community, bore witness to Christ through his bold proclamation of the Gospel, even in the face of persecution.
As the first to give his life for his faith, St. Stephen reminds us of the cost of discipleship and the call to remain steadfast in our commitment to Christ. His example of forgiving those who persecuted him, echoing Christ’s own words on the Cross, challenges us to live lives of mercy and love.
Event Highlights:
- Holy Mass: The liturgy will focus on St. Stephen’s unwavering faith and his role as a witness to Christ’s love and truth. The readings will include the account of his martyrdom in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 6:8–7:60). The homily will explore the themes of faith, forgiveness, and the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
- Reflection on Martyrdom: A brief reflection will highlight how St. Stephen’s sacrifice inspires us to live courageously for our faith, even in difficult times.
- Prayers for the Persecuted Church: Special prayers will be offered for Christians around the world who face persecution for their faith, asking for St. Stephen’s intercession and for the grace to endure trials with love and courage.
As we honor St. Stephen, the First Martyr, let us be inspired by his example to live as true witnesses to Christ, sharing His love and forgiveness in our own lives. All are welcome to join in this meaningful celebration.
