Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

February 2, 2025
00:00 - 23:59

On February 2nd, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas. This feast commemorates the moment when Mary and Joseph presented the infant Jesus in the Temple, fulfilling the Jewish law and revealing Him as the “light for revelation to the Gentiles” (Luke 2:32).

During this event, Simeon and Anna, two faithful servants of God, recognized Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah. Simeon’s prophetic words remind us that Christ is the true light who has come to dispel the darkness of sin and bring salvation to the world.

Event Highlights:

  • Blessing of Candles: Traditionally, this feast includes the blessing of candles, symbolizing Christ as the Light of the World. The faithful are invited to bring candles for blessing, which can be used in homes as a sign of Christ’s presence.
  • Holy Mass: The Gospel reading (Luke 2:22-40) will recount the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, with a homily reflecting on the significance of this event in our faith journey.
  • Procession of Light: A candlelit procession may take place, symbolizing the light of Christ shining in the world and in our lives.
  • Reflection on Consecrated Life: This feast is also a special day to pray for those in religious life, recognizing their commitment to serving God and His Church.

As we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, let us renew our commitment to following Christ, the Light of the World, and sharing His light with others. All are welcome to join this beautiful and meaningful celebration.
